i find it really depends who is giving the makeup advice or makeover! i agree with liba that it's all about finding the right makeup artist or stylist! the last few 'official' makeovers i had done at mac have been less than ideal (like being colour-matched 2000 shades darker than i really am, or being told certain colours 'won't show up'), but when i go in and chat with one of the assistants i have a good rapport with and they try stuff on me and/or make suggestions, the results are always great! i think the problem is that when i go in for the makeover, they assign me a guest makeup artist, usually not one of the stores' regular staff.
have fun with your resolution - i've always wanted to have my makeup done including lashes....particularly some really far-out ones...
I know that when my store has events, I can always sign up for a particular person. The only thing is, sometimes it's hard to get a specific time if you also want a specific person, since it's pretty tricky to stay completely on schedule at these hectic things. However, if you can always get your makeup done anytime, it doesn't have to be an event - if you're willing to spend $50 on products (not that hard to do, let's be honest
)
What I like to do is to request different MAs every time, just to be friendly and get to know everyone - most of the people at the store I go to are really talented… it's Los Angeles, so there are tons of people with high standards at all the MAC stores who also work professionally in the media industries we have. It's always such a shame when I hear about MAC artists acting snobby or not doing a good job on the people they're helping…I guess I'm spoiled here.
Well, if any Specktrettes are in L.A. and want the hookup on artists I know, just PM me and I'll give you some names and contact info.
