few questions because i haven't found what i'm looking for in any fake mac guides, or i've somehow overlooked it...

on mac shadow boxes, do all of the stickers on the bottom with the barcode also have the manufacturing code? are any made without and just have a barcode with the barcode numbers?

so just having a barcode on the sticker and not having the manufacturing code doesn't necessarily make it fake?

Yup, thats right

Its the same with pigments as well - some of them have the manufacturing codes on the stickers, but others dont. It will also depend largely on where you bought it - when the CCOs take RTV stock they relabel, some of the relabels will have the manufacturing dates as well.

I just bought an eyeshadow from this lot. I hope to god it isn't a fake! I'm starting to get a bad feeling though...
I'm so glad the experts here provided comparison shots, examples, etc. Thanks to all you folks=)SUPER helpful!
*sigh* man, I hope it isn't fake. I really needed a mothbrown shadow for a gift this friday. I'm so screwed if it turns out it's a fake.

Hi ya'll,
So I looked at the original post, and from the outside my MAC e/s (from ebay) look real, however when I depotted one of them the pan was not flat underneath, it has an indented circle, does that mean it is fake? Everything else looks real, even the label but the colour pay off is not what I expected from swimming and humid.
anyone got any thoughts?
cheers
Liz

prettypaint ~ these are all fakes. There was never a blue e/s in the barbie line at all like I see the blue ones in this lot. The ONLY green one was Springtime Skipper - and its a lovely golden green, a little like Golden Olive pigment actually.... There was also no orange colour like the one above and the Barbie imprint on these is crappy beyond awful.... not consistent with authentic Barbie logo imprints. Sorry

sweets4 - indented pans = FAKE, no question about it.

I'm pretty new here so please forgive me if this has already been gone over a squillion times. Is the indented pan = FAKE, categorically, without a shadow of a doubt, always the case? The reason I ask is that I purchased a Surreal e/s in 2005 (batch code is A65) from a mac pro store (its been so long, I can't remember which one, as I travel around a lot). I don't de-pot and am only just getting to the bottom now and it has the indented pan ring in the middle. I'll be gutted to think I've been using a fake all these years if that turns out to be the case. Any help would be appreciated.

Yes. MAC responded to a member here with a written statement that they do NOT use indented pans in their manufacture of eyeshadows. Are you sure you bought it from MAC and not mixed up with a purchase made somewhere else?

Thanks for replying. If MAC have made a written statement with this info then, of course, that's correct. That's really worrying though. I have made purchases of MAC elsewhere (other than pro stores) but only Nordstrom and Harvey Nichols. Oh well, in the bin with what's left of the Surreal es

EVERYONE: DO NOT BUY FROM THIS SELLER

I've sent a PM requesting a refund. I know I didn't pay much, but I'm a student and can use the damn money on some REAL M.A.C.

unfortunately i've been the victim of fake MAC... i recently bought 3 lots of eyeshadows totalling about $135 US dollars and never even recvd them from the seller! i didn't know they were fake till I had already paid for them, and was waiting on them to arrive in the mail, to get my money back fast!
I paid the seller immediately thru PayPal and was not able to recoup any money, because the seller is no longer registered with Ebay and PayPal even though they have "Buyer Protection" they don't guarantee your money back. WTF!
So they basically wash their hands of You losing Your money.

That's not Protection at all, if you ask me. Be careful ladies!

Did you use a credit card to pay for the items, if you did you can contact them and they will get your money back and PP will have to eat the lost.

Hello, I am new to the forum and I do have a question as well. I have a Black tied eyeshadow that I bought around the same year from the MAC counter( nordstrom I think) batch A94. I haven't depotted the eyeshadow but was wondering if maybe this was old packaging they used a long time ago? When I took apart the pot it had the dreaded 15 on the back of it. Does this mean it is a fake?? I saw the letter from Mac posted on the forum but it really doesn't state that they have always used flat pans not indented ones. I know Mac does change their packaging slightly from time to time to throw off counterfeits (knock offs). Help ...I am confused

P.S. I am going to try to depot my shadow to see if it has the indented pans

I bought eyeshadows off ebay here in the UK, when depotted the back of the pan has an indented ring, I thought it was a bit wierd, but that same day, I then took the pots they came in along with others and used them at Back to Mac yesterday for my free lipsticks. After reflecting a bit on the indented ring, it made me look here and I see that they are fake.
I have sent an email saying I think they are fake and will be verifying instore. What are my rights, what can I do please?

Paypal wont automatically refund your money unless you can provide written evidence to verify these fakes. The letter must be from Mac or someone such as makeup artist who is expert in that field.
You can file for SNAD(significally not as described) ,BUT DO NOT escalate to claim, you have 10 days to get the written PROOF.Paypal will close dispute in sellers favour if you could not
get WRITTEN proof in time.
You have 45 days from the date of purchase to file the dispute!
Mac won't get involved as you have purchased these on ebay
nope.gif

Seller can also be reported to ebay, for non performance...
