Inauguration

I watched the ceremony at work via CNN live feed. I was happy to see Obama elected and I agree with everyone that his speech was great. He had many good references in it...the speech was definitely very well thought out. It must have been a great day to be in the mall and celebrate
smiles.gif
There's no way we'll ever have something like that in Canada...

On another note, I also agree with Shimmer. I understand ppl are happy to have change but I really hope Obama doesn't disappoint them. I mean they were showing ppl in Africa a couple of weeks ago on TV saying they thought Obama was gonna save them! I was in D.C for the holiday and it seemed like Obama became a brand before he even became president.

At the end of the day, a politician is a politician. I'm not saying this to be negative, just something I always keep in the back of my mind...

I am not an American but I am a huge supporter of President Barack Obama. I think it is very important to participate and to know what's been going on in the USA right now because the whole world is affected of the Global crisis. Obama will be facing so many challenges and to be honest I am quite sorry for the guy because we all know that the problems he will be facing is tough !
I watched the inauguration and I was up until 3 am. Then, when I woke up this morning, I tuned in to CNN and watch more of him again. I don't want to miss his speech and the historical event. He was calm, positive and strong with his words. Michelle looked great and Sasha and Milia was just too cute. They are an image of a wonderful family.
I really hope that Obama can fix the economy and create plenty of jobs for our friends in the USA. God bless America.

p.s.
i even ordered 3 Obama t-shirts yesterday for myself, hubby and my boy
smiles.gif

Just want to add :

So many people are looking up to Obama as if he is their Saviour and their hero. I just want to say that he is not superman and he can't fix every problems that GWB created in just one click. He is a human being and people should know and understand that it would take time to change America. Just my two cents...

I support the man, and I pray to God he can take the mantle of leadership and wear it well and serve this nation and give us what we need...but I'm not looking at him with worshipful eyes and positively ecstatic that we just have someone different in office.

I'm being realistic in my expectations of him and his presidency, and quite honestly, I can't see anything wrong with that.
Yesterday was to celebrate, today is to work. I'm looking forward to the work...but God help him if he doesn't deliver what everyone is expecting him to deliver.

Im glad your being realistic. I think Obama is being realistic as well. He didnt promise change would come in a day or even a year. Change takes time. But he is going to push us in the direction of change. He hasnt made any crazy promises or guarentees.

Hope, Hype. Whatever. Not the same thing. I am hopeful as all of us should be- that He is now in a position that he can getus out of this mess our country is currently in.

No matter WHO was elected president I think people would still be celebrating in hopes of change. We dont look at him with worshiping eyes. We realize that we as a people have no control and there is nothing we as americans can do without a good leader. We look at him with wish and hope for the future but no, we do not worship.

Speak for yourself.

I, personally, have an Obama bobble-head that I pray to, and 'feed' three drops of blood into a candle that burns before him, every night...

....doesn't everyone?

For serious. It *IS* a new day, in every sense of the words.

The reason, also, that people who may not be politically inclined respect and idolize Obama in ways that they haven't in the past (8 years at least)..is because of what he represents.
He is someone who is intellectual, cultured, well-read and those qualities in themselves GREATLY change the stereotype of the "typical American" that we see over here in the majority of our media. Bush completely supported that stereotype, albeit inadvertantly...but he did.
While we will have to wait and see (but i have hope!!) as to whether those qualities I mentioned equate a great President, they certainly provide a refreshingly solid basis for a character who at once demands respect and promotes reason.

i love obama.

like, foreal. he's down to earth, and i've loved him ever since i saw him speak at the DNC in 04.

i have never ever seen a political figure get this much love. like, yesterday at the parade people were running after his motorcade on some Michael Jackson shit. it was unbelievable. the screaming was non-stop, it was just....mouth dropping. he's like a celebrity, but the most powerful one. i saw so many celebs this weekend and did not give a hot damn about any of them, i just wanted to see Obama raise his right hand. and i did
greengrin.gif
this means the world to me. America has officially changed for the better.

Obama will fuck up and make mistakes. He's human, duh. Anybody thinking he wont is either slow or born last week. He wont be a perfect president. At ALL! None of them are, but he at least has the common sense to push us in a better direction and thats why i love him. He's smart. He's not a Bush. A Nixon. I dont have to talk about how important this is to us history-wise because i think we all get that, at least i hope we all understand that. But yo, after 8 years of FAIL, I'm happy to have a man in office i consider to be MY president--who has a brain.

I dont think its about "being happy for any new president" because i'm sorry, even if Al Sharpton became the president, that would be a hot crock of bullshit and only 98 people would have shown up for his Inauguration...there's something about Obama. you can ask random supporters "why do you love obama so much" and they usually say "i dunno, its just something about him".

I dont think anybody is hyping anything, and if they are thats on them. Obama didnt ask for it. But because he's the first black president, people are cashing in and there's an "obama-mania" that will soon subside. but as of right now, i'm swimming in the moment

Well said, MissResha! I love the man too, and I'm so happy he's our president. And of course, I'm not expecting him to wave a magic wand and instantly fix the woes of the world, but like you said he's pushing the country in the right direction, away from the BS the last 8 years have been about. And for that I am grateful, hopeful, but still realistic. I'm also happy to have someone in that white house with a brain and common sense. *phew*
sigh.gif

But you're right, if it were Al Sharpton, I'd be running for the border LOL!

i also wanted to say that i really really love how he puts a lot of the responsibility of this country succeeding into OUR hands. this is the first president who uses the internet for transparency and gives us access to what the hell he's up to and doing. He doesnt go around with a big dick saying "Ohhh im president i get to do what i want!" like Bush did. Bush did what he wanted, did not listen to the people. Obama listens to the people. Palin teased him for being a community organizer, but look how it helped him. And screw that trollup, btw. but anyway, Obama will say "I will do this but i need YOUR help". He makes you want to love your country again, he makes you want to make a difference. thats what i love about him. he's the shit, period. Human yes, but still, very much the shit haha.

^ lol... agreed!

And they were saying that on one of the news stations yesterday.. that all the repubs were talking shit on him being a community organizer, but that it will end up being a huge strength on his part.

Wait are you serious! Are you any generational relation to the white witch of Haiti? I know some specialist tried exercising her from the premise of a hotel and she still remains.

So, let me see what has our new president has done today:

1. Drafted a proposal to close GITMO in 1 year.
2. Put a stop to all prosecutions of GITMO detainees, to access whether persons held are actually prosecutable after being tortured or if they knew anything at all (yes, you heard it, we tortured in America and it is shameful and there is teenager in there, who know nothing, research and you will see it is true).
3. Freeze all wages for his staff because they shouldn't get a raise unless they do their jobs and while others are struggling.
4. Prohibit all branch employees from accepting gifts from lobbyist and if fired can't come to lobby washington on his watch.
5. Oh, and get the confirmation of the woman who has the most international respect and street cred., Mrs. Hillary Rodham Clinton, who placed 18 million cracks in the ceiling for all women and the young girls who will come after her.

Hmm, seems like someone is living up to campaign promises, but give him time like some say, I'm sure he will be a disappointment but give him at least 6months until we start talking about it, jeez.

Forget out his shrine, can someone get me a piece of Michelle's hair, fabric of that lemongrass inaugural dress, and the color of her lipstick because I want to worship her.

See, now I can't tell if *you're* being serious!

No, I'm not. I didn't even think that my comment could be misconstrued, or be inadvertently offensive to some.

I was more making light of the sentiment out there saying that supporters of Obama 'worship' him.
