when haul-time comes around i'll be focusing on the makeup items from both the colour and "kouture" collections. i may get the brush set too, because that brush holder is beyond cute, and the purse mirror. i'm dying to know what the "kouture" items look like.

i am definitely hoping that whatever new products that will be accompanying this launch are better thought out. if what we are seeing right now is "wild kitty," "mild kitty" needs to way cuter.

I feel you. I hate what HK is wearing and I'm hoping the other products won't be the same. The accessories are HURT. I guess that's a good thing for me since I didn't want to be suckered into buying something cute just because it's MAC & it's limited edition

That HK plush looks like it's inflatable or something.

i'm not very impressed by the presentation of the products. i thought it would be cuter and i agree with what someone said above....HK isn't the same when she isn't white. i'd like to see more pictures of the products before I make my final judgments, but Im not worrying about this collection putting a huge dent in my wallet if I dont like the actual product.

For everyone complaining about lack of innovation . . . what exactly do you expect? I mean, there are only so many things you can do when it comes to makeup, especially for non-eye products. (And even then, MAC has an insane array of colors, leaving almost no stone unturned, particularly if you factor in Pro lines) There are only so many variations they can do on pink, red, orange, and brown.

I'm not criticizing the people who are noting that they see a lot of repetition, and I'm not going to buy identical products just because of pretty packaging. But when you think about it, unless you're advocating a collection of blue lipsticks and green blushes (which I would adore), there's not much more MAC can do.

PS are employee / pro discounts not applying? If that's the case I'm skipping it all. I could buy (almost) half a pair of jeans with the money I'd spend on that couture compact. No thanks.

I'm a MAC fan. I expect the moon and the stars.

Seriously, for me, its more of the appearance of the packaging and the lack of color variation. I don't know if MAC was aiming at tweenies with the colors of the makeup in this collection or the people who actually grew up in the HK era in the eighties. There is a disconnect somewhere in there. The constant reshuffling of pastels in green, pink and lavender need to take a break, and yes, I know its a spring collection. So was Barbie and they managed to bring back Mothbrown, a lovely grownup taupe and some amazing beauty powders that women of any age could wear. This collection seems of limited appeal to me, but only from what I've seen so far.

I'm not gnashing my teeth or wailing with disappointment over this collection. Every year Mac produces some hits for me and some misses. So far, for me this collection is a miss, but I'm sure I'll find the next collection up the road one that I can't live without.

Re: MAC - Hello Kitty Feb 2009 Discussion

For me it's more about MAC's trend towards commercialism, rather than putting out more products that are actually usable and geared towards makeup professionals. I would really like to see them expand their permanent line with higher quality products and improving formulations of existing stuff, or offering a wider variety of foundation colors, than investing money in gimmicky stuff like Fafi and HK. Sure, it's cute and no doubt will make a load of money, but it has really nothing to do with professional products anymore, which is what the company used to be about. I guess it's another side-effect of being purchased by Estee Lauder.

I still like MAC and will continue to buy their products, but I've def started branching out to other brands because MAC is lacking in some areas for me, and I just don't get as excited about their new collections anymore as I used to.

I still was really keen to see the HK stuff to see what they would come up with, but...meh. I guess I'll have to see it in person.

Imagine how much people are going to try to resell that swavroski crystal hello kitty compact for on Ebay! its going to be insane.

mmm hmm. Thats why I will be getting everything I want w/ this collection. I have been sucked into exorbitant ebay pricing in the past. Not this time.

We haven't seen the actual colour story yet have we? For me the jury is out until then.

I'm a little disappointed in the packaging, I would have liked a sleeker design in white. Even so I think it will be hard to resist at least one beauty powder compact.

I also agree that the commercialism is a little much. It seems like MAC churns out collections so fast that they hardly pay attention to the quality. Even a lot of the promo images have been boring and unimaginative, not like I used to remember them. But then I think maybe the way I remember them is the problem...I'm trying to compare everything to how I first felt about MAC and maybe that's where I'm going wrong, because it's like when you first hear a unique sounding song, but when you listen to it over and over again, it becomes blah. Is that how it is for us? TBH, I don't think MAC cares as much about quality as they do $$. That's the way business works. Ex: Apple has the capabilities to create a 1000GB iPod, but they won't, they're just gradually bringing nicer ones out every year so you keep having to buy a new one, b/c of course we want the coolest, nicest newest iPod. That's how MAC is- make the color slightly different, the name or packaging different and sell it again and again b/c we HAVE to HAVE that new product.

That said, I so far like the HK stuff, and I think a lot of thought has been put into how to properly execute this collection, so while many other collections lately have been a bust, perhaps this one will compensate b/c they were putting the effort into this one. Granted, not everyone is going to like the packaging, but hopefully the product is a step above what we've seen lately.

A little off topic, but . . .

A One Terabyte (1000 GB) iPod would, at the moment, cost an insane amount of money and also be gigantic. The iPods are currently using the smallest (physical) hard drives available, so a 1 TB iPod would be about 9 times larger using hard drives. Using flash memory, which has a smaller physical footprint, would be possible, but flash memory of that capacity costs thousands upon thousands of dollars.

ummm, actually there isn't any 1.8'' hard drive (which ipod uses) that would hold 1tb storage on the market right now. i think the current limit is 250GB. anything above that you can only find in the lab, under testing. right now the only type of hd with over 1tb storage is the 3.5'' ones. but those numbers chagne every couple of months

hahaha, Lord, I don't know anything about computer shiz, but what I'm saying is that there's no doubt Apple has the technology lined up for their next 5 pods and they will all be more stylish and hold more GB than the one before, but why bring out the best you have, when you can market each one, step by step, and make money off all of them? In 3 yrs I've bought 4 ipods. And my first one, the original mini, works just fine, but it's "outdated, not holding as many songs as the next, and being bulky. Ipods can now hold more GB than my entire freaking laptop, and the laptop I bought 1 1/2 yrs ago was out of date within 4 months. And by that 4 month mark, I already wanted the newer one. Mine works perfectly fine but I need to have the best, right? It's just like MAC, they just want to change up the packaging & marketing with practically the same color, and b/c it's limited, we think we have to have it. That's what I meant.

Do you guys have any suggestions of which one i should get. i know this is off topic. but to get back on to topic, do you guys think they will creat paint pots with this collection and more blushes because i do not think it is far to only come out with one blush with collection.

Chanel glossimers too! I only used dazzleglass Baby Sparks for the first time yesterday and the glitters are fantastic but it feels stickier than the glossimers. Besides, I could buy 3 glossimers with 1 dazzleglass, so I wouldn't be buying any dazzleglass from HK, which are even pricier. I still

The blush looks pretty too!

I'm guessing the Mild/Wild Kitty has the same packaging.

Did anyone notice that Kouture compact is described as silver compact with a pink bow formed by crystals. Did they mean it would actually be made of silver like the DG charms? If so, it may explain the high cost. Silver one might also be heavy for carrying around. I imagine, it would look something like Estee Lauder collectible compacts with crystals and would probably be made by the same factory that makes luxury goods. Not sure I want it but am curious to see. It will probably look like that closed black compact with pink bow, just in silver. Very simple.

they should on the colour collection only. the kouture collection will probably be discountable after a certain time, but according to the article, this collection will only be available for 8 weeks max, so i'm sure it will be sold out by then.

the products aren't of higher quality. the products are the same. the kouture dazzleglass is gonna be the same formular as the regular dazzleglass. what you're paying that extra $10.50 for is the accessories that come with it.

um, there isn't 3 times more product in the chanel. there's 3 times more weight. as this has been repeated over and over and over, cosmetics are measured in weight, not volume.

Ok, don't know if this was already touched upon (and I am not reviewing 70 pages of this thread) but in the WWD article John Demsey, group president of the Estée Lauder Cos. Inc., says “There will be more products to come in the next three months with this partnership.” What does that mean?
