Re: Im Finally In at Mac!

Wow.....I was trying to find out what happened with your interviewing process. I'm so happy it was a happy ending for you. I'm currently awaiting a call back for an interview date and time. So please cross your fingers for me. I hope to have a happy ending just like you.

Who here works for MAC?

I was just wondering who here works for MAC? Either freelancing or in stores? Pros and cons to both? What do you think your skill level was when you interviewed/applied as compared to now (if you've been working there awhile)? Any info would be appreciated

I'm completely freaked out about foundation. I don't do foundation on myself, so I really don't know how. I mean, I have a basic idea, but I'm feeling pretty nervous about it. Would I look bad if I used the loose MSFN on my model? I know how to buff that on, but that's about it... I'm a little terrified of liquids

Oooh goodness. I'm guessing it would be helpful to familiarize myself with the different foundations they carry... but I honestly don't know where to go from there. I stopped by my favorite counter today just to say hi (I'd been out of town for 7 mo) and was greeted with a, "Hey! How've you been? You need to fill out an application because we're hiring part time!"

So I was shocked and thrilled, and the asst. manager said she'd call me tomorrow, which is lovely. The part time thing is perfect, and half the staff has gone through the cosmetology program at Aveda that I'm starting in June. So besides the whole working for MAC thing, the position itself is so completely ideal. But yeah. Foundation is going to be interesting.

Oh awesome, thank you so much for your response!!! My sisters and I were all gifted with really easy skin (thus why I know NOTHING about foundation) and I was planning on one of them being my model.

I mean you don't need to study up on each foundation, that's what training is for, but at least familiarize yourself with the letter and numbering system, and maybe get to know 2 of the foundations (studio fix fluid and maybe studio sculpt).

Tiffany aka prettysecrets DID get hired and she didn't use foundation, however I don't think most counters or stores would be that lenient. The whole point of the demo is to show that you know how to do makeup, so even if your model has amazing skin, I'd still put on a sheer foundation and set with powder and do the whole 9 because they need to see that you know what you're doing and that you know how to apply.

Also, you mentioned you have great skin as well. You're still going to be expected to wear foundation and powder to work. They have guidelines for how many products you need to wear (lipliner, lipstick & lipgloss, at least 3 shadows, etc)

Maybe you can go to another mac counter that you don't typically go to and ask to be matched up then watch them in the hand held mirror (or wall mirror if you're at a store) and see how they do it. and force yourself to wear it on yourself at home or whatever so you can practice, you'll get it, no worries

I expected to be required to wear foundation, so at least I'm prepared for that part. Or aware of it. And thanks so much for the suggestion, that sounds brilliant!

Im not worried about the pay at all...I just think it would be a good escape from working a totally hectic and stressful job.

Re: Nurse wanting to work at MAC

i'm also a nurse (LVN) and a student going for my bachelors for my registered nursing degree.

i want to do the same thing on my off days - but i think i'd be best doing freelance for MAC since i have 2 toddlers also lol!

hi guys, i did the whole interview- demo thing a couple years ago... well, just did it alllllll over again. my first interview went really really great- and my demo... welll... i disappointed myself so much. i did okay, but it's mac. okay doesn't cover it, ya know? i'm supposed to hear back from the mgr in about a week so cross your fingers for me! ... i'm hoping at least for freelancing, this way i can redeem myself. oh, the waiting game!
