MAC and Iris Aphel Discussion

After looking at the lipstick swatches, I'm still kinda confused.
Originally, I thought I wanted Pink Pigeon, Scarlet Ibis, and Party Parrot.
Now, I'm trying to very firmly tell myself that I don't want or need Pink Pigeon, because I already have Candy Yum-Yum and Show Orchid.
I'm wondering if Scarlet Ibis is too much like Lady Danger to go for.
Party Parrot is hanging in there, but I wonder if it's essentially a matte version of Impassioned or Fusion Pink.
As for eyeshadows, Diamond Dove looks good, but it looks an awful lot like UD Shakedown, which I already own.
Howzat looks like a contender, though.
It hurts to say this, but I think I've just got too danged much makeup!

The thing we need to remember about MAC mattes, and mattes in general, is often times they don't swatch as nicely as they look when actually applied. I've seen this for myself and heard it mentioned MANY times by MUA's, reviews, tutorials, etc. So, I wouldn't give up on a matte shade just because it doesn't swatch well. Once you get those brushes in them and actually start building a look on your eye with primer / base, I'm sure more people will be pleased with these shadows than originally expected. A beautiful matte shadow is difficult to dismiss, as it has a TOTALLY different look than shimmers, satins, etc. VERY sophisticated and polished. I bought all 3 mattes from this collection, and I will give you an update as soon as I put a look together with them.
I agree. Totally. I didn't have a chance to get them on my eye with a brush and all and if I wasn't tempted by the MES I would've bought at least two to try with the brushes. I agree that mattes look refined and are just sometimes a nice balance. Esp RE. But sadly I was in a hurry and the SAs probably figured I would like to be left alone to swatch away so I had no chance to try these.

It was so funny. He felt sorry for me I think so he let me in early because I froze, then the SA got out tissues and wipes and said go ahead and play and let us know if you need anything and they just disappeared:) I felt so.....weird:)

That's my issue too. I've skipped quite a few collections this year which would have been unheard of when I first got into MAC, but now I'm looking through my stash and figuring out dupes.

I think the textures and finishes of the lipsticks and eyeshadows were the selling point for me for this collection, I could probably find similar colours with glossy or satin finishes instead of mattes.

I've done quite a bit of collection-skipping this year, too, though you'd never know it to look at my makeup organizers.
I "justified" more than a few purchases by going on a "matte kick" with eyeshadows; my reasoning was, "I do have a color that's a lot like that, but not in a matte formula."
Lipstick texture is not that much of an issue, since I put gloss over all of them, anyhow.
As for collection-skipping, I skipped Miss Piggy, and Gareth Pugh, am skipping Metal-X (I can't abide cream eyeshadows), and will most likely skip Naturally.
Unfortunately, Daphne Guiness and Iris Apfel will probably make up for it!
And, if MAC should release a big collection of pigments (which they haven't done in a while), Heaven help me!

I'm thinking of picking up Flamingo for sure. Pink Pigeon I'm on the fence with as I already have Something New and a bright-fuschia MUFE Aqua cream. Party Parrot looks a lot like Fusion Pink so I'm skipping that one for sure.

Definitely want the teal and coral matte eyeshadows. The brown one and the silver one I can pass as I have Handwritten and Copperplate Matte2 shadows.

Since Allura posted photos I attempted to compare Party Parrot with Fusion Pink and Pink Pigeon with Show Orchid and well they look the same. My wallet is hollering with excitement but I'm a little bummed if this is the case.

That is TOOOOOO funny, because I've been doing the SAME THING with matte shades this year! I got so used to the staple shimmery eye, that all of a sudden the shift in formula started calling to me! I definitely made a lot of "dupable" purchases based on this alone! Guess when you are trying to convinvce yourself you aren't just hoarding makeup, you can find all sorts of reasons to tell yourself you "need" something! HeeHee I DID get all 3 matte shadows from this collection... Just to drive the point home!

Thanks for the swatches, Ernie!!! I love all the lipsticks in this collection. I'm still getting the four LE's: Party Parrot, Scarlet Ibis, Pink Pigeon and of course Flamingo. I'm skipping the shadows. Need to save money for the S3/C3 collection, Chen Man and MAC so Reel/Reel Sexy collections and who knows what other collections I'll be going insane about later in 2012.

Matte is so fashionable right now that it certainly warrants a purchase. And it's easier to make a matte shade more shiny or glittery if you desire to do so; but the other way round, it would not work. Yeah for all the new mattes that are coming out!

Sounds like this collection will sell out FAST.
Sigh.

Thanks for the swatches Ernie! I'll definitely try to get Flamingo and Robins egg. Party parrot looks gorgeous but bright colours are too much work and they make my lips look weird ><"

I went to Pro this morning to get my hands on this collection and I guess I was too early as they didn't even have the displayers on the floor when i got there. I only walked away with 1 lipstick, lip liner and an eyeshadow. The minute I was Pink Pigeon I KNEW I was getting this. Do I have other colors that are similar? Yes! Did that stop me? NO!!!!! I've justified the purchase based on the finish of the lipstick. It has to be one of the smoothest matte lipsticks I've ever encountered. I picked up Embrace Me l/l because I wanted it when I saw it with the Tour De Fabulous collection. Unfortunately for me when I saw it then it was sold out. So I wasn't going to miss an opportunity to snag this. It also happens to be a perfect match for Pink Pigeon. Lastly I grabbed Early Bird e/s. Yes its similar to Free To Be. However I find EB to be warmer. Its enough of a difference for me to justify having both, I have to admit I was disappointed with the tester for Robin's Egg. It didn't swatch well at all. I think I'm still going to end up with this color and an additional lippie tomorrow. I love the color of Robin's Egg and since I've seen other people's swatches I'm going to chalk it up to the tester just not being good. If you are a fan of bright colored lipsticks ( and I am) you will love the selection and the texture of the ones offered in this collection. I have a feeling I may end up with at least 3 when all is said and done.
