As mentioned, MAC doesn't sell 8-set brushes anymore. I'm not surprised to see them faking Chanel, Trish McEvoy, NARS, etc brushes as well.

Another seller to avoid is bobbibrown_in / eLuxury Brush. This faker has also sold fake MAC brushes (check feedback). Charges postage 2x - 3x more than normal. I remember asking for Express (they charged $10 when its only $7.40) and she sent it as Registered (which is about $3.30) so I demanded that I get free postage (Registered since she won't let me use Express) otherwise I'd report her/leave -ve feedback. So I did then I found out the brushes were fakes! hahaha :/ I guess they're still ok though. I didn't pay RRP for them. Hmmph.

Ive just messaged the seller in the auction links you posted to ask whether they were bought from MAC recently as a set or as single brushes. MAC hasnt sold as sets (full size/non LE brushes) for several years - and seller that says otherwise is lying.

Re: Fake Brushes - sparkly handles

Hi
I'm a bit confused about what the handles of the long brushes should look like. Matt black colour is what people say, but I bought one from a MAC store and it is matt, but has very slight shimmer to it. Is this a real brush?

(I have read that the short SE brushes often have a slight shimmer on the handle?? I have some of these and mine do.)

Also bought a 224 from mac.lovers and it also has a slight shimmer to the handle - not really sparkly, but it has a slight shimmer in the black.

Can anyone help me to understand this??

Many thanks.

Yes thats authentic - its when its glittery or has a different sheen/finish to it that is a worry (counterfeit signs).

Just wondering...if MAC staff aren't authorized to authenticate items, what if someone bought a really good fake from ebay and returned it to the store. Would it be accepted? Someone mentioned that fakes can be really good nowadays, so does it follow that even if I do buy my brushes from a MAC store, I still have a chance of buying a good fake? This gets me very worried...alot of the bigger MAC brushes are pretty expensive. I want to know that if I pay retail I don't need to worry! Let me know what you girls think...

From what ive read from those that know:
You should always need a receipt when returning items (i know we've all heard of plenty of people that havent needed them), and all items returned (even if you return it before you walk out of the shop doors) are chucked in the returns graveyard (alas i dont know the real name for it - i assume they B2M them eventually?). I dont know if the brushes returned are cleaned and used by the MUA's, But they should never be put back of the shelves according to MAC policy. Even if hypothetically you bought a counterfeit brush from MAC, it would be of poor quality and shed hairs or bleed paint/dye. You would just need to take it back to MAC for an exchange as real MAC brushes shouldnt do this.

The MAC brushes they are selling are counterfeit, I can't comment on the other brands as I am not that familiar with those brushes.

The brush "sets" with cases are well known counterfeit items that keep popping up on ebay.

mitcha: I have looked at marescot's brushes and can't tell from the photos as the detail is hard too see and they are pretty small

The MAC brushes of the last eBay seller are definitely fakes.

I bought a fake MAC 182 a few weeks ago. It was only like $14 with shipping. It's actually a pretty good quality brush. I kept it and left the seller neutral feedback since it was still a fraudulent listing. I ended up getting an authentic 183 from the MAC freestanding store on Newbury Street in Boston and use the fake 182 for blending.
