MAC Interviews & Hiring Process

Hi guys and girls! I need a little advice here. I had an interview with a Mac counter last month. The interview went really well and the counter manager and assistant retail manager both loved me. I called to check up on them every week and 2 weeks later, the assistant retail manager called with some great news, telling me that they just opened up a part time 18 hour position and "she would love to offer it to me." I was ecstatic and jumping for joy. She told me that the next step would be to wait for her to call me back about setting up a phone interview with someone higher up. But then a week later when I spoke to her she apologized and said that her bosses told her that they didn't make their quota/sales for the year and that the positions available were no longer open, and they can't hire anybody. :( I was heartbroken. She sounded genuinely sorry and really wanted to help me so she said to give her another week for her to make some calls to try and find me a position somewhere. So I spoke to her a week later and she said there are no open positions anywhere, and that she sent my information to the regional recruiter for when a position opens up or for the next freelance fair. I thanked her and told her I am hopeful and would love to work for Mac more than anything, and she told me that they would love to have me, that I am amazing, and she thanked me for being so patient during this whole process. She also said she was going to call the recruiter once more to make sure she got my information, but she told me not to wait around since she doesn't know when a position will open up. My question here is what should I do? I really want to work for Mac, I can't see myself at any other company. I've worked at several cosmetic companies before to build experience and I feel like it's my time to finally be at Mac once and for all. I know from reading some posts on here that getting a job at Mac can be a long process but I really can't wait around anymore since I need money soon. Should I wait for a call or just go apply elsewhere at another company (which I don't want to do and know I won't be happy at)? A few months ago I interviewed at Nordstrom cosmetics but my heart wasn't in it since it wasn't Mac so I didn't do too well at the interview. I just feel so discouraged, like my dreams have been crushed. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much for reading this dolls!

Thanks, maybe I should rephrase-- I meant what should I do as in should I just wait for a call from the recruiter? I just hope I won't be put into a pile and forgotten about. Has anyone else gotten a call a while later, like months later? Not sure if there's anything else I can do at this point but wait.

Thanks I have been reading threads on here for hours, I found a lot of good info! However, I do not have any retail/sale expierence. One of the artists at MAC told me to not get disincouraged and let that get in the way because she herself didnt have any retail expierience either and got the job. Do you think it's a big deal?

Well I love MAC and I was trying out for my local counter and the manager told me that if I did not hear from her by last monday to give her a call and I called her on tues to only be told that she would be out for two days so I called on thursday and I left a message for her, she never called and I drove up to a MAC freestanding store( which is 2 hrs away) and gave my resumes my sales and my make-up resume and the assistant manager was complimenting me on my make-up and asked me about the company and I helped a girl with blush which they both loved. She told me that the position that they are hiring for is not open and to look on craigslist for the post and once it is posted then give her a call and she can schedule an interview. I think that I got really good feedback from both managers so I guess now I have to play the waiting game for the post and I am upset about how the counter that is closer to me like brushed me off. I mean I love, breathe and Love makeup and I think that I will be a great asset for the company. I want this so bad, I was wondering should I call once a week to pretty much let them know that I am still very interested in the job and so that they can remember my name? Ugh... the waiting game...... does anyone know about a possible career fair or something in the WI, IL area?

I want this so BAD!!!!

I am just gonna keep praying for this.

I recently did my makeup demo at my local MAC counter, so I thought I would share my experience with all you lovely people! =]

I handed in my application last Wednesday afternoon. As soon as I handed it in, the manager pulled me aside and I had a little interview with her. She asked me the usual stuff like how I would deal with multiple customers at the same time, why I feel I am an asset to the company ect. And then she ended the interview by scheduling me for my makeup demo the next day! I was both excited and kinda nervous about it

So yesterday afternoon, I went in for my makeup demo. I had my friend come with me to be my model, and I was instructed to give her a look appropriate for everyday wear. The MA provided me with some brushes and I began my makeup. After that, I was told to use three more products and turn it into a night time look. I asked my friend what she would want for a more glamorous look and she told me red lips, which TBH, I kinda got excited about lol

After it was all done, I had a little interview with the MA who was overseeing my demo. I got a lot of positive feedback (foundation matched perfectly, my technique was on point, my interactions with the customer were great, and she appreciated my knowledge about sanitation). The few negatives were she wished I had extended the eyebrows out a bit more, one top lip was slightly more round that the other, and my station could have been more organized. But all in all, I got the impression that I did a good job.

I went into the interview hoping for the best, and I really don't know how anything could have happened to make me feel more happy about it other than being hired on the spot! lol
