I do admit that I think the media has a love affair with him (another topic for another day) but DAMN he is the president of our country! This is HIS day. He is a celebrity today!

I wish him well and hope he leads our country in a positive direction! Republican, Democrat, Independent, whatever, we need to support our president. Whether we voted for him or not, he is our country's leader.

I was here today. I didn't vote for him, but at the same time the president always deserves respect regardless of political affiliation, unpopular decisions, or personal problems. We may have differences of opinions, but at the end of the day we're still Americans, and that's a strong uniting factor.

That said, DC was freezing, but it was worth it. I was here for Clinton's inauguration in '96 and again for Bush's second in '04; neither of those were nearly as memorable as this one.

I wish him luck. Whoever inherited this situation had their work cut out for them, and he's going to need all the well-wishings he can get.

I was offered a ticket through my internship (I work in a fed. politicians' office), and almost turned it down because I thought DC was going to be mobbed. But then I thought about it and asked myself what would I tell my kids in 10 years- that I turned down a ticket to one of the most historic events of the decade because there were so many people?

I was in a car with my mentor a few hours later driving down I-95. I'm glad I made that decision.

Though you probably saw more of it than I did. I was close enough where we didn't need the monitors, but half the time I was blocked by another politician's security guy. I'm still catching up on all of it from the CNN and CSPAN feeds.

I am proud that a good man with good values got elected no matter what his skin color.

Yeah, I can't even begin about how irritated I get when people expect me to have something special to say or some unique perspective because of that. I am aware of what it means to many people, but then again, I just don't feel that it's that it's even relevant to how he can do his job. Then again I just remind myself, it could be because I don't understand what they've gone through and how impossible of a dream it seemed for them.
Anyway, I think overall the most important thing is I voted based on my beliefs.

Not trying to be rude or argue. But this comment is childesh. Honeymoon over? Trendy Celebrity? No one is worshiping anyone.

People look at him with bright hopeful eyes.. becasue we HOPE that perhaps he can bring America back to the strong country WE once were.

Obama was never in the tabloids the way Sarah Palin and John McCain were during the election, so to me They would be a closer comparison to " trendy celebrity"

He is our President, Whats done is done- It is what it is- No matter what your vote was. The honeymoon may be over but Our long future together is just begining...

^I agree, that comment was pretty childish and unnecessary. Here we are celebrating a new President and new hope for our country, and some people (for whatever reason) feel the need to chime in with these little sarcastic comments that contribute nothing to the conversation. *sigh*

Anyways! Really wish I could have been there, but it just wasn't feasible for me. Glad your mom and sister were able to experience it, Tish!

I was watching from 3000 miles away and jumping about.
I loved his speech but I also loved the fact Malia was sat there with a camrea filming her Daddy and that just was so heartwarming! Not a big flashy camera either, a nice little one

Very down to earth.

His speech was amazing, I wish I was there!

At this time, I am so proud to be applying for a visa in the USA. I think he will bring a great change, I cant wait!!

i got on the DC metro at exactly 4am.

rode to the Mall. Sat in line for about 2 hours, with my ticket. Then had to stand for another 2 hours. By then, my feet were pretty much dead lol. I couldn't feel them at all. I was so miserable, but i refused to get out of line. I just had to tough it out.

Went thru TSA, ran to the front, had an amazing view...took lots of pics. cried lots of frozen tears. celebrated. rejoiced. soaked up the moment.

the scene was insane.

i have some pics...i can post them if thats allowed in here..

I'm so tickled for everyone who got to attend the Inauguration in person and witness history. I took the day off and watched via the boob-tube with my Pop. Ironically my father was born on the eve of the last great depression, so he has been down this path before and hopes we won't have to experience that bit of history again.

I alternated between jubilation, tears and acute awareness of the gravity of the problems facing this country. As others have stated, we need to support the president and hope for a successful presidency, as so much is riding on it. I hope for all of our sakes, Obama is a wise leader and his presidency marks a return to better days for all of us soon.

First and foremost Im absolutely proud as punch!

Youre not being rude youre right on about that post. I dont think everyone is "looking" at him like a celebrity. Most mobs of ppl when they see celebrities usually have a look of lunacy in their eyes imo i.e. "will you sign this that and the other". To me no one really looked crazed, but after the last 8 years finally hopeful!

I sat at work and watched the CNN live feed. And got upset when anyone actually expected me to do 'work' lol!

It was such a moment. His speech was phenomenal. I listened to it again on NPR this evening, and really soaked it all in. It was strong, resolved, humble, respectful and wonderfully written.

I am so glad I was able to see this event, and take part, even in some small way.

The parade was my favorite part of the day. There was so much unity and love coming from the streets...everyone was on cloud nine for this moment in time.

Did anyone else notice all the younger children that were taking part in the events of the day? I am glad we are teaching our children about current events instead of thinking they are too young to care about these things.

I think some of the children were more excited than the adults!

I am proud that a black man got elected, but at the same time, I really don't think it's that big of a deal. I think putting the emphasis on race and making it a big deal is kind of backwards. But then again I'm white and I haven't known the struggles of others

Go Obama!!

Zabbazooey, none of us are transparent you know. It'd be totally irrational not to note the fact that Obama is half black with an african american wife and black children. If you're an american then you no doubt KNOW that it was only our parents (my parents I'm in my 30's) that actually experienced legal segregation. Obama's election is Historic in every since of the word. There's no need to play that down. We really should be proud of that. because this kinda never happens in a democracy that a majority population elects a minority ESPECIALLY with a past like this nation has had. It'd be like saying 20 years in the future there would be a palestinian prime minster of a multi cultural isreal....
or hell.. a jewish prime minister of germany.. just doesn't happen like that very often.

America has a black president girlfriend.. embrace it!

It simply means that as a country we are making progress

Thats a good thing right?
