All I have to say is, it's not about making it wearable or making it work for you, this is intensely black and glittery, you can't make it an everyday look. Even just the MES applied over black liner WILL make a statement.

But there is a difference, you can ROCK it everyday and anytime if you wish. It's the confidence. You can be edgy, glam, and cool, not just at a night club, who cares if someone is looking at you weird if you're walking around with these MES smudged all over your eyes? That's what I plan on wearing, and people can go to hell if they're giving me funny looks because I know I'll be looking different and absolutely fabulous.

It's about HOW you wear it, not about making it wearable or everyday. It's about wearing it with confidence for what it's intended to be, DRAMATIC and over the top, in your face.

I seriously CANNOT wait for this.

Well said! I think it's a very wearable collection- even if you don't want black lipstick, the black glosses will be probably sheer enough to get away with a little edge
smiles.gif

However, to be honest, as wearable as it could be, I am sure I'll probably not wear it very often-- due to the simple fact that I have so much damn makeup, I have hardly touched 90% of it!!
lol.gif
So to say that I would wear it a lot may not be entirely accurate.

Damn! This was like a slap in the face for me! I had to pick my jaw up from off the floor after seeing the swatches of the MES when foiled! LOL!!!

I literally did not have any lemmings for this collection at all! But after seeing the new swatches and reading all the reviews, I am SOLD!!!! I think I want every single item from this collection! And I don't even CARE for MES! Seriously!!! That greasepaint stick is gonna be freaking awesome too!

I'm excited to get more of the VAEs. I bought 6 jars when it was last released. I'm at the end of my last jar. So this will be a good time to restock! I love the VAEs for exfoliating my face, body, feet/hands prior to mani/pedicures. Makes everything soft and smooth! Also excited to try this new Volcanic Thermal Mask!!

Style Black release date needs to hurry itself up now!!!!

My initial thoughts (copy pasted from my blog)

These are everything I wanted the NARS night series range to be!

These shadows look pretty chunky in the pan but they're buttery smooth to the touch. When I swatched them on my skin I'll be honest and say I didn't get a heap of colour payoff from the black, but tonnes of the coloured shimmer. But I think over a sticky base like UDPP, TFSI, MAC paintpots etc on my eye it will be a different story. I will report back once I've used them properly! You can see how much product was on my fingers after I swatched them dry- a heap.

styleblack9.jpg

Used wet is where these shadows really shine. I used fix+ and they are smooth, creamy and oh so pigmented I almost squealed with excitement! I think the swatches say it all really! I think that used wet, these will all make amazing liners.

I think Cinderfella is probably the least pigmented from the lot, and Gilt by Association sometimes can lose that black base compared to the others since it's so heavily loaded with shimmer. Not a bad thing, just an observation.

So I'm impressed! I'm glad MAC decided to make these all singles and not split the pans like they usually do with mineralize eye shadows.

Swatches- dry with no base. In real life it didn't look quite this chalky.

Swatches- foiled with MAC fix+ (wooooow!)

sorry for the blurry shot but it picks up the shimmer really well

sorry for the long post!

will have a look at the lip stuff later.

Thanks, can't wait to see pics of the lip stuff!

Nobody could keep their hands off of this collection at Update.

Black Knight - Since this is a Cremesheen, it's sheer. Women with a deeper complexion or lip color I'm sure can pull this off, and blotting it for a more matte-stain type of effect I'm sure will look lovely. However, I tried this on a beautiful medium tone (NC40ish) asian girl, and it looked SO uneven and strange. It's really hard to make this work, and since the Glimmerglasses are so sheer they didn't really help. It looked blotchy and faded and uneven. I'm not sure how I feel about this lipstick. Applying, blotting, then applying again will probably make a more uniform and smooth black look. The creamy sheer formula is hard to make work because black lips that are uneven is NOT cute, you just look like a poser with a CVS black lipstick. :/

Midnight Media - This one is awesome. It is so smooth and applies so opaque and velvety. I applied this one when the Black Knight didn't want to apply evenly, and this is so charming and pretty. We decided to make it matte matte matte, and caked the Cinderfella over it for a shiny but matte black lip. Reminded me of Lady Gaga, she looked so cute!
Night Violet - A perfectly wearable deep berry red. Velvety smooth texture and a perfect shade for the woman that wants the deep vampy lip but doesn't want to be *as* shocking as the black lipped diva the runways are suggesting.

Bling Black - Sheer sheer sheer black/grey with gold shimmer effects. It has a texture similar to Lipglass, the thicker consistency. I also like how the base color is a neutral grey, not particularly too warm or cool. It doesn't look obviously blue like some blacks tend to. The gold is a nice way to deepen lip colors without making it too goth looking and add a fun shimmer.
Blackfire - Again, extremely sheer. The fuchsia shimmers are fun and feminine and again take away the goth feel of dark lips.
Blackware - A nice compliment to the black lipsticks, it helps them look more opaque, even and of course, black. It has a little more opacity it seems than the other two, and doesn't have too much blue in it. Nice neutral grey. However, I'd be afraid to wear this over the Cremesheen because I can see the two separating on the lips since they're both so sheer.

Mineralize Eye Shadows - Oh. My. Lord. These are so cool. While they are GlitterBombs which I'm sure will drive some people crazy/drive them away, I am all for shiny glittering shimmering eyes. One of my trainers was wearing Cinderfella over Black Russian Pearlglide and the combo was perfection. The most glittering sparkling EYESAFE lids ever. These are so eyecatching and beautiful, the perfect fall/winter dinner and clubbing eye in one. Cinderfella is black with silver veining and silver glitter chunks, so perfect and while having medium coverage it builds like a dream and is full coverage when used wet. Young Pink has a black base with fuchsia sparkle particles and purplish veining, gorgeous gorgeous. Gilt By Association is black with gold veining and sparklies, while Blue Flame is black with bright blue veining and pearlized pigments. These are SO awesome. Not for the feint of heart. I am IN LOVE WITH THEM AND I NEED THEM. They aren't like the blacks in the Mineralize Eye Shadow quads from Colour Craft, or Red She Said. They are more like the ones from Flashtronic. Because they have the micropearlized pigment/glittery finishes, they DO take a bit of effort to apply without fall out, so try using fix+, or tapping your brush. You know me, I'm the King of Black. I love them, need them ALL.

Greasepaint Stick - This is really nice. It's in a stick like a Shadestick. The texture feels similar enough, it glides on with a medium-full coverage and builds really well with a slightly satiny finish. It also feels wet enough where a shadow could build upon it nicely. However it dries in like a minute, and dries to a water resistant finish. And guess what? It really is resistant. I put it on my hand and smudged it with my finger and it was basically had so much glide it smudged like a kohl. But then I put another dot and waited a few minutes. I rubbed it. Didn't move. RUBBED IT HARD, didn't even smudge at all. I hit it with a wipe and I actually had to scrub it. IT IS FREAKING AWESOME. I want to wear it and see how long it wears on the eyes, but it is really awesome. And ya know whats cool? Do you wanna use it as an eyeliner? Pull on the backend (like where it would be colored if it was a Shadestick) and there's a sharpener in there so you can get it nice and pointy to line the eyes. Freakin' perfect. Awesome. Yes.

Volcanic Ash - I love the exfoliator from last year. It makes my skin feel ultra smooth and refreshed, and guess whaaaaaaaaat, it's in a Microfine Refinisher tube. YES! No more dunking my fingers in it or getting my tub black! The Volcanic Ash Thermal Mask is a new cleansing mask that you mix with water and spread over the face, leaving on for five minutes, and it leaves your skin cleansed, and hydrated. Contains magnesium sulfate which gives a warming 'thermal' experience. I dunno if all that is BS but I can't WAIT TO FREAKING TRY IT.

I can't wait, this collection is total love.

While I totally totally totally agree that you shouldn't care what other people think of you while you're wearing it, I wish more of the general population thought the same way.

There's a rumor/legend going around school that a guy got fired from the place I want to work at for wearing brown shoes (and being a litte sarcastic in his reply when a supervisor yelled at him for it), so... won't be rocking the black lips at my internship.
lol.gif
Nights and weekends, though? And days when I only have class? Totally.

The only thing I'm thinking of passing on in this collection now is Gilt by Association (but I will probably give in) and maybe one of the nail lacquers (though I'll probably give in to that too). It's all just so...

Yea I totally feel ya...I have been in the travel/tourism industry for the past few years and even though I've done different jobs in the industry, almost all mandate that non-natural makeup, piercings, tattoos, etc are not allowed. I understand their POV but I don't like being so conservative sometimes.
