These are some of my favorite songs and they make me sad for some reason:

Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah (Leonard Cohen cover)
Jeff Buckley - Lilac Wine (Elkie Brooks cover, I think?)
Joy Division - Love will tear us apart
Johnny Cash - Hurt (NIN cover)

"Jesus Christ" and basically the whole of the "Deja Entendu" album by Brand New - clever lyrics, some really deep. Play Crack The Sky nearly always gets me all teared up. I listened to this album when I was younger and going through a rough patch... very appropriate for the time.
Also "NYC" and "A Time To Be So Small" by Interpol (fave band... :p)- my sad songs. They're generally not a sad band for me, so I only really listen to those songs when it feels right.
First three tracks of Sigur Ros' ( ) album (they're untitled so... :p)
Ryan Adams' version of Wonderwall. If that's not a tearjerker I don't know what is...

Only one song has ever made me cry. Unfortunately, I was drunk at the time and I now don't remember what that song was.

As for depressing songs, well just a few...

"And All That Could Have Been" and "Leaving Hope" by nine inch nails (both off of the "Still" EP, not recommended for anyone going through some kind of break up at all unless you want those heartstrings yanked, then again, NIN is just good for that.)
"Heroes" by David Bowie
"Into My Arms" by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds
"Gloomy Sunday" by Diamanda Galas (alot more depressing than Billie Holliday's version, it stays true to the original Hungarian suicide song without selling out.)
"Just a Car Crash Away" by Marilyn Manson
"Three Libras" by A Perfect Circle (I can't even listen to it, too much emotional bullshit is still attached.)

Oh Wow! I thought I was the only one out there who listens to Diamanda Galas. I love to break her stuff out on Halloween, it usually scares the kiddies nicely. (I have the Masque of the Red Death box set)

Awesome taste in music by the way!

"Wish You Were Here" by Pink Floyd makes me cry everytime I hear it, and ironically it is my all time favorite song!

"The Water is Wide" by James Taylor

"Christmas Shoes" You know! That song about little kid who wants to buy his mom shoes so she'll look beautiful if she meets Jesus! I turn down the radio every time it comes on.

"Tears in Heaven" by Eric Clapton

I'm sure there are more, but I don't want to think about them right now. lol

Thank you! I prefer Diamanda's darker, more noisier stuff, but she's an overall powerful performer.

I'm still hoping to bust out "The Litanies of Satan" on some unsuspecting trick or treaters for some future Halloween.
