since im only gettin lavender whip and a pearlmatte i think im going to get 4 lavender whips. Is that too many? lol i just love my purple and if i fall in love iwant to make sure im fully stocked. I dont touch my playtime lipstick because im afraid its gonna finish. i dont want this to happen with lavender whip :(
That's not too many, especially if you love the color! I have 4 backups of a lippie, because I love the color so much and I actually wear it all the time. Happy hauling :)

For those who are warm and pale, would Lavender Whip be unsuitable? Would it simply require a cooler toned blush paired with it?

I really really want the pearlmattes. Although I'm going to have to stop buying those soon.

I already have all 3 of the Skinfinish Mineralize ones from last year, and then a backup of Whisper of Guilt, plus 1 each of the Veronica and Betty ones. But I really really love their highlighters! Plus I can use them for eyeshadows if they don't work as highlighter/bronzer on me.

Curious question from a Specktra Newbie Does anyone consider it gauche to collect more then one back up of a highly sought after LE item? I couldn't bear to buy more then one BU of something I adored because it feeds EvilBay, leaves less for others, and there will always be more lovely colors coming along. For those of you who do, do you care or do you figure the onus is on MAC for not producing enough? Curious me :)

I have never backed up any make up -- I always think yes, I love it but I'll love something else next month even more.

I don't like the look of the pearlmattes, even less so than the Archie's ones (I ended up grabbing both, but haven't used them yet), I may just skip these ones so I can keep my stash under control!

I'm for sure getting Lavender Whip, but not sure about the other lipsticks. The "white" in the description is off-putting for me. I love the name Raspberry Swirl, though.

This may be a light haul, which is good because I think Extra Dimension is going to take my wallet and run.

I only buy BUs of things i feel sure i'm actually going to use up. And unless it's something i'm likely to wear quite often and it's a truly unusual color, i don't see a reason to get more than 2 of any lipstick.

I have BUs of Go for It and Flaunting It and i'm trying to get BUs of Aristo-Cat and Firm Form. In the past 15 years, I've only ever finished 2 lipsticks, but i tend to wear a different lipstick every day. Only two of my MAC lipsticks have gone rancid and both i bought in the mid-1990s, so they lasted almost 20 years.

Other people have just a few lipsticks they really love and wear nearly every day, so i can see they could need more than one or two BUs. If you really think you're going to wear Lavender Whip nearly every day...

Pearlmattes, Mineralize Skinfinishes, and Extra Dimensional Skinfinishes are all quite different from each other in texture, finish, and use. Naturally, how and where one can wear them depends on one's skin color and the color and finish of any particular powder.

-- Pearlmattes - tend to be rather hard and dry, tend not to deliver high color payoff (and are not meant to), have sheen but no glitter, and are meant to be worn on much of the face as a finishing powder. Depending on their finish - how much sheen they have - and the skin color and tone of the user, they may be better used as a highlighter, but they tend to be more subtle than MSFs and EDSFs.

-- MSFs - generally have noticeable soft texture (a few even feel a bit chunky or crumbly), are highly colored, and have more shimmer and some are even glittery. I find i cannot wear most of them anywhere other than my cheeks - either as blush, highlighter, or contour - although those that are more neutral, such as Lightscapade, i can wear on more areas of my face. Few MSFs are what i would consider subtle.

-- EDSFs - have a very very very smooth texture with something of a gel-like base, are not glittery but rather metallic, and are not subtle, but not necessarily highly colored. If used with a light hand EDSFs can highlight cheeks, brow bones, and some other places on the face, although i wouldn't use them as a finishing powder all over my face because of their metallic sheen.

Also, in my experience i need a different brush for each type of powder.

-- Pearlmattes - because they're hard and dry and without strong color payoff, i use a dense brush to pick up more powder and dust it on more places.

-- MSFs - since they are more powdery or crumbly and deliver a lot of color payoff, i prefer my MAC 188 small stippling brush (others may use the larger 187), so i don't pick up too much powder and so i can control exactly how much i get on my face - i don't want too much, because of the high color and shimmer/glitter.

-- With EDSFs, because of their very fine gel-like texture, can be a bit tricky to pick up, so i prefer my MAC 130 brush, which is duo-fibre like the 188 and 187 but denser, so i can get more powder up, but still control where and how much i get on my face.

How many of each kind of powder i want to buy depends on how i am using each and how often i will wear them. How safe they are on the eyes is variable: erine1881 said EDSFs are not eye-safe; Pearlmattes won't deliver much on the eyes...

As far as I see it, it's my money and if I want to buy multiple back ups of products I love then it's my business alone.

Totally just did a TON of catch up. I am so excited about the way the PMs look! I absolutely love my AG PMs, and use one every day to smooth out blush or wear as a base for my blush. I will definitely be getting these. I cant wait to see what the other products will look like

I no longer have a lot of lipsticks since i sold most of them because i just want to stay with ones i have no problem walking out everyday with. Out of my lipstick stash i have only 2 permanent colors and no backups of anything. I looove purple lipsticks but i only buy the ones that i like and would suit my skintone/lip colors without putting much effort. If lavender whip is like that then i will surely buy backups. Im starting to realize having backups of lipsticks i wear a lot is better than having gazillion lipsticks i'll only touch once in a blue. Lol

I think if you either plan on actually using them, or passing them along to friends who missed out on the sale [online, or in person], for the cost that the product was w/o making a profit, then it's fine.
I bought a back up of each of the two Archie Girls lipsticks I bought, because I knew people in RL who missed out and I wanted to see if they wanted them. Most people were working when the colors restocked, so I figured if no one in RL wanted them, someone online who missed out could at least have an opportunity to grab them!
The other thing is, if you end up selling it on ebay, well really, that's your business. We live in a capitalist society. It's bound to happen and I honestly can't say I blame people for selling stuff on there. I've done it in the past. That said, I don't think hoarding items with the intent to just sell on ebay is fair, and I personally would not do that. To Me, ebay is for selling extras of things that I ended up with. When I was younger, I didn't see things that way though.
I don't think it feeds ebay to buy extras if you actually will use the product. I ended up buying a back up of Whisper of Guilt because I realized that I genuinely do consider it an HG product and would really like to have another.
If you find you aren't going to use it, then just pass it along to a friend/sell it on here for the cost.
I do think MAC should product more of their products, but they're probably doing that on purpose.

Thank you for the break down! I was wondering how they differed, but my google searches were not very helpful. That makes a lot more sense. So at least I don't have to feel so bad about having the different powders, since they literally are for different things entirely!

I use my EDSF' with my ELF Powder brush, or my bare minerals one and it works really well. I haven't tried out the PearlMattes yet though. I'll have to test those out today and see how they work out on my skintone. The description on the site says they can be used as blush or eyeshadow, so I'm going to play around with them a bit and see how it goes. =]

The pearlmatte powders say that they can be used as eyeshadows, on the description on the MAC site.

As far as the Extra Dimension ones, I've been using Glorify and Superb as eyeshadows for the past year. It never really occurred to me that they wouldn't be safe. So I'll have to check into that one and make sure.
