Ok,
I think you should start learning foundation just so you get more familiar cause you'll be asked to match foundation allllll day at work. =)
At my demo they only asked me to do eyes and lips and gave me 20 min. I only took 15min which made me look great. Lol
But every demo is different, so be prepared to do the full face like everyone else does.
I also have good skin that don't need much coverage so I only use studio moisture tint(tinted moisturizer) and MSF on top and I called it "foundation" cause I make it seem like it is. Everyone in my counter that works with me knows that, but for the sake of work whenever a customer ask me I say it's mineralize or select which have very sheer finish. That's what works best for me... so my opinion is.. as long it looks like you have it on... you'll be good to go.

Eeeeee I have my demo tomorrow at 11!! My mama is going to be my model, and I have a few questions. She tried to talk me into putting stuff on under her eyes before I moisturize, but I didn't think that was necessary, given the time restraints? Thoughts?

Also, (and I feel like a total noob asking this) do I apply things like Strobe Liquid and primer with my hands, if I spray them with alcohol or something first? Or is that super unprofessional? No one has complained when I've used my hands before, but I wanted feedback from you guys before I waltz in and manhandle my mom.

Also, when doing her foundation and eye makeup, is it okay to like... idk how to word this without making it sound awkard... pull her skin to make it a little more taught? Same with her eyelids, just because her skin is a little older. Does that make any sense? Also, any advice on applying mascara? It was way harder than I thought and I totally made a mess on my friend!

hey guys!!! i was wondering if anyone has any tips for the verbal part of the mac interview? i see myself doing better in the demo interview, but the verbal interview was never my strong suit.

hey i dont work for mac, but i suggest you LIMIT yourself about touching the face!!! i think the primer or mosturiser application is okay?? im really not sure. however, with the pulling of the face and eye lids i wouldn't recommend it unless she has really hooded eyes. Since taking microbiology in school there are so many organisms on your hands that might cause some form of irritation from touching.. So i would try my best not to touch the face with my fingers.

For my demo, I only grabbed the studio moisture fix to prep my models face. Simpler is better, you dont wanna overload on product and have it be i guess either unecessary or have the end result be too shiny and counteract the foundation finishes kwim? It depends on your scenario too. If the look doesnt really call for skin that illuminates or a heavy foundation. I also would try to not touch the face too much, I didnt touch at all. Oh and GOOD LUCK!

no hands!! use a duo fiber brush or a sponge (but it would make more sense to use a brush being as you're pretending she is a customer and you are trying to sell).
don't forget to use purell
and for mascara, have her look at your shoulder while you're applying. so for her left eye she'll look at your right shoulder and vice versa.

i dont know if asking this is ridiculous but.. for the demo interview. how are you suppose to apply the makeup when you dont really know the process as far as sanitation goes? for examply.. applying a base such as a paint pot.. or applying liner such as fluidline. are we already suppose to know how to scrape out some product and put it on a palette? or are we suppose use the back of our hand?

my trainer ran me through all the sanitation procedures before we even started the demo.

(they'll have you use the back of a petri dish)

Just got back from the Verbal Interview..but now I have questions!

I was going to post this under the "interview" thread but I have some questions that only MAC employees would probably be able to answer so I figured I'd just make a new one....although if it needs to be moved by all means... lol

Ok so..the verbal interview went aweeeesomeeee. I was nervous because I have a tendency to do the "umm uhh...umm..." thing when asked a question I have to really think about but for some reason every question she asked I immediately answered with a quickness and was actually surprised at how much I rocked it lol. (Even though there was another girl in there who was just observing who I could feel was grillin me the entire time and that was making me SO uncomfortable lol).

I'm waiting for my demo interview appointment to be set now. Whats crazy is I thought this was for a freelance position but it's actually for a part time position!!!
She told me they had 3 positions open--two 25 hr and a 30 hr. She then told me "we're most likely going to hire within the company for the 30 hr position because these positions are very rare and only come every so often"

She then told me that 80 to 90% of the entire staff is part time only!! That it's extremely difficult to become a full time employee unless you get promoted to a Manager. ?? Really???? That really sucks!!! Why is that? Do they just not want anyone getting benefits? That's the main reason I chose this path vs. the hairstylist path, because hairstylists don't receive any sort of benefits and a company such as MAC does?

I mean I'm not complaining about a part time position if I got it, I'm stoked! I'm just worried about never making enough money and being forced to have to do something else on the side. Which leads me to the next thing...they said "you must be very flexible and be able to work any days including weekends, as Saturdays are MANDATORY especially for part time employees. Now flexible to me would mean that they don't have a set schedule, that your days of the week are varied and inconsistent. SO that would mean you really couldn't have another part time job unless it was willing to work around your inconsistent MAC schedule?

Its all confusing to me. I know I'd do well with the company but I wish they offered more full time positions. She made it sound like no one EVER gets a full time position. I really want to grow with in the company and be able to make a nice living JUST doing that!

Is there anyone on here that is having a problem with not making enough money only working part time? Or having to juggle two jobs just to be able to continue working for MAC??

I'd really hate for this to cause a problem and it be a reason that I can't work for them. I just don't know how I'd make a living only working part time.

Oh and if its required to work every saturday how do they do that if they have 25 part time employees?? They have them ALL working on Saturdays? She said they rotate the Sundays but the Saturdays are mandatory. It seems like they'd be totally overstaffed on that day if every employee was working on that day lol.

sorry this is SO long!!!! But
specktra_rocks.gif
and I know you guys can give me answers!!

I'm gonna follow up tomorrow. I feel like people outside of those who do makeup would probably never understand why this is such a big deal... But really, it is a super big deal! Good luck, how was your demo?

i THINK it went really well? time-wise i went over, but my trainer not only encouraged me to finish, she helped with a few tips and stuff. she said they had a couple other candidates and that they'd call in a week in a half if they wanted me to come for the third interview. tomorrow it'll be a week. :s ugh. you're right, it's such a big deal!! good good good luck with your followup!!

What are you talking about? The loose mineral powder is not a finishing powder. It is a powder foundation that people can use on top of liquid/cream foundation.

BUT she is right, you must learn and get comfortable with liquid foundation brush.

First of all I wasn't talking about the loose mineral powder. I was talking about the pressed.

Secondly, I do makeup to pay my bills. I don't have any other kind of job. Also I used to work for mac, so I know what I'm talking about. We used the pressed MSFN all the time to set. You don't HAVE to use select sheer or the finishing powder to set, depends on what kind of coverage you need. also the MSFN has a way more natural and less powdery look than the other sheer powders.

Then you didn't read her post when she said "loose MSFN," she did say it wrong, but the loose in the foundation.

Please don't belittle me and talk down as if I don't know anything. I worked for MAC AND I now work as a MUA own my own to pay my bills. I know and fully understand what you are saying, but you misread her when she said she was using a the loose mineral foundation to begin with.
