Chanel Fall 2011

It's a little scary to me looking at pictures & swatches and reading descriptions on various sites this time around because my perceptions irl are really quite different than some and I often rely on bloggers for ordering online.

On my monitor, these pictures of the Prelude quad:

http://www.thebeautylookbook.com/2011/06/chanel-fall-2011-prelude-quadra.html

are far more representative than these pictures:

http://www.temptalia.com/chanel-prelude-eyeshadow-quad-review-photos-swatches

Anyway, these shades look very different on...it really *must* be tried on your eyes before you decide one way or the other. I really LOVE it.
I read that. Her swatches make the shades look a lot more interesting than I initially thought. They always looked beautiful, but more like standard colours I already have. Seen up close, they're quite breathtaking. I just have to remember that no one is going to be seeing them that close...

Now I want both Prelude and Topkapi...

I have to share my story about ordering the Byzance stuff from the Soho store - I had placed my order Sunday afternoon at about 4. I wasn't sure whether the girl who answered (who did not identify herself) got the quad on the order, so I tried to call back at 5 to make sure. There was no answer at the main number, and when I punched in the number for the Beaute dept, I ended up with voicemail for someone specific, so I figured they closed at 5 and I would have to call back on Monday.

I looked up the Soho store's hours and found out that they supposedly close at 6 on Sundays, not 5,
hmm.gif
but I guess they decided to close up shop early. They are open during the week from 11-7, but I called Monday morning at about 9 on the off-chance there was someone there packing orders. No anwser, so I opted to leave a message with the person ('Nicole') on the voicemail I had reached on Sunday. I called back again at 11, and 'Stephan' answered. I told him I had placed an order on Sunday, and that I just wanted to verify what was in the order to make sure the quad was there. He then asked me who took the order, and I told him the girl did not identify herself when she answered the phone. Then he says, 'was it Courtney?'. I said: SHE DIDN'T IDENTIFY HERSELF WHEN SHE ANSWERED THE PHONE, SO I DON'T KNOW WHO IT WAS'. He then started to ask me if it was a different person...........does ANYONE listen anymore?

He told me he'd call me back in 30 minutes, he had to find my order. He never called back. So I called again, got 'Monique' this time, and she said she would have to find the order and call me back in 30 minutes. She actually did........even though I told her why I was calling, she apparently didn't listen either - when she called me back all she said was 'your order will go out today and you'll receive it on Wednesday, signature required'. I said, um, yes, I know that, but I needed to verify what is IN the order. She then had to put me on hold while she went to find out if it had been shipped........when she came back, she said that if the order had gone out, what did she want me to do about the quad? I said, well, I don't want to incur shipping, so why don't you waive shipping and mail it to me. She kept asking what I wanted her to do if the order had gone out........
huh2.gif

After all that, I'm still not sure what will be in my order, as she never really told me what was on it. She just asked, what should be in it? I told her, and I'm hoping for the best. She was very nice, and was trying to be helpful, but it's not what I would call 'competent' customer service.

So, the net of it was, 'Stephan' did not return my call......'Nicole' did not return my voicemail, and I'm not sure what will be in my box on Wednesday.

What is it with me? Do I expect too much?

That is pitiful. Sadly I find that level of "customer service" pretty par for the course these days...everywhere. Not exactly confidence instilling. Hopefully the collection will be online and hopefully you will get your package soon enough to make up for any possible omissions.

Winthrop, I owe you a PM about the color of the silver/taupe color - I haven't forgotten :). I'll check it later today when I get home.

Thanks Shypo, although tbh I am just getting the quad at this point either way.

So you expect your package to be waiting for you when you get home today? That's exciting!!!

When did yours arrive? Mines still not here and I'm getting paranoid that I missed the bell or something! Lol hope it arrives today for everyone :) enjoy your goodies!

Ummm...I think it was like 10am? I hadn't been up long so it was fairly early on! I am sure it will arrive today for you
thmbup.gif

Lou, it was DHL @Home that delivered mine, the local courier ones in cars, not a DHL wagon?

Winthrop did you specifcally ask me to try and demonstrate whether the taupe was more taupe-y or more silvery? If so, I shall try!

I can't do a FOTD as I don't have time, but product pic and natural light swatches on Nc20 skin coming right up

oh my goodness! that is crazy bad service!! i'm shocked to be honest. when you spend a large amount of money you'd think they would try and be helpful and make sure things go smoothly!

MrsB -- yay that everything arrived! I would love to see pics of everything!

Gail -- it is amazing how the colors look so different from blog to blog. I really want to get Prelude -- such a bummer that I can't see it in person! I love cool toned neutrals, so do you think it is a safe bet??
I love that quilt in your avatar, BTW. My mom does quilting and they are amazing!

Cheryl -- I am speechless -- that is crazy about the Soho Boutique. Have they given up totally on customer service?? I hope your order comes and it has everything you wanted. I'd hate for you to have to deal with Stephan/Nicole/Monique again!!

I'm glad that Temptalia is giving Chanel positive reviews again!

Thanks Michelle - that is part of a quilt (it's a wallhanging) I made in a sashiko class. :) Yes, if you like cool neutrals I think you'd love it. And Chanel does have free returns if it just really doesn't work for you. Then again it is perm so there would be plenty of time to check it out one day in-store too. Thankfully no rush on this one.

winthrop - that quilt is beautiful!

Michelle - Prelude could be what I'm looking for - a cool tone neutral quad! Very excited!

Cheryl - Hope you get your order and have everything you want there. It is so frustrating to waste the time and breathe calling and talking to the customer service.

MrsB - enjoy Topkapi! It really is beautiful in the pan. I only used it once because it is so beautiful I don't want to ruin it.

I took some pictures of the Topkapi quad. Firstly, I'll apologise as I prefer natural light pictures, but its so cloudy here I took a couple with flash to show 'sheen' that these shadows have.

A little review:

Texture: Amazing! So smooth. I used my fingers to swatch for the pictures and there was no chalky or dry feel to any of these shadows, just buttery soft texture. For application, I would say a good fluffy shadow brush or fingers would work - I'd leave the sponge applicators, they're cute but pretty worthless - they absorb way too much product.

Pigmentation: Really good. In the pics below, the swatches where literally 1 second rub over the colour and applied. I'd say the taupe colour is the least pigmented but really that's just due to the nature of it being a pale neutral. I think that depending on application you can make your looks as dramatic or neutral as you like as they are buildable but give a good wash of colour when applied lightly.

Colours: What is not to love? Can I just say the pale yellowy gold in this quad is gorgeous! Its such an 'adult' gold shadow if that makes sense? It had a beautiful sheen but wasn't a megawatt teenage 'bling' gold. So intense but perfectly balanced. The deepened brown colour is the least sheen-y and will make a gorgeous smokey eye or combined with the taupe all over lid, and the deep brown in the crease. The taupe is wonderful on my skin, it leans cool to me but that's nice as its not a 'dirty' muddy taupe - its a clean pale taupe with a good amount of sheen, I don't get a lot of silvery tones from it on application though in the pan it does have that look. The bronze is very much a warmer brown bronze to me, I think it will be the hardest for me to work with due to my colouring but its a solid brown shade without being too full on.

Hope this all helps, I'm new to make up reviews!

Gail -- I really want both quads! But glad the Prelude quad is perm. I am such a sucker for neutrals on the eyes.
How long have you been quilting? I really should have taken the time to learn to sew/quilt -- my mom is amazing and always tried to teach us growing up. I have a lot of friends who are amazing at it as well. Now I am kicking myself for not learning!

MissQQ -- I agree -- cool neutrals = right up my alley!

MrsB -- Thank you, great pics! I am with Gail -- that silvery taupe color is gorgeous!

No, hue is pinker/lighter nude. Plumetis is more brownish nude with slight pink. Its like a natural lip color some sheen to it. HTH

^^ Thanks for sharing. This is posted in our foundation thread so you can go check it out. It is replacing Pro Lumiere.

elegant - is Plumetis like Hue? I recently b2m for it and I like the colour but my lips dislike the formula. It looks patchy on me.

I've been quilting for about 20 years...I taught myself from a video made by a very nice group of little old ladies in New England, lol. It's much, much easier than sewing clothes or making window treatments, for example. If you have an interest you should definitely start. It would be so much fun to make quilts and wallhangings for your girls' rooms!

I just called my Saks for the heck of it to see if they were getting Byzance and when they were getting fall. They never heard of Byzance (no surprise there) and won't be getting fall until August! I wonder if my Nordstrom is any different.

Seriously incompetent! That kind of stuff annoys me to no end. They are terrible about answering their phone at that Boutique! I feel for you with that kind of frustration. Hopefully all will be there in your order!
