MAC Interview
Okay, so I handed my resume to the hiring manager at my local MAC and after she reviewed it was told to be prepared to attend the casting call the following week. I did not have a whole lot of experience in the application of makeup in a professional sense which caused my nerves to crazy. I do however have a strong background in retail/customer service. Plus my love of makeup has caused me to learn how to perfect the look I want to achieve at least on me.
After waiting in the long line of people waiting to be seen, some who are already in the industry with Estee Lauder, etc I started to become even more nervous. However, once they got to me I was able to collect myself and found that with my background in retail, customer service, passion for the feild and basic understanding of makeup concepts and product knowledge I was asked back the following day for the demo. While many were not so lucky.
Some of the questions were...
How would you deal with an irate customer?
What would a typical sales pitch be for you?
How familiar are you with our products and can you name three skin care products?
which brushes would you recommend a novice to start out with?
Name three MAC e/s colors?
Why NC or NW?
What MAC products did I have on at this moment?
Why did I want to work for MAC?
Name three acceptable behaviours in a work environment pertaining to retail?
What was my favorite MAC Lipstick, e/s, brush and why?
I think that was all of them...
Well I went back for the demo the next day with my model, I was given 30 minutes total (including product selection) to complete the look my model wanted. A trainer walked around, observed and took notes, and when completed asked my model if she liked her look, and asked me what my vision was based off my understanding of what the model wanted. She then gave me a slight tip on how to increase lash length. I didn't feel too bad because everyone in the room receieved some type of feedback and tip. Not to mention one girl made her model look like MIMI from the Drew Carey Show.
She then thanked us all for coming, said that the purpose of the demo was to observe your interaction with a client, watch for artistic ability, and see how you might close a sale. She also let us know that makeup is a trainable art for someone that really wants to learn but has a basic understanding so she wasn't to interested in the looks being perfect.
I am curious though does anyone know what happens next? I mean she said it would be at least a week before anyone knew anything because the information had to go back to corporate and once a decision was made the selected candidates would be notified. It's only been three days but my nerves are on end and I don't know what to expect from this point? Do you think if I nailed the look in all aspects except making the lashes long enough that I will not get called back? what is the process following a call back?
