Re: Heatherette for MAC Discussion
I have to disagree with you guys that dislike this collection.
Lipsticks
The lipsticks are gorgeous. There's no real 'theme' to the lips in this collection, and what I mean by that is that there is a nice range of color and texture, most of which will compliment anyone. Lollipop Loving is a nice neutral coral with a subtle but noticeable enough green pearl. It's a glaze so it gives a gentle tint to the lips of coral and shimmer to the lip. Fleshpot is an awesome nude, comparable to Myth in color as well as finish. I would say Fleshpot is a little more light golden beige, whereas Myth is more of a peachy beige. It is a satin, so a little will go a long way. Using a brush it can give a soft nude lip by using just a bit, or applying directly will completely phase out the lips on fairer skins. I would definitely use a gloss with it though since it is a tad dry, being a satin and all. What's great about Fleshpot as well, is it's so light that almost any liner can work with it. Hollywood Nights is an awesome bright fuschia pink. It reminds me of Rocking Chick and Show Orchid, but it's somehow different. It doesn't have a pearl or anything, and it's a more or less flat fuschia satin. It's great for a 'look at me' type of lip, and also should be used with a gloss since it is a bit drying. Sheering it out with Strobe Blossom lip conditioner is beautiful too. And finally there is Melrose Mood, my personal favorite of the Heatherette lipsticks. The color is a beautiful light bubblegum pink, and is an Amplified Creme, my favorite type of finish. Amplifieds are so glossy and comfortable on their own. This color is gorgeous with or without a gloss or liner.
Lipglass
Bonus Beat is a nice pearly golden. Gives a warm shine to any lipstick. Sock Hop is a very pretty creamy coral. Not my favorite of the bunch, but it looks wonderful with Lollipop Loving, and over Fleshpot. Style Minx is gorgeous. Alone it gives this beautiful fuschia tint to the lips and over Hollywood Nights, it is to die for. I'm not usually into strong lips, but Style Minx is a very wearable hot pink lipglass. Starlet Kiss is of course, my favorite. It's this pretty baby pink with a subtle metallic frost to it. So pretty over Melrose Mood. My friend said it was comparable to Fafi's Sugar Trance, but I swatched them and Starlet Kiss has a slightly more mauve undertone to it I'd say, as well as a subtle frost as opposed to Sugar's shimmery pearl.
Eyeshadows
I really love the trios! I got both. Trio 1 has Hoppin', Moodring, and Cloudburst. Hoppin' is a creamy frosted peach (frost) (fantastic of highlighting) and Moodring is a shimmery mint (veluxe pearl). Both are new. Cloudburst is also repromoted, originally being from Blue Storm (fall 2007), which is black with blue and green sparkles (velvet). All three colors are pigmented and beautiful, and come in a metallic pink compact with mirror. Only thing missing is a brush, which doesn't affect me since I have SOO many. I am really excited to use these colors and do FOTDs with it. I tried Moodring over Otherworldy Paint Pot (from McQueen, summer 2007) and it is beautiful! It makes a gorgeous creamy mint.
Trio 2 consists of three new colors, Baby Petals, a pastel pink frost, V.I.P., a metallic frosty pink with silver pearl (velvet), and Cassette, a deep eggplant with bluey-purple pearl (veluxe pearl). V.I.P. looks like Pink Venus at first glance, but I found out that it's a much prettier and better pigmented color. And I am very fond of Cassette. It makes me think of if Contrast (a color I dislike) and Fertile (a color I love from Strange Hybrid, spring 2007) had a lovechild. It's beautiful. I really want to try it over Nice Vice paint pot, but alas that product is sold out everywhere. Three awesome colors though. What I was really hoping for though was a brighter pink more along the lines of the packaging. A metallic hot hot pink. Like a Veluxe Pearl version of Passionate or something. Oh well though!
I love how the trios are easier to work with than almost a quad. Three is easy to use. One highlight, one lid, and one crease color. It's very customer friendly, and I love how there's a mirror included. Much prefered over Fafi. Fafi had weird textures, surprisingly subtle pigmentation, and awkward packaging. These Heatherette trios are winners in my book.
Eye Pencils
I haven't used the pencils yet, but I'm definitely going to try them all out tomorrow. They seem really nice. I briefly tested them before, but I haven't had time to really work with them so I'm still iffy on them. The Black Funk and Pop Blue are soooo gorgeous though!
Glitters
I love the reflects glitters. Reflects Gold is a beautiful transluscent microglitter that when hit with light reflects a golden sparkle. I actually got this product in the Warm Pigments and Glitter set this past holiday season (Antiquitease: Curiousitease, Winter 2007) and it is great under the eyes to reflect light as well as mixed with clear lipglass. The other glitter in this collection is 3D Silver a chunky silver with rainbow reflect. I'm really glad they included this one. The chunkyness is so like... I don't know. Club-Kid like. I wouldn't say that it's wearable for everyday, but it's so unique and cool. I wish though, that Reflects Coral and Crystalled Pink were included. They would have totally gone with the hot pink packaging.
Pigment
Jardin Aires, a repromote from Strange Hybrid, and Pink Pearl. I think that if they wanted a light cream color, they could have chosen something better than Jardin Aires. It is a light cream with silvery glitter, but I think that Vanilla, or Your Ladyship should have been repromoted, from Antiquitease (Winter 2007), which is much prettier... I dunno. Pink Pearl is a new pigment, and is a frosty medium pink with blue intense blue pearl. It goes on very sheer at first, but can be packed to add more intensity. I think I'm going to experiment with it and layer a little over blush. I think it'd give a nice highlight if a light hand is used.
Nail Lacquer
I'm not a fan of either color really. But I'm sure there are lots of people that it is suited for. Both are very pretty but they are not my personal style.
Beauty Powder
I love these! First off, the packaging is beautiful. I love how it's a glossy cream Pepto-Bismol pink color! We have Alpha Girl, a peachy pink with a slight pearl finish. Very natural. Smooth Harmony is beautiful too. On me it gives more of a sunkissed cheek. Both are gorgeous with a bit of Mineralize Skinfinish layered over for a highlight. I would have loved to have seen more Beauty Powders like the Barbie Loves MAC (Spring 2007) ones with the intense pearl finish, but it's lovely to get back to the more natural finished powders like Raquel and Catherine had in their Icon Collections (2007, and 2006 respectively). I would have liked to see a darker one though because I'm not sure how they'd work on deeper skintones.
And finally, the Lashes, She's Good, and She's Bad. I haven't seen them on anyone yet, but I am very interested to see how they look on. I'm sort of afraid of them because I'm a big fan of matte lashes, and usually dislike the vinyl plastic finish. But these could turn out interesting.
Just my two cents on the entire collection! It sorta turned into a rant, but I hope everyone loves my input. =P Hopefully I've inspired some to go look at the collection or at least take a second peak!
