That is normal with real MAC brushes...its good to cover the numbers with clear nail polish when it is new if you wish to preserve the numbers.

Fake ones most probably wear away too though.

Is this 217 real or fake? I just bought it off of ebay and i washed it for the first time. the handle is not bendable, it did not bleed and the hairs didn't shed. The two things that have me skeptical is the way the word france looks. I seen a picture of how it should look and how the counterfit looks and it looks how the counterfit did. Mines did come in a bag with a barcode on it as well, (it was a sticker barcode) I guess my camera is crappy but heres the best picture that I got. (the pictures are of the brush after I washed it, the bristles are still kind of wet)

I am a newb to MAC and makeup in general but i really want to get a couple brushes from ebay (can't justify the retail price with my very limited experience). i found a set of 4 short handled gold brushes (187SE, 168SE, 190SE, 194SE) on ebay from the seller cosmeticsale1234 but i have no idea whether they are authentic or not. i have asked for more pics, the seller has 100% feedback though...? but i am not even sure if MAC do gold handled brushes! i am totally clueless and would appreciate any help!
the listing is here: MAC 4 PCS BRUSH LOT SET 187SE, 168SE, 190SE, 194SE GOLD - eBay (item 220360188663 end time Mar-13-09 10:28:16 PDT)

TIA!!

Also I've been using the 239 and 217 fro two days and the silver lettering that has the MAC logo and the number has rubbed of allmost complitely, that's prolly because the lettering was just printed on the handl and not carved also. Just goes to show that the quality and the appearance of the genuine MAC brushes can also vary.

Thanks so much for this post! I was worried about a 217 brush I ordered on Ebay because it has Japan embossed on it and the MAC logo is started to rub off. Other than those two things, the brush works like a dream - no shedding or dye magically running out of the bristles.

Thanks again for this information because I was two seconds away from contact the seller on ebay. She said they were authentic, but I wanted to be sure.

Usually MAC logo rubs off on authentic brushes

I (and many people) usually put a layer of clear nail polish on it (usually a top coat or a fixator top coat) to prevent the logo to fade with use.
(uh i noticed that it's also been said above, sorry!)

Hey there,

I'm new to MAC and only getting into the high quality makeup industry recently. But I'm eager to learn and I'm afraid I already have to learn from the first mistake I made:

I bought a brush set on ebay! AN once I got it I wasn't as happy as I had expected to be when I held 10 brand new MAC brushes in my hands...

So, once I was suspicious my brushes might be FAKE, I started doing some research on the internet and I found YOU. I wish I had read this threat BEFORE I ordered the brushes. But the brushes looked very good on the ebay pictures AND the seller is a power seller who only sells Bobbi Brown and MAC brushes and has 600 positive ratings!

Anyway, I need your help. I'm not feeling to good about the set and don't have a MAC counter/store close where I could pop into and ask an actual MAC makeup artist.

I had problems putting the pictures of my brushes on specktra, so I set up a blog:

lisalovescapetown.blogspot.com

You can see pictures and some more details about the brushes on there.

Please check out the blog and tell me what you experts think: FAKE or AUTHENTIC???

I'm very curious if I was right.

Thanks so much already!!!

Love, Lisa

they look real to me. These were a Holiday Collection thus short handles.. the feedback on the seller seems fine and you really can't go wrong with $ 40 plus shipping for this type of set -- one 187SE would be about $40 anyway.. but be careful and do some more checking. Good luck!

Does it look real? fake?

Usually if it seems too good to be true, it is.
But I'm hoping in this case it isnt.

I have seen some of this seller's sale items.. some seem real, others not. I did read feedback and one of them was that the item was a fake. I did not buy from her because of this, and also she seems to sell seconds -- lesser quality or rejected merchandise.

It might be safer to do a CP request as HK hasn't launched yet in all markets but will do shortly. Some on eBay will certainly be genuine but there will be fakes too.

Note that fake HK brush sets are already available from Brush111.com
