Amen! I'm nearly middle-aged, and fat and have finally, at age 37 learned to love myself in all my fatness. That's not to say I don't need to lose some weight, I know I do in order to remain healthy and keep up with my son. I also know that I'm much happier at my current age and size 22 than I ever was when I was 135 lb and size 8. Its all about what's in my head, not on my hips. I got tired of hating myself and feeling inadequate so I decided to stop. I'm not 100% successful all the time, but more often than not I am.

Thank you, that's what I was meaning. Exactly.

I'm glad you resolved that in your own mind.

Im going to say this, but most 'white' chicks do not get as pronounced or nicely proportioned curves as other races - every race has different, and thats it, we should celelbrate this, call me what you like, i know im right

I don't buy that an entire ethnicity is just randomly more insecure than another and that it's all on us to fix it. I don't buy that us poor stupid white girls just haven't caught onto something that those big beautiful ethnic girls have known all along - which is the implication there, although I know that's not what you specifically meant at all, and I'm not accusing you of saying so. How many black and latina girls get told their curves are sexy and are encouraged to keep them? Probably a lot. How many white girls get told the same thing? Not a lot. Get more people, especially more white men, to tell white girls how sexy their curves are, get that idea into popular culture, and white girls will be every bit as secure as non-white girls, I promise.

nvm. didn't realize how old the thread was.

society ay!!!! I come from an island in the Mediterranean and in europe ..especially where im from many females are obsessed with their weight!!! its crazy!!!!!!! & i hate it cos the ones who lose weight (when they werent fat in the first place) look worse off than they were. i used to weigh 98 pounds when i was 18, and i think it was normal in europe but i HATED it!!!! i hated being skinny....i guess i like women with curves....thats my ideal type.....so anyways than as i started getting older i started gaining weight and i loved it!!!!!! BUT people back home were calling me fat or telling me ive gained weight like its a bad thing. but i ignored them cos i love my curves and the most important people in my life told me i look much healthier. The only thing i have to be careful is that im short and if i gain weight it will show a lot...so i go to the gym and try and eat healthy....but my purpose is to stay healthy, and tonedup. Before i started running i was scared id lose too much weight..crazy ay!!!?

so in my opinion i think that people should be happy with their shapes as long as theyre happy with it. whether your fat, thick, skinny and you love it....dont let society and the people around you put you down because they think otherwise. Sometimes those people who make nasty comments need to take a good look at themselves before they start speaking because noone is perfect.

As long as you take good care of yourself & stay healthy thats the main thing.

Yowza... what a great debate... creative minds discussing a very prominant issue for women today.
It is true that we don't need a man to tell us that our curves are beautiful we need to get to that point where we are comfortable with our bodies and we FINALLY ACCEPT WHO WE ARE and how we've been made!
This idea that men are to be the ones to tell us that we're beautiful is absolutely ridiculous.. What are we telling the young ladies of tomorrow? That they are only beautiful if you're a size 0? That you have to show T&A to get a man's attention? Come on!!!

I don't like stress so I don't get why some women have to stress themselves out- obsessing that their butt is too big and their nose is crooked.
To tell you the truth I do see more white women wanting to change their body parts or being more unsatisfied with the way they were made.
What is wrong with having a big butt if that is what you're born with?

I know its preference but I don't see the point of having no shape.. just being a stick figure that looks like they are about to drop dead.

I am a size 14 and bloody proud of it! Instead of the dieting and starvation I am trying my best to eat well and be active. My body image motto is NOT to be skinny.. it is to be healthy and be happy and comfortable with myself.

There are some naturally curvy "white" women. Marilyn Monroe was one of them.

I agree that we should celebrate different body types. However, I disagree with you're "I know I'm right" statement, because it doesn't lend itself to much discussion if you immediately declare that you're right.

It's hard to pin down the meaning of what "having curves" means. To some groups it means having a fuller bust line and an hourglass shape, to others, it's a coke-bottle shape with a round derrière and thick thighs. Not all types of curves are viewed equally in many communities. In Hollywood, having the "right" curves means having larger breasts and a smaller waist line in relation to hips. In other cultures, the backside is more emphasized and not having a prominent rear end despite having "everything else" might be considered ungainly by some. I guess it's all relative.

My own nephews are highly conscious of body fat on their girl friends. They don't want any fat, but they want boobs. ??? One stated that he would like his girlfriend to look exactly like one of those animated characters in a computer game or a Playmate. I gave him a talk, but it doesn't do any good. They want perfection. They pick their poor girlfriends apart behind their backs.

I hear things --"I try to walk her." "I take food away from her at restaurants." I said, "She isn't a dog. She is a healthy girl. What is wrong with you? Do you think you are perfection? Leave that girl alone and love her for what she is."

They better be careful because usually the retort to that is "oh you only want a tiny woman so your wee wee will look bigger"

I think the standards are also different culturally. Beyonce, Jennifer Lopez, Kim Kardashian, etc. have shapes that a revered in the Black community, especially, and not really seen as anything abnormal or unique. My friends and I laugh about Kim because she is known for dating mostly Black guys. She says that she has dated men of all different races, who knows. But, I don't think it's a coincidence that all the guys we know of her being with recently are Black considering the body type most/a lot of Black men like.

Lol I was like damn a black ex husband ex bf and current bf. I didnt even know thats who she was known for mostly dating.

I'm going to have to disagree with this statement, and I know I'm right! I'm living proof, as a white woman with a big butt!

Also, Kim Kardashian is technically a caucasian woman, as she is armenian and that's right where the caucasus mountains are located!

To say that there is a "white" body type or a "black" body type is not accurate. There are variations everywhere. I know that in different parts of Europe, people tend to have different body types depending on the country, but it's not a steadfast rule. Same thing with Africa, people from different regions have different looks.

We should embrace different kinds of beauty. Some people are naturally thin, some are bigger, there are different shapes, whatever. People like different things, and so we shouldn't try to conform to one idea as being a model of what beauty should be.
