All I have to say is, it's not about making it wearable or making it work for you, this is intensely black and glittery, you can't make it an everyday look. Even just the MES applied over black liner WILL make a statement.

But there is a difference, you can ROCK it everyday and anytime if you wish. It's the confidence. You can be edgy, glam, and cool, not just at a night club, who cares if someone is looking at you weird if you're walking around with these MES smudged all over your eyes? That's what I plan on wearing, and people can go to hell if they're giving me funny looks because I know I'll be looking different and absolutely fabulous.

It's about HOW you wear it, not about making it wearable or everyday. It's about wearing it with confidence for what it's intended to be, DRAMATIC and over the top, in your face.

I seriously CANNOT wait for this.

Well, I didn't mean wearing these sort of looks where there's rules against them. Obviously I'm not about breaking rules, I meant that if it's not a rule that you can't go crazy with your make-up, what's to stop you? I KNOW what you can't wear at work, I'm currently interning and I would never imagine wearing this kind of stuff to work.

I didn't imagine people would read so deeply into it, I DO know when you can't wear this sort of make-up, I wasn't asking people to go gung-ho crazy and wear this stuff to an office environment. I was just tired of hearing "I hope I can make this everyday wear" or "I hope there's a way to make these looks tamer" or "I hope I can make black lipstick look okay everyday" and just wanted to point out that no, those looks are NOT everyday, they never will be, so don't let that deter you from wearing it (outside of work and stuff) just because others will judge you.

But I guess you have to be really clear when you say stuff online.
I didn't think I had to spell out that I have the common sense to not wear this stuff to work or a job. Just because I didn't mention it in my original post doesn't mean I'm not aware about the impression make-up can make at work and can even get you fired. I know that is how it is, I never said it wasn't that way.

I feel the comment directed toward you that really cheesed me off was inappropriate. I just get this holier-than-thou vibe.....sorry if I'm putting foot in mouth, but Elaine I don't think anything you said was wrong.

We can all discuss why or why we won't partake of a collection, but beginning to implicitly attack another members post so they feel bad about what they said? Not my cup of tea.

Please explain to me how my post was offensive and "attacking" Elaine?

I said I agreed with it theoretically but went on to explain why it doesn't translate to mainstream. It was a matter of debate, not attack, certainly not a personal attack by any means. There is a broad difference between disagreeing with someone's statement and creating discussion around it, versus an ad hominem attack. Explain to me how some people are allowed to make value statements but anyone who feels otherwise is not allowed to express their opinion or make similar value statements.

It bothers me that any disagreement or debate seems to be unpermissable here, as though intelligent debate were the work of the devil or some shizz like that.

In other news: I still hate twilight.

Personally, it's not the black that's drawing me to this collection regardless of the name. It's the dark, sophisticated idea of a sexy deep red or berry lip -- by combining a touch of black l/s or l/g over or under a normal red -- which probably didn't get a negative stereotype slapped on it until the Twilight scene came around. Dark colours, fall colours. Considering Chanel and YSL (maybe Dior?) are developing similar collections, would they be pertaining to this particular fad too?.

Not throwing myself into the discussion or anything, but just saying. Being someone with a grand scale hatred for Twilight (though I'm not bashing fans! I read the books until the movies came around), it's offending to insinuate this collection is ONLY TARGETED for that market/age -- as if it couldn't possibly be pulled off in any other sense, office setting or not.

Again.. Whether this sounds meek or not, I'm not being argumentative or calling out anyone. Just stating my opinion.

Well yeah you kind of are so why not own it? The "emo" has had a bad wrap for years, now it's suddenly cool, because of twilight, everyone wants to be goth. It's a trend. I did NOT say a little black in the crease is emo, nor did I say that everyone here is emo or uncredible, so please stop putting words in my mouth. I was discussing the general twilight trend, and specifically, black lipstick. As Elaine pointed out, similarly, you can't get away with that stuff at work, generally speaking. And like I said before, whether we all like it or not there ARE going to be judgements made about you based on what you wear. That's why I said I agreed with what she said in theory, but in reality, its debateable if people are going to see this as edgy and confident versus weird. Do you understand the difference here?

Just stating my opinion.

The characters in Twilight don't have black lipstick, black eyeshadow or even black eyeliner... They have pale skin, sculpted faces and red eyebags. I don't get how Twilight is even brought up in this discussion... Just saying.

Well, dark and gothy colors are fall/winter. Remember Cult of Cherry? Kirsch and Bing? I don't think it really has anything to do with the Twilight fad. It will be a recurring trend of the season, year after year.

Um, well, yeah, you don't say, I agree, I disagree, my bad, don't take it personal, you either, so we were saying about the collection of what we like

I want that darn greasepaint because Bunny has convinced me I do. I am intrigued.

Sigh. I give up. Clearly holding anything other than the popular opinion on specktra is unfathomable and punishable by incoherent ramblings and having greasepaint sticks thrown at you.

I wasn't putting words in your mouth. I didn't realise discussing anything was inappropriate. Wasn't it you that just said:

If I disagree, I'm simply adding to the discussion. I'm not going: No, you're wrong. We're all well aware our opinions are our own, aren't we?. The reason I added "Just stating my opinion." and the fact I was not calling around out is because it was exactly that. I wanted to emphasize it wasn't meant to be offensive, as I'm starting to see discussion here can quickly escalate to people taking things the wrong way.

If I wanted to talk about anyone's opinions that were made before mine, how else would I refer to them?.

Edit: Back to MES!. Not touching this again.

.. How much do you girls think you'll spend on this collection?.
