But there is a difference, you can ROCK it everyday and anytime if you wish. It's the confidence. You can be edgy, glam, and cool, not just at a night club, who cares if someone is looking at you weird if you're walking around with these MES smudged all over your eyes? That's what I plan on wearing, and people can go to hell if they're giving me funny looks because I know I'll be looking different and absolutely fabulous.

It's about HOW you wear it, not about making it wearable or everyday. It's about wearing it with confidence for what it's intended to be, DRAMATIC and over the top, in your face.

I seriously CANNOT wait for this.

While I agree with you in theory, I think in reality, this declaration is a bit pollyanna-ish. This style of cosmetics has a limited market because it looks unprofessional on most and it affects how credible you are. You can wear it and think people are in awe of your confidence, but will your boss think its awesome and think it means you're a confident person and a leader? No. Like it or not, thats how it is.

The second reason I won't touch black lipstick etc is because I believe this campaign is merely an attempt to capitalize on the twilight fad. And frankly I'm a little sick of the twilight goth/emo fad being shoved down my throat for the last year. So just a couple of the colourful MES for nighttime looks, and the VAE for me. The rest I'll leave for the high school kids to wear with their new set of fake fangs. Rawr!

I am a little turned off now that Twilight has come to mind.

I have to say, I feel a bit similarly-- I sometimes get this angst-ridden teenager vibe from this collection. I think the promo images is what did it most to me. I looked at them and said, "I knew these kids in HS"! And realized I graduated like 7 years ago. However, when done right, many pieces in this collection will rock. I most likely will skip the black lipsticks, as if I really want to wear black lipstick, I will go to my local halloween store :p The other pieces (sheer gloss, mes, etc) will be mine! I don't think I would wear it all at once, probably just one thing at a time, but we'll see.

There's a rumor/legend going around school that a guy got fired from the place I want to work at for wearing brown shoes (and being a litte sarcastic in his reply when a supervisor yelled at him for it), so... won't be rocking the black lips at my internship.

Nights and weekends, though? And days when I only have class? Totally.

The only thing I'm thinking of passing on in this collection now is Gilt by Association (but I will probably give in) and maybe one of the nail lacquers (though I'll probably give in to that too). It's all just so...

I am aware that you can't wear this stuff to work, or to interviews and stuff, and yes, I do agree that I wish the world wasn't that way either.

Well, I didn't mean wearing these sort of looks where there's rules against them. Obviously I'm not about breaking rules, I meant that if it's not a rule that you can't go crazy with your make-up, what's to stop you? I KNOW what you can't wear at work, I'm currently interning and I would never imagine wearing this kind of stuff to work.

I didn't imagine people would read so deeply into it, I DO know when you can't wear this sort of make-up, I wasn't asking people to go gung-ho crazy and wear this stuff to an office environment. I was just tired of hearing "I hope I can make this everyday wear" or "I hope there's a way to make these looks tamer" or "I hope I can make black lipstick look okay everyday" and just wanted to point out that no, those looks are NOT everyday, they never will be, so don't let that deter you from wearing it (outside of work and stuff) just because others will judge you.

But I guess you have to be really clear when you say stuff online.
I didn't think I had to spell out that I have the common sense to not wear this stuff to work or a job. Just because I didn't mention it in my original post doesn't mean I'm not aware about the impression make-up can make at work and can even get you fired. I know that is how it is, I never said it wasn't that way.

Elaine, please don't worry about it, I liked your post! I will be using one of these mes at least in the crease perhaps, I will wear it to my law firm work. Its not going to look out of place, its all in how you apply and blend.

I feel the comment directed toward you that really cheesed me off was inappropriate. I just get this holier-than-thou vibe.....sorry if I'm putting foot in mouth, but Elaine I don't think anything you said was wrong.

We can all discuss why or why we won't partake of a collection, but beginning to implicitly attack another members post so they feel bad about what they said? Not my cup of tea.

You aren't putting your foot in your mouth, but you are kind of being a hypocrite.

I didn't mean to make anyone feel bad about what they said; I'm not sure why my post or neonkitty's post (not sure which you're referring to, or both) was taken so personally. While the spirit of "eff everyone else, wear what you want, rock it grrrrl!" is admirable, it's not realistic for a lot of people.

Pointing that out isn't a personal attack. Calling someone holier-than-thou for expressing their own opinion is, though.

And before this thread degenerates into ridiculousness, I'm proposing that this be brought to PMs if anything further needs to be said. :p

I wasn't attacking you, that's not my intention. I don't feel bad for anything you said and you didn't attack me, but I thought I'd clarify what I said and that yes, I am aware that it's not realistic to wear this sort of make-up whenever you want.

I realized I misquoted your post. I'll fix it, so what I meant to address you with, will be what I'm saying to you. To make it more clear, sorry about that, and I know GiggleGirl wasn't referring to your post, as it wasn't offensive at all.

Can't wait for this! The MES look gorgeous and I love Mattenes so I will grab those two for sure. It's gonna be huge!

While I'm sure the majority of you meant the comments leaning towards "Twilight craze" and "emo-ness" were directed to heavy usage of this line or wearing black lips on a regular basis, I disagree that a touch of MES in the crease would be considered unprofessional or would affect "how credible you are".

Personally, it's not the black that's drawing me to this collection regardless of the name. It's the dark, sophisticated idea of a sexy deep red or berry lip -- by combining a touch of black l/s or l/g over or under a normal red -- which probably didn't get a negative stereotype slapped on it until the Twilight scene came around. Dark colours, fall colours. Considering Chanel and YSL (maybe Dior?) are developing similar collections, would they be pertaining to this particular fad too?.

Not throwing myself into the discussion or anything, but just saying. Being someone with a grand scale hatred for Twilight (though I'm not bashing fans! I read the books until the movies came around), it's offending to insinuate this collection is ONLY TARGETED for that market/age -- as if it couldn't possibly be pulled off in any other sense, office setting or not.

Again.. Whether this sounds meek or not, I'm not being argumentative or calling out anyone. Just stating my opinion.

Ice breaker. <3

I'm not 100% sure of the names (my mind is foggy without my coffee), but I'm loveloveloving the blue and purple ones. I guess because those are the ones I envied from NARS' collection that disappointed me.

Edit: Young Punk and Blue Flame.
