I agree with most of what you said. The only thing I don't agree with is that if parents can't afford to send their children to college they shouldn't have kids. Tuition is the only thing that goes up every year without fail. At that rate, there would be no babies!
I understand that my viewpoint is influenced by my own personal experience. But I think parents should at least help their children get an education. I certainly agree that the cost of tuition is ridiculous! But if adults can't afford it, how is a teenager with no work experience going to pay for it? It's a shame that it's required by so many employers but so expensive. I also agree that if parents pay, it should not be taken advantage of. I was always so envious of students whose parents were paying for their expenses. I had my own place and worked full-time just to get by.

What's really bad is that a lot are bow expecting Masters degrees. I pretty much have to get my MSW :/ but I'm so tired of college as it is.

You are so right. I feel like I need to get my Master's now, too, if I want a decent job. Sometimes I think it's all a scam. I'm a big fan of education, but employers keep wanting more and more. Is MSW the Masters in Social Work?

The same advice that I give for buying make up also goes for "buying" an education, in particular at the graduate level. If you are not absolutely in love with your chosen discipline, don't go for it. In comparison to undergrad education, at the masters level, there is much less funding available, thus you are likely to graduate with debts that will accompany you for years. I see a lot of students jump onto the grad school wagon without putting much thought into it, especially those master programs that are not considered a terminal degree (in that case, you will have to get a Ph.D. if you want to get a job). For most students, I recommend to work for a year or two and then decide on grad school.

And once you have a MA, you'll feel like you need a Ph.D. Believe me, it's endless. I was lucky enough to get funding in graduate school (and teach) and come out with no debt (and was hired right away at the University I am still teaching at). That was 10 years ago now though, and things have definitely changed with funding and budget cuts. Mac-Guy makes some very good points about graduate school. Unfortunately, it is true that an MA is a lot more standard for many jobs nowadays.

And grad school is MUCH harder than undergrad. I started working on a Master's in Sociology while working full time at a law firm. There was so much reading assigned every week that I couldn't get it done. And as you said, a Master's Soc degree won't get you many jobs, so I knew I'd need to get my PhD. I ended up quitting because I was already making more money than I probably would get with a PhD. That was in 1999, though. Now I think that in some fields a Masters does give you an advantage.

For me it's not so much the career. I really want to be a social worker, I've always wanted to help people. But with a BSW there are a very limited amount of jobs available which is why it's stressed pretty heavily for us to get our MSWs. I do plan on working for a couple of years if I can though.

Also, I've only taken one class in my major so my attitude toward college may change once I get more into the major. At least I hope! :)

Debbs and jchait are you ladies hitting Aventura Mall on release day? Let me know I've taken a later shift so I can be there. I was thinking SoBe Pro. Let me know!
I'm completely ready to pass on Goddess of the Sea if its a luster. It would have to be one hell of a pigmented Luster to sway me.
Yes we most certainly are! You are more than welcome to come with us! We went to Estero last week and the car ride was so easy we had such a fun time!

Totally agree on both statements. The MA and Ph.D. go hand in hand.

And generally speaking, the MA is the new BA. Everybody is expected to have one to move up the career ladder.

I totally understand. I have a couple of friends who were in the same position as you are.

Very true, though I enjoyed grad school more than undergrad as it is more focused. Undergrad is about breath, grad school is more about depth.

I just moved on Saturday to Fort Lauderdale and this is my second transfer in a little over a year! NY to St. Augustine to Fort Lauderdale. Glad to see so many MAC addicts live near me now! How's the CCO at Sawgrass?
Cool! Welcome to South FL ! I've never been to the CCO at Sawgrass, maybe some of the other ladies have been....

I'm glad I don't want anything from Maleficent either because this is going to be an expensive haul for me.

My guess is due to special packaging...

LS = $17.50
LG = $16.50
EDES = $21.50
EDB = $27.50
EDSF = $33.00
Bronzer = $25.00 - $30.00 (depending on the formula)

If my guess is right, then I need to set aside $349.50... $412.00 + 7% tax for this.

Edited: It's more expensive that I expected. I guess I won't be getting the brushes...
