Eeee, thanks Sushi Flower for the info about the boxes!!!
greengrin.gif

Like the McQueen collection, it looks like I'll be keeping everything in its respective box, which is kind of really cool to me

.

I'm just brimming with excitement over this. The nearest MAC is now about 1.5 hours south of me, so there's no way I'd get an invite to a party, but it would have been nice.

EEeeeeeee!!!

Re: MAC - Venomous Villains discussion

So I was playing with my counter's Venomous Villains items. Here's some of my thoughts on it.

The beauty powders seem to have a bit more pigment to them. I was surprised when I tried on Briar Rose how one sweep over my cheeks seemed to colour them. So definitely better than some of the previous beauty powder releases. I would recommend if you are on the fence about Bite of An Apple blush, that you swatch it on you first.Once I played with it, I realized I have lots of colours similar. But if you don't have anything like it, it is a great colour.

The mineralized eyeshadows remind me of the ones from Style Black. They are pretty though. I mixed the blue and green on She Who Dares to make a sparkly liner.

Nail Lacquers are beuatiful. I never like the nail products from MAC and I like these. The reflective colours are amazing. One looks like Club eyeshadow in a bottle. I'm tempted to repaint my brushes with these.

The cool liquid powders feel incredible. They come across looking like the loose iridescent powders, but when you apply them it feels like you are applying a liquid product. I wish there was a non shimmery version, because otherwise I would be all over these.

The packaging is certainly fun. And I think it will sell fast, so be sure to pick up your favourites asap.

I'd like to see how Bite of An Apple compares to Hipness!

Chrystia, do you think they're similar?

There's a swatch in the swatch thread in which Erine compared BOA to a lot of blushes, including Hipness.

I didn't know the powder contained shimmer? Hm. I can't wait to play with it. It's kinda back on my list.

Well, I'm not Chrystia, but in the swatch thread Bite of an Apple is swatched next to several similar blushes including Hipness.

And yeah, Bite of an Apple is off my list. Just don't need it.

I have to admit I was not a huge fan of the packaging but when we saw the the actual boxes the products come in, You guys are going to LOVE IT!
yes.gif
We both kept saying they should have used that for the actual product. The outer boxes are matte black with the outline sketches of each character, very chic, very MAC. The interior of each box looks like satin fabric all draped and has a glossy finish, each collection has a different color.
I am so getting the nail polishes, the Mean Green one is trip. When my friend took it out I did not get the "green" part, it looked like the other Bad Fairy..but when you tilt the bottle the green comes out of nowhere ( how did you guys do that???)

Off my list: The mirror...Dr. Faciler looks straight up creepy on the front. I thought they should have gone with the obvious The Evil Queen, "Mirror, Mirror" right???
yes.gif
Oh well

The cooling powders, Have to have them both. GORGEOUS.

I could go on here..but this collection has my complete attention right now!

Re: MAC - Venomous Villains discussion

I just got back from checking out the line and it was exciting to see everything in real life! Here is my take on what I swatched:

The MES shadows:

smoother than the ones from style black and holiday last year. I took a tissue and rubbed them on the back of my hand. they went on smooth and there wasn't glitter sprinkling anywhere. I did not wet them and the application was still pretty smooth. The pinkish side of My Dark Magic (my fav) is a beautiful purple pink. the other side is deep purple with black. She who dares is pretty too. The green is like a glittery Humid. The blue side is like Blue Flame from last year, without the massive glitter. I'm passing on it.

The regular shadows and pigments:

were kind of boring. De-vil is my favorite. Its darker than Coppering, not a dupe. I swatched Coppering next to it, and Coppering is the brighter of the two. I also tried them next to Cut to fit and that one is more brown. Sweet Joy and Carbon, blah, nothing fab. Vainglorious is pretty, still on the fence about it. I swatched it with Cranberry and Star Violet and it is very different from the two. Vile Violet does not have any umph in it for me. I felt the same way about Memorabilia. They are just flat ashy purples, no dimension. If you want purple from the collection, get Push the Edge or My Dark Magic. I ignored Push the Edge last year. There are some nice sparkles in it. Brash and Bold, you know.

Glosses:

pretty nice. Wicked Ways is a beautiful blue red with a bit of pink. Very wearable and beautiful. OMG, it shocked me. Reminds me of Russian Red with sparkles in it. Revenge is Sweet is another beautiful one. SO pretty. I think its like Sweet Strawberry from HK, but a little more deep. Both warm up really nice on the lips. Wrong Spell looks like purple mud on. Its very dark and dramatic. Anyone looking for a very dark lip. This is it. The other lip glosses I didn't like. Strange Potion looks straight up peach. looks like it could go with spring forecast. Hot House, yall know. Devilishly Stylish, I forgot to look at it.

The lipsticks.

Toxic tale is very bright on my skin. pass. Heartless is a beautiful blue red. I didn't see any orange in it. I am passing for Wicked Ways, but those looking for a red for the fall. This is the one for you! Innocent Beware... not for me. Sinister is lighter than I expected. Like all I see is lavender, pink and then brown. Its a luster so not that much pigment. I think it would be nice over other things. Dark Deed, we've met before and its name is Kittenish. Its not a Cunning dupe cause it does not have the subtle sparkle like Cunning, and its more red. Violetta, y'all know. I think that's it in that department.

Cooling powders are cool. Cajun looks like it could fit in with the Naked Pigments. Looks like Naked Deep Dark to me. I want to swatch it on as a highlighter, with foundation on later. Truth and Light is pretty as well. Reminds me a bit of Nars Albotross, sort of. Maybe the Soft and Gentle MSF too. Look at them if you are looking for highlight powders. I can't imagine using them all over my face. We'll see.

Beauty Powders MEH. none of them for my complexion. Blushes. Darkly My Dear is not that dark on me. Bite of and Apple is EVERYTHING.

From checking everything out, I am hauling (final list)

De-vil
She who dares
Revenge is Sweet
Wicked Ways
Bite of an Apple Blush

that's it. i think this is a good amount for me to budget out for, without over doing it.
Oh and the Cajun cooling powder. IF it looks right with my foundation on. I am not pressed about it though. I will try to find the old size Push the Edge from the outlet.

its shimmer, but microshimmer. i got some out with a q-tip and rubbed it on my hand, but i did not feel anything cool.

Bite of an apple is haulable if you don't have anything like it, i feel. Its the deepest of what MAC has put out in that color range so far, so it shows up best on my skin. I still want salsarose one day.

Are the prices more just for the collection, or across the board? If so, I have a few lipsticks I want to haul before the price increase takes effect.

Re: MAC - Venomous Villains discussion

Thanks for the review sss215. I still believe I will like Vile Violet since I actually love Memorabilia and I don't find it ashy at all. I figured Toxic Tale would be bright. I'm thinking maybe being light with the application will help. I do like a bright lip, but I think with my heavy hand I could end up looking clownish if I'm not careful.

The cooling powder in Cajun seems like an all over face powder to me since I am not that dark. I'll have to see about that. Still wondering if it'll break me out. Maybe I should be safe and pass.

This review just confirms that I don't need Bite of an Apple. It's a done deal.

So it's Strange Potion, Toxic Tale and Vile Violet for me.

The prices are for this collection they have to pay licensing fees

That's how I feel about it. I am going to go with my gut instinct, because if I am not excited about it from the beginning, what's the point? Iam just going to place it in my collection and move on to something else. Besides, salsarose or apple red is more of what I wanted BOA to be and they look unique too.

I am pretty much set in stone on all the products Ive decided except one, Heartless, if it's more of a lighter and brighter type red, I am tempted to get it. But if it is very similar to Russian Red, I am passing. I would rather get Russian Red later on...

Re: MAC - Venomous Villains discussion

Bite of an Apple vs. Hipness
Hipness is not quite as pigmented as Bite of An Apple. Also Bite of an Apple has more pinkish red undertone, whereas Hipness is more coral orangish. Personally I'm passing on Bite of an Apple because I own Hipness and a few other blushes that are similar.

I feel like most of the lipsticks and lipglasses are easily dupable from the permanent line. I do like Hothouse l/g, Wicked Ways l/g, and Dark Deed lipstick. However I'm passing on all of the lips.

Also SSS215, try applying the cooling liquid powder with a fluffier brush. I used a 224 brush to swatch it on the back of my hand and I could feel it as I dusted it. Maybe a qtip is too sharp a point. Once I get back to work I will try it with an actual face brush to see if it works better.

Good to know! I'm always looking for something in that family, but not an exact dupe of what I have.

I heartily endorse this. I'm wearing Salsarose today and the colour is just amazing. Not sure if I'll like Bite of an Apple as much. At least, I find it difficult to imagine I'll like it as much.

Can't say 100%, but I seem to remember from earlier in this thread that the price increase applied only to these products and that they were likely the result of a licensing fee levied by Disney.

Thanks very much for the review!

@sss215: Thanks for the review. One question, you say the BPs were "meh" just how "meh" was *Briar Rose*? I have had my heart set on getting that one item in particular from day dot - but now honestly I am on the fence after reading "meh" lol.

TIA

My fave MA said they'd hold my stuff for me *whooop* *whooop* hope that offer will still stand when I roll up to the counter with my list of goodies!

Re: MAC - Venomous Villains discussion

okay wow i'm so excited for this!

My list has kinda changed...

Still BoA because I know if i don't get it, I'll regret it kinda thing.
Still BR bp now that I know it's more pigmented than expected. I think thiswill be a perfect cooltoned blush for me. Always buildable.
I've allowed myself one lip product...I still want Innocence Beware, I'll have to see how close it is to Nude Rose, which i just broke =. But I'm also leaning towards Revenge is Sweet. It looks so pretty and kinda like NARS Easy Lover but cheaper. Have to see how it looks on my lips!

Just curious, what do you mean, not that dark? What shade are you? Just asking because you look about the same color as me, maybe a tad lighter. I am MUFE#80, because anything lighter in their palette doesn't cover anything on my face and it blends in well. Not to digress, really, but I can wear anything from NC50, NW45, NW47 and NW50 depends on the formula. I don't wear MAC foundations anymore, but when I did I was all over the place. That is why I switched. No matter what, Cooling powder is for all over. Suppose to give you the Halo type glow.

Toxic Tale is very bright. Florescent. I don't like the way it feels when swatched. Sticky. Try Wicked Ways if you can. Its beautiful.
