MAC - Dare To Wear Discussion

I went this morning I went to both a MAC f/s store and MAC Pro. I ended up with:
Sassy Grass ( I may want to back this up. I've NEVER backed up a shadow in my life!)
Lime (PRO pan)

Gimmie That
Bold & Brash

The lip glosses are lovely! Seriously! If you can get one I would! A lot of the other colors I already had or I can get them in pan form at any PRO or f/s store. The only reason I got Lime on this trip is the MUA at the f/s was wearing it with Sassy Grass and she looked awesome!!! Lime was never on my original list. It swatches nicely and behaves well. Shock-o-holic was a disappointment. It doesn't swatch well. I get better color pay off from MUFE#92. For anyone that has MUFE#72 give Zingy a skip! If you don't I would suggest you pick this color up. Yes it's a matte but it has great payoff and is in no way chalky. That's my 2 cents for all its worth.

some eyeshadows don't swatch very well, but when it goes down to doing your makeup it might work better with a base under? i was trying to swatch my nyx st. lucia palette (matte-semi matte satin textures) and i couldn't swatch it properly at all, but when i used them in a look, they colors really poped. so maybe this is the case with these eyeshadows? im gonna go have a look today and will report back~

just saw this collection. i only came back with going bananas.

c-shock is one of my favorite collection from mac and this one just doesn't compare. maybe because i'm not really a matte fan that much.

the standout colors in this one are: going bananas, louder please, and sassy grass.
sassy grass is crayon green. it's pretty, different than bio green, wondergrass, or other mac greens imho.

louder please is more red than pink. it's pretty too.

the textures swatched horribly on me, so then, i tried patting, and it was better but i just couldn't fork over the money for them. maybe i'll try swapping or looking in the clearance bin later for them for lower than retail.

all others were a fail (besides atlantic blue and going bananas of course).

lip stuff was very glittery. bold and brash was my favorite.

I haven't wiped my hand off yet, and I'm sitting here thinking about whether or not I will go back and get Crazy Cool. It's much cooler than Beautiful Iris on my skin, and the MAC MA agreed. She said she went for Crazy Cool for the look she was wearing but it was too cool on her so she pick BI instead. She said if she had to pick between the two, she'd choose BI. So I'm thinking CC is a "nice to have" rather than a "must have" like the others I ordered on Tues. I think I'm going to hit up Sephora tomorrow and check out some Illamasqua matte shadows, as I still haven't found the light purple/lavender/lilac I am looking for...*sigh*

I was talking to the MA when I went today and he was saying if I had a hard time blending that they would work really well over a non-matte base. He might have just been trying to sell more stuff though

Which is pointless on any salesperson's part when it comes to me--I go in knowing what I want and I rarely sway from that.

If Aqua was LE, I would have gotten that one, but since it's PRO, I am going to wait on it. And I am still contemplating Crazy Cool. The texture was great, and it's a great color. It looks pretty different from Beautiful Iris on my hand, but I am not sure if the difference would be that apparent on the eye. BI is more pink because of the pink duochrome, whereas CC looks like it has more of a silverish cast if that makes sense. I may go back for that one.

Wait till you see Her Alter Image -- like BI but with a gorgeous opalescence -- I wasn't particularly impressed with CC

Back with my haulage!

First off, the MUA helping me did a comparison of Zingy and Electric Eel for another customer. Zingy is more pigmented than Electric Eel and also I felt has a bit smoother application. It's also more bright and electric, while Electric Eel is a bit more subdued. Honestly, I was really tempted to get Zingy, but I keep thinking about that bright blue from HerGreyness's Wonder Woman testers and might rather get that. It's all up to do I want that color in matte or in a sparklier finish (and if there's Wonder Woman packaging, which would be really cute).

Second, I got to the store an hour after it opened and my MUA was telling me that there were a bunch of people waiting at the door before they opened and they'd already sold about 5 of each color of the lipglosses. Gimme That! was so far the most popular color (all the female MUAs in the store were wearing it, so I bet that helped). He was happy they were blowing out the door, because this formula needs plenty of love! All they had was one box of them and it didn't look like there'd be any left by the weekend.

Third, this is what I hauled:
Gimme That! x 2 (was only going to get 1 but it was so fantastic on, I decided on a back up)
Bold & Brash x 2 (this one is seriously the best red lip product I've seen in ages. It looks a little meh in the tube, because it's hard to see the pink shimmer, but it makes you go DAAAAMN when you put it on. I always planned on 2 of these and it is 100% a gorgeous red that will look good on many different skin tones.)
Ban This! (only got 1 and I hope I don't run out before these return, it's also glorious)

Did not get Dare to Dare because it reminded me too much of the pale pink lip gelee from Lilyland. It's actually prettier than that gelee, but it was too similar for me to justify. So Bad was nice, but again, not dissimilar to some other lip shades I have and I prefer non-sparkly corals on me, since coral is a little tricky for me to pull off just in general. Wind Me Up was honestly pretty groovy and could totally work into the fall, but I think I just wanted the most sci fi, crazy colors in this collection so more subtle shades were just less eye-catching. On the right skin tone (cool and dark), I think it would look sexy hot and futuristic.

How do the glosses wear? Fucking excellently! I had on Gimme That! for about an hour, then had a latte in one of those thick sided mugs plus a salad and at the end of my lunch it was ALL there minus whatever was on the innermost surfaces of my lips. Hadn't budged and hadn't even changed glossiness. Very impressive. Now it's about 4 hours in and it's still fine without a touch up. This is very good since I want these to last a long time before they run out!

The texture when applied feels pretty unusual. Less like a gloss and more like a smooth, whipped sensation. Honestly, it reminds me of this special medical cream I got once when I had a bad burn lol. However, even with this light mousse texture, it goes on shiny with a moist gloss texture - not a patent leather, vinyl, ultra-wet look shine, though. In direct sunlight, the individual sparkles are apparent, but in indoor light and shade, it looks more two-tone, rather than glittery. After all these hours of wear, the texture hasn't changed much, might feel a little drier on the lips, but even still it pretty much feels like I'm wearing maybe a cremesheen or lustre lipstick now; not bad at all.

I suppose I should have just put this all in the review section, since this post is enormous now

These Dare To Wear lipglosses are great, though. I'm going to think of them as lip souffle more than gloss and I am gonna love them and wear them every damn day until I get scared and start rationing!

came back from the counter. a little disappointed, i have to say. i thought i was going to get shock-a-holic, but it didn't swatch very well and it's a little darker and a lot more reddish that i thought. so i only got sassy grass. it's very pretty, but it's quite similar to landscape green pigment. although SS is a little lighter and more yellow green than LG pigment. i'll try taking a picture

the lipglosses are nice, but they are VERY thick and sticky. so i bought 1 to try

The red gloss looks so divine! Damn for it being sticky and thick, I will prolly hate wearing it unless I look at the mirror all the time!
cutey.gif
But, I think I should give it a chance.

Wait are these lipglasses popping up later on in another collection? Someone alluded to that.

What I do now is I grab a primer at a Mac counter and put it on the back of my hand and then swatch a shadow. That shows me a more accurate way of what the shadow will look like.

I'm seriously thinking about backing up Bold & Brash. It's seriously perfect.

You should give it a try. I don't find it to be thick at all. It sits very comfortably on my lips. I find it tacky when I rub my lips together, but I only do that when applying lip colors. This is coming from someone who has no problems with lipgalss, though.

Yeah I shouldn't try to fight it - I'm weak!

If I got used to lipglass and dazzleglass there's hope for this one too!

Btw, it looked gorgeous on you!!

Ooooh, that's right. Yeah I will wait for that one... I am looking foward to the other purple shadows from the VV collection too. I think I am done hauling with this collection after all. Sassy Grass is amazing though and definately worth every penny. My MA was wearing it with Lime today too, and it was such an awesome combo!

they're sticky if you swatch it on your hand, but on the lips they're way less sticky than lipglass, dazzleglass and even the cremesheen glasses.

they are thick in a weird way - like mousse or fluffy cake frosting, but they're so opaque really the best way to apply them would be put a little on the center of your lips with the applicator, then use a brush to spread them evenly and thinly out from the center. Once they're on the lips, they feel more like you're wearing lipstick than lip gloss.

So excited to go out after work (and admittedly a little paranoid that something I want will sell out). Just gotta kill another 15 minutes, then I'll be busy enough to kill the last half hour. *drums fingers impatiently*

I'm very pleased with them, especially after being ultimately disappointed with the superglasses I tried.

I bought Ban This, Gimme That and Bold & Brash. I was only planning on buying two, but I tried on Gimme That and decided that it was, indeed, absolutely nothing like If It's Pink.

But goodness, it's bright! I'm still wearing it, but I think I needed a bit more pop on my face (I have neutral eyes and light, neutral cheeks today) to really balance it out.

As for the shadows, I only bought Sassy Grass and Going Bananas. I can pick up Lime and Atlantic Blue in pan form at the pro store, so I skipped those for now.

Plus, I've been meaning to pick up a couple more of the Sephora Urban Decay exclusive shadows. The finishes are obviously different, but I will probably get more use out of them because I find them easier to work with than MAC's mattes. And I'm thinking I may need to branch out to MUFE shadows (haven't tried any so far). I'd like some more mattes, but the MAC ones I have are trying.
