NYX Products

i figured out a way to depot the new (made in south korea) nyx singles!

its a variation of the heat method and i discovered it 100% by accident. so i had my first depotting session today and i got 6 done with very minor problems. the last one was one of the 'new' ones and there is NO WAY i could wedge any kind of blade in between the plastic pieces. just not happening. so i thought i'd heat up the whole container on my flat iron and see if i could poke through the outer plastic part and pop the inner plastic part with the pan out that way. do not try that. it smells SO BAD.

so after like 10 minutes of wrestling with this damn shadow, i decided to wedge my knife between the shadow pan and its plastic nest and the shadow popped right now! i had gotten the glue warm enough from leaving the entire pot on my iron that it loosened and i just slid it out that way

i still have the entire pot intact and the shadow is perfect.

to recap:
- heat your flat iron as hot as you can get it

- put the entire shadow pot on the iron and let it heat up for probably about 45 seconds

- use the very tip of your knife to wedge in a corner of the pan - more surface area and an easier angle to pop the shadow out

- if it pops out, you're good. if not, throw the pan on the flat iron for a little longer and try it again

i think i'm going to start doing all my shadows this way.. so much easier and it hella reduces the risk of cracking shadows and cutting yourself!

hope that helps

Don't have a NYX rec, but I really like Revlon's Color Stay liquid eyeliners. They only have Very Black and Black Brown, but they're really great quality and (most importantly) don't sting my eyes.

I am TOTALLY DEEPLY, MADLY in love with NYX!!!! I bought them for the first time last night and played around with them last night. It was SO highly pigmented that I had to tone it down. I bought a trio, some glosses, lip and eye pencils. I was floored by how nice it turned out. AND, it was cheaper at my local beauty supply store than it was online. I can't WAIT to go back and pick up some more later on this week. This is a GREAT alternative when I really am having a new makeup fit...

Those of you that depot your NYX shadows - how do you store them after depotting?

I'm waiting for a bunch of shadows from Cherryculture, and I was thinking of depotting them and putting them in a Coastal Scents palette, with the separators popped off. But I'm wondering if there are some other good ideas on where to put them?

They are the same size pans as MAC, but the system with the magnets is the opposite of MAC, i.e. at CS the palette is magnetic, not the pan.

NYX shadows are square, so no, they don't fit. That's why I was thinking of taking off the part of the palette that has the round holes for the shadows and just using the palette without that part.

Someone also mentioned cutting the holes in the separator part to fit the NYX pans, in another thread. The separator on the CS palettes is a foam type material, so supposedly it would be reasonably easy to cut with an exacto knife.

another option is the zpalette

Z Palette

they're fully magnetized and there is no foam separator so you can put whatever you want in there without having to make it all ghetto looking. plus, the top is clear so its easier and faster to find things.

I know the NYX singles are square but I was thinking of the NYX trios that are circular. But it's prob better to just leave those in their palette they come in.

Does anyone know how much the Coastal Scents palettes are? I live near Naples so I could go to the actual Coastal Scents store but have never been. I almost have my 4th MAC 15-Palette full though so I was looking for another option. On a side note, MAC is having free shipping on any purchase and a free Zoom lash so I ordered my palettes from there.

Coastal Scents has all the prices on their site. Here's the page with the palettes (you need to scroll down to get to he empty ones).

I've seen the Z Palettes too, but they are about twice the cost of the CS equivalent.

Also I'm used to ordering from CS and know how their customer service works etc. So that's another thing in their favor for me.

Pressing NYX Pearl Mania

Yes I read the other post on this. I have everything I need to press the NYX pigments, but no one says what consistency I should be looking for. Someone help me here!

Re: Pressing NYX Pearl Mania

when i press my nyx pearl mania pigments, i make sure i don't overwet it. i use cs ez prez to press them. alcohol alone won't work because it won't bind well to it. make sure the consistency is less liquidy than pancake batter. don't overdo it. it's hard to describe. once u press a few, you'll get the hang of it. gl.

I have the EZ Press from Coastal Scents too. The site said "wet sand" for the consistency. But I don't know, I don't want to ruin them.

Something that I haven't seen mentioned either is how much pigment does it take to fill a pan? I have been thinking of pressing some of my loose shadows too, but I don't want to wet up too much.

yesterday my nyx stuffarrived. gotta say i'm slightly dissapointed
ssad.gif
my jumbo pencils in lavender and horseraddish are such beautiful colours - however even when used with udpp they still creased on me
ssad.gif
i even used my finger to pat on the thinnest layer of them too.

the gloss i got in french kiss is a lovely pink colour - but the weird cherry smell is too much for me and i think it's a bit runny!

i did get a pearl mania powder in a purpley colour which looks alot like violet pigment - that is lovely and stays on really well!

I'm doing about 8 faces on Saturday for a ladies' night. I'm trying to figure out how I can get some more NYX palettes between now and then...

^Do you have an Ulta store nearby? They are the only place I have seen NYX at... But I have heard random beauty supply stores sell it too, so maybe try those.

Did you use them as a colored base, or on their own? From what I've read most seem to have trouble with them on their own as cream shadows, but they make excellent color bases.

I use the Strawberry Milk pencil under pink shadows and it makes colors that I've previously felt were not so much pink but really beige once they got out of their jar, look really nice and pink on my lids. I haven't had any problems with creasing either.

^ Same here. I just got NYX Jumbo Pencil in Milk and it's a total must have! It really makes the color of my shadow last and goes on very smooth as a base (a little goes a long way- just blend it out- I use my finger to blend it). I also used it as a highlighter on my brows and it looked great. The color is still going strong and I ran 4 miles earlier outside in the southern humidity!!!
