Re: Naughty Nauticals Discussion
I attended the unveiling of Naughty Nauticals yesterday, here are my 2 cents...
Pigments:
Munity - It's as beautiful as everyone says, I picked one up.
Lovely Lily - I didn't plan on getting this as I thought I could find a cheaper alternative, but it's just so pretty in person! Beautiful light lilac with a gorgeous sheen to it.
Lark About - A sheer white with opalescent reflections of blue and purple. Pretty, but I have seen similar products before. Also, I found the texture to be quite gritty... so much so that I don't know how comfortable it would be to put on the eye!
Bell Bottom Blue - This shade is nice but it isn't one in a million. Wasn't a must-have for me.
Eyeshadows:
Meet the Fleet - I planned on getting this mainly because I fell in love with the Munity/Meet the Fleet eye combo. When I swatched it in-store, I was disappointed! It didn't come off as "blue/black" as I thought it would although it is pretty dark. Also, I was looking forward to the purple undertones I saw in
swatches but I just didn't see any. I may go back for this still...
Pandamonium - I didn't pay any attention to this because it wasn't on my wishlist. I did swatch it though and it seemed like a nice "gunmetal."
Submarine - Also didn't pay much attention to this as I had heard it was a Freshwater dupe, which I just got in my A-Mei pallete.
Illegal Cargo - I had planned on getting this early on but when I saw it in person I was disappointed as well. I was hoping for a "prettier" lilac colour but it's more of a dirty neutral. I picked up Lovely Lily instead of this. I have to say that I find most swatches and product photos of this eyeshadow misleading. Thumbs up to Krasevayadancer whose pictures of Illegal Cargo are the most true-to-life that I've seen.
Shore Leave - A pretty cream colour. If I had unlimited funds I'd have got this for sure!
Lustreglasses:
Ensign - A pretty coral pink. I haven't seen this comparison yet but I find Ensign to be very similar to Prrr lipglass. The colours are similar, Prrr is more on the peach side while Ensign is more pink, and the finish is exactly the same! I think Ensign, Love Knot and Bateaux are secretly lipglasses in lustreglass packaging.
Bateaux - Honestly I didn't even look twice at this, it's just too golden metallicy for my liking.
Hey, Sailor - This only mildly interested me at first but I decided not to want it because I had already planned on getting 4 lip products from this collection. Upon seeing it in person I now want it! It's a light plum pink and has the original lustreglass formula - sheer colour with white shimmer, not pearl like the others.
Love Knot - Looks bright pink in the tube but it's actually pretty sheer. The blue duochrome is very dominant, but comes off differently in different light. Makes your lips super shiny!
Lipsticks:
Party Mate - MAC describes this well as a sheer midtone pink. It's much lighter than in MAC's promo photos though, the pictures in the swatch thread are more accurate. I didn't want this going in, but again if I had unlimited funds I'd buy it. Party Mate, Buoy-O-Buoy and Ahoy, There! are all sheer colours.
Ahoy, There! - This was one of the first things on my wish list. Yesterday I went to the store, swiped the lipstick on my hand and that was it. Mine. When I went home and put it on... I could hardly see it on my pigmented lips! Big disappointment but I'm still keeping it because it's so pretty. (I have a thing for light pink). Anyways, it's a sheer light bubblegum pink with gold microglitter. I suggest you try before you buy!
Buoy-O-Buoy - I didn't swatch this but I imagine it's a nice sheer neutral lip colour. Nothing original here.
Port Red - In a word, gorgeous! It's a frosty red with metallic elements to it. Not over the top, just gives it a wow factor. Almost every MAC artist was wearing it at the party. Looks good on both pale and tanned skin. Very Jessica Rabbit!
Nail Lacquers:
Shirelle - This is a permanent colour so there's not much point in a review. I do want it one day, though! Looks like the perfect red.
Naughty Nautical - A frosty royal blue. Pretty but I've seen almost identical colours from Wet 'n' Wild, New York Color, etc.
All in all I was very happy with this collection! $126 poorer I got Munity & Lovely Lily pigments, Ensign & Love Knot lustreglasses, and Ahoy, There! & Port Red lipsticks.
