I too have mixed feelings... I have some eyeshadows that I LOVE and some that I NEVER touch....They're blushes are to DIE for!

Love Nars' lip lacquers, velvet matte pencils, and blushes, but I find their eyeshadows are kind of hit or miss. I have a few eyeshadows duos and a single in my collection. Some of their shadows are difficult to blend or have little to no color payoff--on my NC 50 skin. After hearing the raves about this brand, I was disappointed with the quality of some of their products.

I'll stick with Mufe (and sometimes Mac) for eye shadows.

I always stay away from NARS shadows which are too sparkly.. I always have issues with the sparkles which to me are way too big and obvious, imo.

The blushes are great, but you need a delicate hand or you look like a caricature.

I love their blushes (obviously who doesn't). But I have to agree with you on the e/s. While its not obviously not terrible quality, it's certainly not the best across the board. For those prices, I expect MAC/MUFE quality or at the very least near that quality. No they are not all bad, but they're definitely not all great.

The lippies. I've bought 2 lacquers and 1 lipstick and I just cannot get over that plastic smell. Yuck! Great colors though.

I'll continue to buy their blushes and occasionally give their other products a try, but I do not consider it one of the best lines (outside of blush). I think MAC, MUFE, Chanel,UD, Dior, YSL and others kicks Nars ass to be honest. And I wish they would change their packaging to a glossy black. I shouldn't have to constantly clean off my packaging. It can be hard for me to find the time to clean my brushes, much less my actual makeup!

And I also use the UDPP + Paint combo. The UDPP holds it there forever and the Paint makes blending easier. On top of that, I usually start with a wash of Arena to make blending easier. Works great for all my shadows from all brands!

It seems like the quality of their duo e/s are not as good as the single ones. Has anybody else noticed that?

third, thanks L1LMAMAJ for creating this thread (and everyone else who answered) because i myself was about to purchase my first nars shadow the other day and now i'm kind of glad nordstrom was of stock on it because when i swiped it, the payoff wasn't as good as i had hoped. now my thoughts are confirmed.

I agree I think just because someone is not raving about something..hey that's not hate!..people are allowed to voice their opinions and disagree.
freedom of speech is way different than hate.

Im not very impressed with their shadows either.
Granted i only have two, but considering what i payed for them, and how often i use them, i doubt i would buy any more.
I have night porter and Galapagos. In both cases the glitter doesnt show up at all (especially on galapagos). It's too bad cause in the pan they are to freakin die for!!

The blushes however, i love.
I have a lipgloss and like it too, although its a bit goopy.

I still dont buy from NARS often. 28$ CAD for a blush is just too much.

Hmmmm, I have to say that I'm sort of shocked by people claiming that Nars is unblendable, especially over MAC. About a year ago I completely switched over to Nars eyeshadows, my MAC generally is left to the sidelines.

And I have a ton of Nar, lol! Certainly, I agree that there are a several of Nars shadows/duos that are less pigmented and harder to blend, but generally I find that their shadows are nicely pigmented, more natural looking (I find that they "melt" onto the eyelid), and easier to use.

I agree with Elecktra, Nars is for the grown up woman. I say this because instead of doing intense "looks" as I did when I was younger (spending much more time on my makeup), Nars is perfect for a woman on the go. I generally use a single shade or two, a little highlighter, and I'm ready to go eye wise. Because they are so pigmented and easier to blend, you can achieve the look your going for much quicker.

I admit that I do use the more metallic shades the most (ie. the green side of Habanara is the bomb, the blonde side of Indian Summer is my HG at the moment, and I was a huge fan of Night Life last winter as a single shade on the lids, paired with a little red lipstick.). I especially like to use their cream eyeshadows as a base for a evening look, intensifying the above looks.

The Nars products that I'm not such a fan of are their lipglosses, the lip tints, and their eye liners (if anyone has a idea to make them not smudge as much, please let me know).

But their blushes, loose powders, and eyeshadows are definitely my favorite over any brand.

I agree, but it doesn't bother me that much. I have three Nars blushes (deep throat, sin and desire) and I think I might get at least one more. I prefer MAC's blush packaging over Nars by far but the nars blushes are really pigmented

This just proves that it's different strokes for different folks

I like my blush to be buildable because I'm a noob at applying it and have been wearing a really light blush for the longest time which is why some NARS blushes scare me. The NARS SA put orgasm on my cheeks the other week and I felt like a clown, it was SUPER obvious and she only swiped the blush once and she tapped off some excess. I do have some NARS but I'm super careful with the application whereas with my YSL one I can apply blindly and it still looks ok.

like u, i used to be intimidated with pigmented blushes! i like to build it up to but i find that if you use a super duper light hand with the NARS blushes, u can also build the color up with them! good luck! i <3 NARS blushes!

I agree, I use a large powder brush to apply my Nars blushes and it works for me

Nars is a brand that I would only buy if I really needed the product and would be upset if I didn't get it. It's really expensive, but of the ones I have purchased from this brand, I wouldn't trade them or give them away.

I also find that adding primer on the lid helps intensify color and make it last longer, but it does make the color stiffer and harder to blend. What's the lesser of two evils? I definitely try to wear as little primer as I can get away with.

I have the grenadines eyeshadow and the island fever duo as far as their eyeshadows go and I love them both. I'm very patient when it comes to applying make up and usually I am more careful with treating my face when I have it on, so my results may be different from other people's. My eyeshadows fade a little bit by the end of the day, but I never really had to re-apply it unless it was a day that I really had to care about it. All in all, they're not too bad if you get the right shadows for your needs. The price is just a bit steep.

It's true they have been reformulating their shadows...I am not a fan of the ones with the large chunky glitter...but I do like the ones with a veluxe pearl texture to them.

I think that NARS eyeshadows need to applied with a fairly dense brush and patted on in a rolling motion for more intensity. I'll even use my fingers to blend and soften the edges sometimes. It's easy to overblend NARS shadows. The Night series eyeshadows definitely need a creamy base to allow the sparkles to stick.

Another tip I would suggest is wetting your brush for more intensity. Yes, the shadows can be used wet or dry!

Yes you do have to apply NARS differently than you do MAC.
And I love that I can wet my eyeshadows use them as a liner and not ruin it completely

I've never have tried NARS e/s so it's great to see feedback from everyone.

How can you compare different brands and textures? Just because the name is the same doesn't mean they are anything alike?!
And this is one that Mac has annoyed me on since people will make this mistake thinking they are anything alike because they share a name and similar color family.

I only have a few Nars e/s but I don't apply them the way I apply my MAC e/s. MAC is good for packing it on with brushes and for everyone to see that you have on makeup. Nars is for looking naturally beautiful, and using your fingers is the best method. It's just a different vision/vibe, so you apply them differently. Neither is better or worse.

Nars blush is KING. Period.

Lipsticks are hit or miss. But I'm not a lipstick person, so...

This is a good thread--gets people's opinions out there...

I sort of agree on this, I use mostly MAC but more and more when I go out I find peers are using Chanel/NARS/Dior, now this works for them since they can find all their products at these companies, but I'm dark skin so I'm pretty locked into MAC or MUFE (which is my personal dislike brand)

MAC is more expensive pound for pound -- the only problem I have with NARS is that they use so much glitter which is not the looks I usually create.

I do so love Blondie tho.. I have a few backups.

I think that every cosmetics company has its hits and misses.Personally i adore Nars and obviously not everyone will feel the same.Because we all have different tastes, different styles different, and certain things for some can be holy grail items and for others it can be on there worst product ever list lol For me just like you dont like Nars i really dont like Smashbox.

But i will admit there are a few Nars products that i really dislike too.Number 1. is Nars Body Glow i hated it.It looked gorg in the bottle, smelled lovely but applied invisible, grrr! lWhats the point? Though thats not really makeup. Also i bought the Nars 9 Liquid Liner Brush and its quite rough which i hate since its for your eyes, but again thats not a makeup product either.Ok got one,im not a big fan of the Nars Liquid liner because for 1.I think its to thick so it can be pretty hard to apply a clean line and also it takes forever to dry.So if you have a even the slightest hooded lid dont you dare blink for a good few minutes at least or you ill destroy your entire look and have to start allover again! .And it would be nearly impossible for anyone with older eyes to use imo.So yeah im not really a fan of that,i do own it and i will use it because well it just cost way to much to just chuck it.But i dont know if i would ever purchase it again.Well perhaps when my skills are at a more advanced level i might

But my fav NARS product ever is my Nars e/s in Nepal,i can never be without! Its my perfect light shimmery but not too shimmery pink. On my lazy days just a wash of nepal and some mascara and my eyes are gorgeous.

I love NARS blushes...But honestly that is about all for me as well...Everyone has a preference and it's okay not to like a certain product just because everyone else seems to

I have soooo many MAC items, esp. e/s!! I pick up my small amount of Nars more. It does seem like the Nars line has more of those "I looked everywhere for a specific shade of x" or "I need a HG product that does x" types of products. So while I would love to own all of Nars, the few things I do have are perfect for me and get used everyday, if that makes sense. And considering Nars comes out being cheaper in the end, I find it hilarious that I own as much MAC as I do. MAC is good for certain things, but Nars is great too. In fact I only buy from these two lines (with the exception of foundation).

other people make it look so gorgeous but no matter how hard i try, i just can't seem to make it work for me. when i use MAC, everything is lovely and blended but not for NARS. what am i doing wrong? is NARS a hit or miss? your thoughts?

I hear you, yesterday, i tried to use the "Night Flight" eyeshadow (dark navy blue) over benefit's tattle tale (pearlish white cream eyeshadow)to brighten it up, instead of getting a blue colour, it turned out grey!!
and when used alone, it looked black; i stumbled upon your post after typing "nars" on the search engine, as i was wondering if i did something wrong, or if there is a different way of wearing the colour without changing it. I guess Nars is just not for me.
