A few interesting links about protests around the Olympic torch as it travels from one country to another.

Bummer. Only place in America the Olympic torch will pass is in San Francisco. Too bad, otherwise I'd be there with the protesters. The government of China is soooooo wrong on so many levels.

NOOOOO I'd give them all a good home...Might be a cramped home afterwards but still...

I hate cruelty to animals, I couldn't read the whole article either

I have two little kittens at home and, sounds stupid, they are mine and my bf's babies. I couldn't imagine abandoning them or even hurting anyone elses cat. They're very loving animals! To treat something like that which loved you so much is just unthinkable. Bloody bastards...

omg....i had tears in my eyes. being skinned alive. that's sick and horrible! why would anyone do that to another living being? it's PAIN!! OMG!! i'd love to pull a devil's advocate (the movie) on those mother fuckers doing this and see how they would feel being beat till almost dead and then skinned alive! i'm really upset, hence the swearing. fuck. that's the lowest of the lowest form of animal cruelty. the poor animal was still blinking even after the skinning! THAT made me cry and sick to my stomach...not to mention FUCKING UPSET!!!

nope, that's not my intention at all. i was just saying that people should probably be more careful about talking about things they don't know much about. i appologize if it sounded harsh.

i'm just so sick and tired to how some of the "free media" portraits china on the whole tibet issue. i agree with dalai lama that the tibetans need more autonomy, but some of the reports are just bs. the other day i was watching CBC news (i'm in canada), there's a footage of 2 policemen walking 2 people off the streets, the chinese subtitle says "2 police officers helping japanese tourists on the lahsa street", and the news anchor said "as seen in this footage, the chinese liberation army has been forcing tibetans off the streets". seriously, you cannot tell the difference between police and army/japanese and tibetans/forcing and casually walking?! and there are so many "unintensional" errors on the cnn website, it's sickening... maybe "free media" has the freedom to make up stories too

I used to live there and was so brainwashed how good China is. After living outside for a few years, I see how messed up China really is. I will not be returning anytime soon because of the human rights and animal rights issues. F*** China

At the risk of sounding controversial this is a necessary evil! I have been a professional cat breeder now for 5 years and in my experience there is no point bitching and moaning about unwanted pets and why they have to eventually be destroyed. The fact of the matter is if people desexed their pets there wouldnt be the numbers of unwanted, stray or ferral cats roaming. There simply wouldnt be overpopulation in such numbers if everyone desexed their bloody cats to begin with. I have seen hundreds of cats destroyed in animal shelters because they are diseased and/or have no home. I dont agree with inhumane killing of course, but culling is actually necessary at times. My only serious gripe is this - if China can exercise control over the number of children families are permitted then they SHOULD also control (or attempt to) the number of animals people own as well. Its a worldwide issue - overpopulation of any number of species and culling has been happening for years. We have done it here with brumbies, dingos and kangeroos as examples. As for Peta - well they have a way of dramatising certain issues and I have very little faith in their reports.
People can be very short sighted when it comes to these issues. Peoples OWN cats might have a few litters, BUT those kittens go on to have a few litters, adn then so do those litters and so on and so forth. The person who didnt desex the cat in their possession in the first instance is also indirectly responsible for the large number of homeless cats on the street in the second instance.
For this reason ALL of our pedigreed kittens are desexed before they even leave our care. More ownership of responsibility would help reduce the problems and the only ones who are responsible for necessary culling are the people who FAILED to own that responsibility to begin with - and yes culling is a messy and nasty business, but we only have ourselves to blame!! Again - I absolutely DO NOT advocate inhumane killing of animals but for the overall issue while it may well be bad press for China most probably, in reality they are really only cleaning up the problems other less responsible people have left behind......

That is wrong!! I can't believe that people are so ignorant to think that they will be better for killing thousands of defenseless cats. There is no reason for that. If they don't want them that bad then there are millions of things they could do other than killing them.

I will definitely not be watching the Olympics and I hope countries will boycott them. If anything Egypt probably will seeing as they believe cats are gods.

I might be allergic to cats but KILLING them in front of children or out of their view is still a very BAD, DISGUSTING thing to to! I started crying at the beginning of the article. Egypt should give them a piece a their mind! Lets see what they do for the stupid Olympics!

EDIT: Seeing that animal BLINK after being skined made me cry. How would the STUPID goverment feel if he/she was knocked , neck cracked and skined ALIVE? I can't type anymore my heart hurts too much...

I too will not be watching any Olympic coverage this year

This just hasn't suddenly started either, they've been killing cats and dogs like it's a sport in China for years now.

I will never understand, how these people have such disregard for life. I got an email recently about "asian fast food".. baby sharks, dog brains, shark fins.. I don't get it.. The whaling, now cat killing.. Why do these countries think this is OK?!

This is really sad and upsetting. I found a petition group on facebook and joined. Is their any petitions or anything anyone can do to help stop this??? Shame on them! I wont be watching the Olympics! This is just awful!

Thats absolutely horrible. I've been reduced to tears. I really can't stand the world we live in. There is too much of this sort of thing going on and no one seems to care. Or the ones who do are so few.
