WOC can be beautiful & curvalicious, but not white chicks

Hmmm....I don't know. There is definitely a line with black and white women. Black women are definitely admired when they have weight "in all the right places"---the ass and the thighs. When you see this on white women, 9 out of 10 times, you'll hear whispers. "Fat" and "Fine" all comes down to who's looking. And, it's hella funny too---I would love to see outtakes of Beyoncé's SI shoot because she's been outed a few times on various blogs wearing buttpads to enhance her shape.

I think what's most important to me is that these women maintain healthy weights and lifestyles and let the world know that.

I don't know if it's just Hollywood. It has to be more than that. It's not just the media's fault. Maybe they like being thinner and maybe they're pressed into being thinner for a role for a movie or something. No one really knows for sure, but it has to be more complicated than just blaming the media. Honestly I do think Kate Bosworth and Christina Ricci look better thinner. It could be their lifestyle making them lose weight as well. Usually they have personal trainers and are really busy and things like that that make it harder to gain weight.

I think when they grow up and mature more, they'll realize that not all girls are and don't want to be like those characters.

That reminds me of last week I was watching Dr. Phil because I was bored and a couple were on because he was complaining about her being fat and Dr. Phil said that he had a much higher BMI than his wife and that he was being so hypocritical. That bugged me.

I don't completely agree with the first article. I think WOC hold fat differently than other races, not because they accept being big. The curves are different and look good on WOC, but white people hold it in different areas, that is why it looks bad. I'm white and I have a really small ass and accept that and it's sexy. My husband says i'm curvy but I'm not very big. I guess it all depends on how you define "curvy" vs. fat. Pretty much all the white women i know are small, not because they diet, but because of their genetics. Their is pretty in every race if you know what you are looking at. Hollywood should promote a healthy and active lifestyle no matter what though.
I guess too skinny would be when your health becomes negatively impacted. Some people can't gain weight no matter what. and some can't lose certain weight either.
Heidi klum. I have never seen the before picture. I'm amazed and I don't know why she had all that plastic surgery, she was fine before. I think she is pretty now, but why mess with success? As for her breasts I don't like the new set. They look too obviously fake and there is no hint of natural left in them.

My own nephews are highly conscious of body fat on their girl friends. They don't want any fat, but they want boobs. ??? One stated that he would like his girlfriend to look exactly like one of those animated characters in a computer game or a Playmate. I gave him a talk, but it doesn't do any good. They want perfection. They pick their poor girlfriends apart behind their backs.

I hear things --"I try to walk her." "I take food away from her at restaurants." I said, "She isn't a dog. She is a healthy girl. What is wrong with you? Do you think you are perfection? Leave that girl alone and love her for what she is."

Wow! What jerks, i know a couple of guys like that. How old are these? I think when they mature a little more a.)they'll find a 100 pound girl with size DD breasts and treat them like crap or b.) they'll eventually accept that people look different and that they don't look perfect either. and hopefully become nicer men.
They need to be picked apart IMO in the harshest way possible.

Also, they would never want their white chick girlfriends to look as "fair" as they normally are. They would need to go to the tanning salon too. Talk about brainwashed from the media!! You are white, but don't look it. You are curvy, but loose it. When you loose it, go get some some surgery.

Opps, my picture didn't show. Just a sec.

I hope these guys are willing to pay for the plastic surgery and then the cancer treatments your going to have to have from tanning all year long.
I think they are going to be in for some major disappointments.

I have to agree with you to a point. Women of color have different body shapes and carry their (our) weight differently. Now this is not a hard and fast rule because I have seen white women with shapes that I would have sworn belonged on a women of color and vice versa. I think the standards are also different culturally. Beyonce, Jennifer Lopez, Kim Kardashian, etc. have shapes that a revered in the Black community, especially, and not really seen as anything abnormal or unique. My friends and I laugh about Kim because she is known for dating mostly Black guys. She says that she has dated men of all different races, who knows. But, I don't think it's a coincidence that all the guys we know of her being with recently are Black considering the body type most/a lot of Black men like.

I hate to keep giving links. My pictures just don't so up by themselves.

It's like the high fashion magazines show Heidi's buns. Now, I am not picking on her. I am just using her as an example. Her buns are so flat. I can set my water bottle on them. Guys don't know that she is sticking out her sit bones as much as she can to create the illusion of a curve. So, the standard of a white chick becomes raw bone skinny with butt and boobs. By the way, she didn't have that either. She is too thin. That's the point. - White chick - skinny.

I don't think she is too thin. She is pretty tall and taller people are often skinny. Her butt was probably airbrushed as were other parts.
Guys do notice these little tricks too. At least in my age range. My husband constantly picks apart pictures of people, he may be the exception because he is into photoshop and photography. Not everyone is like those college boys.
What's wrong with a white chick being skinny? I'm skinny, i'm white and i like being that way. I have weighed alot before and it just wasn't me. The fat slowed me down considerably and was hard on my knees. I feel good about myself now and I am not having health problems, however my inlaws tell me i'm too skinny (and they are both overweight). Weight becomes a problem when you your immune system is weakened because you are malnourished. signs of this are fainting, dizziness and being tired.
It's all about attitude as well. Sometimes a strong attitude will attract more than a good looking person will.

I'm not sure about some of the conclusions that article comes to, or rather it's my opinion that they got it backwards. They're implying that it's okay for black/hispanic women to be curvier because they themselves say it's okay, whereas we poor white girls are just so insecure that we can't make that happen for us.

I think it's more the other way around. More white girls are insecure BECAUSE there's less wiggle (or jiggle, heh) room for us. Black/hispanic girls don't get as much crap for having curves, so of course they're going to be less insecure on the whole; they've got more support (especially from the men) saying hey, it's okay, you look hot that way! One group has every single fashion mag staring them down going "SIZE ZEROOOOOO! SIZE ZEROOOO!" while the other two groups get more of "Well, you SHOULD be a size zero, but gosh, you're just so exotic that it's okay that you're not! Grrr, sexy mama!"

(Not that the whole "Latina = exotic slut" and "Black = wild jungle bitch from Africa" stereotypes are any less offensive than the meek-and-tiny-white-girl, but strictly body-type-wise, y'all generally get less pressure than we do to go all Auschwitz.)

(Although if ever there were a woman who could totally rock the "wild jungle bitch from Africa" stereotype and make it her slave, oh Grace Jones, you were it)

See, that's my point though. I think you *see* those interviews in the *first* place because those women are comparatively more encouraged to embrace their curves, while the white girls are more pressured for a high-fashion model look. Of course they're not going to embrace their curves as much as non-white women - they don't get told it's okay to nearly as often.

I don't buy that an entire ethnicity is just randomly more insecure than another and that it's all on us to fix it. I don't buy that us poor stupid white girls just haven't caught onto something that those big beautiful ethnic girls have known all along - which is the implication there, although I know that's not what you specifically meant at all, and I'm not accusing you of saying so. How many black and latina girls get told their curves are sexy and are encouraged to keep them? Probably a lot. How many white girls get told the same thing? Not a lot. Get more people, especially more white men, to tell white girls how sexy their curves are, get that idea into popular culture, and white girls will be every bit as secure as non-white girls, I promise.

those butt pictures were... interesting.
it's simple to me. culture. black and latinas see being thick as beautiful because it's whats natural for their bodies. but i don't really know!

Yes, I totally agree -Fullwroth. We do need to hear things like- Wow, you fair ladies are beautiful and curvalicious. That does make me feel good.

Yeah, it's not even all just about men - we unfortunately still tend to segregate things by race based on stereotypes. Black people who don't have some kind of accent get accused of trying to act white, white people who speak all ghetto ebonics-style get accused of trying to act black (and okay, in some cases they are, but in other cases it's just the speech pattern they grew up with, not an affectation, and since when is an accent a racial trait?), and it all transfers over to bodies, too.

I remember the judges on ANTM at some point, when complimenting how a white model stuck her butt out in a shot to make it appear bigger, making some kind of remark about how she's almost got "black girl booty" or something. I was a little shocked, I have to admit. Since when do black girls have a monopoly on big butts? My butt's kinda big, is it gonna turn black once it gets past a certain radius? Is there a formula I can measure it with? Am I interracial if my butt's black and the rest of me is white, even though there aren't any black people in my family tree? It gets very silly.

I hope we can get to a point someday where fat is fat and thin is thin, regardless of race, and women like Kate Winslet are the rule rather than the exception. My fear, however, is that as non-white models become more and more prominent, we might actually see it go the other way, with more non-white girls becoming insecure as they start to see more stick-thin models of their ethnicity and begin to feel the pressure. I hope that doesn't happen.
