Do you know when you'll be starting and which location?

I signed my paperwork today,
unfortunately no start date... i have a feeling it'll be this weekend though, cuz i over heard the manager saying that one of the girls was taking off, and needs to be replaced for the day,
other than that.. the manager only said sooner than later...Right now i'll be rotating locations, as far as I know...

I am still the laid back mother of two who doesn't wear makeup on her off days.

I still like working for MAC, but like any job it has its ups & downs.

Re: I just got Hired at MAC!!!

Ok, so update.

I had my first shift yesterday.
I didn't know whether to start a new thread, or just update this one.
I think this might be interesting for others who are starting and want to know what to expect on their first freelance shift.

Basically. no one told me anything.
I got the call saturday morning, and by saturday evening, i was doing a 5 to 10 shift.
All my associates were super friendly to me, but it was too busy in that store to say anything more than just Hi.

Soooo i jumped right in.
First, i started cleaning.... because i was a little lost and overwhelmed (all the pretty colors)...
Then i saw a customer making 'eyes' at me... that means she wanted something, lol, and I was going to get it for her.

Whee! my first sale was about 80 dollars, in my first 10 minutes.
I did not get a moment of rest for the rest of the night.

I ended up doing 4 makeup applications and 3 false eyelash applications.

I had women waiting in line for me to do their makeup...

One bad thing that happened was, right before we were closing, a woman waiting for me loved the girl's makeup that i had done on the woman ahead of her.
She wanted the same of everything, including the lashes.
When it came time to apply the lashes, i said, "you have to pay now, the store will be closing soon".... she said NOOOO! she didn't have money for that, since she was going out that night!
(I had just opened the package and put the glue on the first lash)

She had assumed I was putting on people's lashes for free, and doing their makeup for free.... :S

So... now ... i've learned about the verbal contract... and how to enforce it. lol

The shocker was, none of the girls i was working with... and there were about 8 on staff that night, none of them knew i was NEW!!!

They all thought I had worked at another store or counter before.

They gave me a standing ovation at the end of the night, when my manager told them it was my very first night.

Re: I just got Hired at MAC!!!

That's so awesome that you were able to jump right in and blend with the more seasoned employees! That shows you totally belong there. I have my interview and demo coming up this Wednesday and I keep going back and forth from being like ultra excited to insanely nervous to the point of feeling nauseous LOL.

Re: I just got Hired at MAC!!!

Freelancing with MAC is among the craziest things I've ever done, especially at first. There's absolutely no training; you just kinda go for it! Keep it up, work super hard & you'll get permanent in no time

That was me last week, ultra excited, insanely nervous...and butterflies in my stomach.

FAKE IT TIL YOU MAKE IT.... that's my motto!
Good luck Chickie! i want updates in this thread from you, lol

Re: I just got Hired at MAC!!!

anytime! If you have any questions as to what makes a good freelancer feel free to ask me. Like one of our longest working girls says "there's some people who are going to be more than a freelancer.. some wont." It's an amazing experience, but let me tell you that being a permanent artist is a whole other ballgame, and even now, almost a month as a permanent artist, I get chills thinking about how amazing my run has been thus far

don't be afraid of rejection! u might really like you! i know if you're persistant and you show how dedicated you are about getting the MAC job, it'll reflect. i'm sure they love to see that in a potential future MAC artist. my advice to you is to just submit your resume to them and get to know them a bit so they remember you.

to OP:
i hope you got an interview. any update??

Re: Applying for MAC in Northern California

I'm from the Bay as well and I'm not so sure about how they place people at the freestanding store. When i was hired as a freelancer, they put my name down for a freestanding store. However when they offered me the perm position, it was at a department store.

Re: MAC Group Interview!!

Dude my MAC group interview consisted of about 22-25 girls. It was ridiculous. I had to fight to talk.
