Meep! My solar bits came in today as well. Thoughts on these (echoing a lot of what elegant one said as well)

1. Pots are small, much smaller than pigment containers. The pot is a little smaller in diameter than my Bare Minerals MM container and about 2/3 the height of it. It isn't full to the top, but consider that I got mine from ebay, so I don't know if thats normal. I'm assuming the pigment clusters are much denser than normal pigments. It just looks like "a lot less" though, so people won't get some sort of sticker shock when they get these.

2. Instructions say to "shake container gently to form clusters and apply to eyes and cheeks". Mine were unboxed, so no ingredients list unfortunately.

3 Messy doesn't begin to describe this product. Gorgeous in the container, but when I tried to apply with a dry brush, it wouldn't cling to my eye lid or smooth out like regular pigments initially. Fallout hell! So I said the hell with this, and grabbed my DuWop Payoff and dampened my brush with it. Applied like a dream after that and much less fallout.

4. The look is off the hook gorgeous and glittery. Who ever said Dazzleglass for eyes was right on the mark at least applied wet. I can't imagine working with them dry, as elegant one said. I have Black Ore on right now and it's so pretty. The gold is very apparent and would be great for a dramatic night time smokey eye look. I'm thinking it's like a combo of pigment, reflects gold glitter and clumpy stuff to bind them. It's pigments on 'roids. Hmmm how many other metaphors can I trot out to describe these?

How well this will wear and how much fallout will occur, I'll update later again, if elegant one doesn't do so first. I'm torn. I'm glad I picked these up, but I don't think these will be an easy morning eye, it'll require a little bit of work and be a bit too messy for some. I strongly suggest seeing these in person and playing with them, before ordering, as I don't think these are going to be for everybody. On the other hand, these are the sex, as far as eye shadows go.

The Black Ore is more of a dark charcoal grey with gold reflects. I'll try to get my camera set up and get swatches of all of them by tomorrow evening. All four of them are so pretty in the pot, but I haven't even swatched the rest of them yet.

i was excited for this 3 part collection, but i've been thinking and i have so many neutrals/browns and i don't think i need more. i barely use what i have so it's just gonna be a waste of money. i think i'm gonna pass on the solar bits too...hopefully i can get samples of them. if i wasn't so broke i'd go crazy with this collection, but i am so i have to spend wisely. i'm probably just going to get a lipstick, a lipglass, a bronzer, a blush and maybe an eye shadow

Thanks SMMY for your review! I am so torn with these. They sound so beautiful with the obvious shimmer, and that is totally up my alley, but I am worried that they will be alot of work. I am axious to hear how they hold up for you and look forward to your swatches.

Elegant-one, can I ask, were your swatches done wet or dry?

For those of you who plan to get some of these, which colors are you planning to pick up? How do you plan to wear them?

Honestly, I was considering getting Scatterrays and Sunpower. Yes, I am a bit concerned about the nuclear fallout but NOTHING is worse than Midnight Cowboy Rides Again (Urban Decay) which falls out no matter what primer is used. "Dazzleglass for eyes" is like a giant lure in front of me.

I really like bronze. its like the perfect brown to me. I dont think you can go wrong with it..

Really, the only one I want is the black one, and black fallout is worse than any other! I will still check them out, of course, but I doubt I will get any of them. I REALLY hope that people will sample them out like they do pigments. I would definately buy them that way. Please report back if you use them again, and let us know how it goes. It really is beautiful with all of the gold shimmer, but I wonder if it is worth the hassle? Thanks again for sharing!

Audrey, I am not a pigment buyer...its way too much product for me to ever use in my lifetime. If I ever want pigments I go with samples, seeing as how these are similar to pigments, I know I won't be buying any either. I did contact Cheryl however, and asked her if she'd be sampling these. I think she may if more people ask about it. Try and pm her and see if she's still interested. I definetly want a sample of these...

FYI: When I said the pots are smaller, I mean much smaller and less full than pigment jars. My jar looks like it's about half full. As dense and limited as the quantity is in my container (if it's accurate), I don't see anybody trying to sample these out.
ssad.gif

Audrey - I do think these are definitely "special occasion" eye shadows. The closest analogy as I said above is pigment + glitter reflects + binder/gummy stuff. They do feel almost moist when you touch them. I know erine said these weren't cream based, but I'm betting there is some sort of 'cones in these to make them stick together. I have LM metallic creme eye shadows and these kind of remind me of these, only in a more powdery form. I'm dying to get my hands on the ingredient list for these, just as a chemist.

*hyperventilating* Oh no!

Looks like I won't be getting me hands on any of these then. I just can't. i don't believe in buying pigments. i don't even make a dent in my samples.

These will have to be absolutely orgasmic for me to consider buying one.

Re: Neo Sci-fi, Solar Field, And Future Earth

Sorry to monopolize the thread, but finally just opened all of the solar bits and OMG merciful father! Scatterrays is beyond beautiful. Pale gold with a copper/apricot shimmer in the pot. I haven't even swatched it, just want to stare at it in the pot. This is the pick of the litter for me. It's so luminous.

But your descriptions have already sold me on Solar bits. I am a little bummed about the size.

My MA raved about these, indicating that these piggies create a super "wet look" on the eyes.

We'll see! I'm always trying to create a black/gold "panda eye" look so maybe this is the product of my dreams...or nightmares!

Re: Neo Sci-fi, Solar Field, And Future Earth

Thanks so much elegant-one and SMMY! I'm really torn now, at less than half the product and about the same price as pigments I don't think I'll be buying all of these anymore. I'm a little upset with the reviews as well but I'm willing to hold off judgment until I see them. I felt the same way about Dazzleglass. Actually I didn't even want them to begin with like I do with these and then I ended up with 3. LOL

In a way this is good though because I really need to save money for Cool Heat. I'll probably still end up with 1 or 2 'cause the look they give sounds divine, hard to work with or not, but that at least saves me 40 bucks so I'm okay with that!! Yay!

Elegant-one, can I ask, were your swatches done wet or dry?

Only the liner swatch was done wet - (the straight line above the large swatch), The others were done dry. It does really adhere to the Paint Pots

BTW - I woke up with random sparkles all over my face
smiles.gif
Thats after washing & moisturizing before I went to bed..geesh If that conveys how much sparkle is in these.

Re: Neo Sci-fi, Solar Field, And Future Earth

My SB container did not look full either like SMMY said, more like 3/4. I'm quite relieved that SMMY mentioned that, being Ebay, I thought maybe the seller had helped herself to some
smiles.gif

SMMY - I want to know of the glitter is as plentiful or prominent in the other lighter colors as it is in Black Ore?

I think I would have been a little more sold on it as a new product if it just would've had a little less glitter compared to the color. I called it Dazzleglass for the eyes, but the glitter/reflects in DG is more enhancing than it is prominent like it is in the SB. Hope that makes sense.
