As panda0410 wrote, the Chinese government are trying to deal with a problem brought about by irresponsible pet ownership. I am not condoning their treatment of the cats however, I think it would be too easy to jump on the bandwagon and condemn the Chinese government. I'm not a fan of theirs based on my own family history but I'm willing to look deeper and further.
I also think that panda0410 makes a good point about PETA and other animal welfare organisations who dramatise such issues, sometimes employing aggressive tactics to get their points across.
Yes, it's sad when an animal is killed, even if they're killed 'humanely'. However, I'm not going to boycott the Olympics. After the aggressive torch protests, I really think that the anti-China camp has gone too far. The Olympics are a triumph for all nations of the world and one could also argue that they are the pinnacle of sporting achievement. Therefore, they should be celebrated and enjoyed as a spectacle. Just because you happen to not like the country hosting them because you don't agree with the way that its government conducts its business, it doesn't mean that you can't support your country's athletes by cheering them on in their events. If you enjoy watching the Olympics or any sport, at the end of the day, you're the one missing out, IMHO.

(Disclaimer: not looking for a fight, I just have an opinion also.)
Don't you feel kind of ignorant saying you're not going to take notice to the video just because Heather Mills stars in it? She did the intro, that doesn't mean the whole video is a phoney. It's no secret that China has been ruthlessly killing dogs and cats, whether it be for the profit in the fur trade, or for this kind of sick purpose thats being discussed here (to weed down the population).
Just like dozens of other serious topics in our World, mainstream media will not report them. Private investors and government groups have way too much invested in suspicious, politically incorrect, disgusting behavior that the major media outlets will never report on them (Biased media is an everyday part of North America). That's why Peta and the Human Society are the only ones who report on these types of issues, because they are unbiased and no one around them benefits from the sickness happening to these animals.
I think what you posted about the Olympics is right, this really has nothing to do with the Olympics, I'm not against the Olympics. China has been ruthlessly slaughtering animals for years and they will continue to do so before, during and after the Olympics.
It's all cruel, it's all wrong and it's all painful to watch. What China does everyday is the same as what my country does to Seals in the North on a yearly basis, it's painful. And I think the only time something will happen to save them is when people stop turning blind eyes to this issue and look at what is directly in front of them. We can't save every dog and cat, but we can stop buying fur, stop eating animals, etc etc .
What peta shows you is extreme, and it's extreme because what is happening to these animals is extreme. We like to turn away from these videos and pretend it isn't happening - because that's the easy way out, but it's that kind of ignorance that makes the issues stay issues, and the answers stay hidden.
