Re: I went to interview for MAC today..

I have never interviewed for MAC before or anything, but I would go for a look that would appeal to customers, making them think "ooh, I want her to do my makeup/give me advice because her makeup looks so flawless!" Don't go editorial but don't be too boring either. I hope that was clear; good luck at your next interview!

Where are you from, Mac_Lust [just out of curiosity]? I'd do whatever you're best at, and do it well.

You don't have to do anything too crazy usually. The trainer for my region told me to do makeup like "she was going to the grocery store" for my demo lol

Re: I just got a job at MAC :)

Hello lovelies. Just wanted to give a quick update--my first day was AWESOME! I love this job! Of course I was kind of nervous but everyone kind of put me at ease. I was really only shadowing all day, going back and forth between the folks with the best sales so I could see how they do their stuff. I'm in love. Although I didn't get to close any sales, when it got on the busier side I got to take some people myself and I think I did a decent job! Maybe I just hit a lucky chord but I got people to buy more than they came in four--one lady came in for a lighter foundation but I helped her out and she ended up getting five things. So I'm hopeful, I really want to do well at this so I'm hoping this is the case once I am entered into the computer and such.

The other artists were really inspiring, a couple came in for full faces and the makeup was absolutely stunning. I think I'm used to youtube tutorials so seeing something do amazing work in person was really a treat (and that this is part of my job is awesome).

Anyways I'm full of word vomit right now. I work again on friday and I want it to be here already. It certainly doesn't help that it's crunch time at school so I've got finals, papers, etc and I would much rather be working at MAC right now than writing this 15-pager I should've started a month ago...;-P

Interview for M.A.C Tomorrow!

So pretty much this post is along the lines of what many people have posted about before. I've been wanting to work for M.A.C for a little over a year and a half now. I have been working for Clinique for that span of time. After applying to a couple counters I became discouraged since they didn't have any available positions. After waiting a little over a month I received a call from the infamous Homa! I have an interview with her tomorrow at the training facility, but of course being the crazy person I am I went off googling her! After reading most of the posts on her I got a good feel of what it might be like. But I'm still clueless as to what look I should do on myself for my interview. At first I was thinking more of a pin up look with blanc type, saddle, handwritten, and carbon with some winged liner and a red lip. But then I read someone saying that Homa thought their look was too bland. So then I was thinking more of a smoky look. Then I read someone saying that Homa thought their look was overdone. I know I'm rambling but I've been panicking for days now! Someone please help!!!

I would do a the pin up look, but with a small twist like a burgundy lip or the liner could be a different color. Don't panic, you will do great at your interview; good luck!

Re: Applying at a counter.

You have to go online and apply for a job for Nordstrom. For Macy's, you should probably stop into their Human Resources office at the store you want to work at. Both department stores will have you take personality type test before you get a call for an interview. For Nordstrom, you will take the Unicru test online when you apply for a position. At Macy's you will take their test at a computer in the Human Resources office. At least this is my experience with both companies when I applied.

Re: Interview for M.A.C Tomorrow!

So i'm not quite sure how my interview went. I was nervous beyond belief.....it felt like a train wreck and ok interview mish mashed all into fifteen minutes. She was exactly what I had expected after reading other peoples' posts. But its definitely harder to come face to face with than to just simply expect it. She was most definitely extremely blunt. She started out with the usual questions, then proceeded to ask questions about my personal makeup skills. After that she asked what I would rate my makeup today, and what I would fix. I froze up, and second guessed myself but hopefully I didnt do as poorly as I think I did.

The look I decided on today was blanc type, shroom, saddle, handwritten, and carbon for the eyes with a winged liner. Pink swoon for the cheeks, and commitment pro long wear.

Does anyone know how long it takes to hear back after a first interview???

Thanks so much everyone for your help!!!

Re: Applying at a counter.

Nordstrom and Macy's hire for mac differently. At Nordstrom just like someone said above me, you have to apply through their website and specify cosmetics--> MAC. For Macy's you have to go directly to the counter and submit your resume. Not all MAC counters at Macy's and Bloomingdales use applications. Its usually the managers preference. The difference at Macy's is because MAC rents its space from Macys and isn't a part of macys.

Hope this helps!!!

-source: I work for Clinique, when I applied to macys I put MAC as a preference, but then was told that they have their own separate hiring process. Once hired by MAC, you will still have to go through Macy's register training and such.-

Re: Interview for M.A.C Tomorrow!

Homa is very intimidating but she definitely knows her stuff.
The hardest part is waiting but don't be discouraged in case you don't hear from her in a couple days. Make sure to call her or send her a Thank you note for the interview. That way she'll have you fresh on her mind.
Be persistent. I hope you'll have good news soon! Good luck!! =)

Re: Interview for M.A.C Tomorrow!

Thanks so much for the positive words!! I guess I'll call her in three days to say thank you for the opportunity. I hope she doesn't think I'm irritating!

Re: Applying at a counter.

yes MAC hires people independently from Macy's. I submitted my resume to both MACs at Nordstrom's and Macy's. What I did was I gave my resume to the managers at the counter and they called me in to do a group interview at the training facility. I didn't do the actually application until after I was officially hired.

Re: Interview for M.A.C Tomorrow!

So I called her back but it went straight to voicemail. I left her a message saying thank you for the opportunity, and I look forward to hearing from you. I didn't want to call again to directly speak with her and annoy her. I haven't heard back from her yet. Waiting is the worst!!!!

For anyone who has interviewed with her: After how long did homa get back to you??
