Seriously. I've heard, with my own two ears in Mac stores and at Bloomingdale's counters when there was talk of this collection that "I don't want to look like a crazy cartoon". I think that's ridiculous. Any color can be made wearable no matter the occasion. Even MA's have told me people have been complaining about there being a cartoon collection.

I love bold looks and neutral looks. I just want an idea of the colors and I'll decide what to do with it after that. I think you have to keep an open mind. Mac is a big company and the recent Rodarte disaster aside, they know what they're doing. They know their market and they wouldn't release a line of unwearable make up. If Style Black was wearable, what makes people think VV's won't be? I think the models looked stunning at the unveiling.

Everybody has its own taste and way to wear makeup, to combine colours or to try new things.

I think we should not discuss Temptalia's looks or swatches here if she is not with us sharing her own opinion.

For those who haven't seen them yet, here are some great swatches from Zoffe as well:

On Temptalia's post today using the Evil Queen Shadows, she said that Vainglorious = Indian Ink. Erin, do you think that is an accurate statement? I already have Indian Ink and now I am disappointed... I quite like the look she did today and like how all 3 shadows look together. I might need all 3 after all...

Re: MAC - Venomous Villains discussion

Looking at Karen's blog, I see that Vainglorious looks less coppery and much more appealing to me personally. Maybe I'll like it even more on me since I am darker than her. I will give that a good swatch. I'm thinking I should skip Vile Violet. It's just unremarkable to me now. The purples I have I only use on occasion. Toxic Tale is looking a lot like a mufe lipstick I just bought and Bite of An Apple blush doesn't look special to me anymore.

It's crazy to think I might just skip this whole darn thing now. I won't order anything online. I'll wait to swatch in the store and I'll buy whatever I like, if it's still available.

I am usually opposed to make up-no buys, but I think I really need one right now. I need an intervention.

That's one of the reasons I like Karen and Christine's swatches so much...there skintone is a little closer to mine. The funny thing is, even if someone that was a NW45 did swatches, it does not mean that it will look good on me. We mostly buy because we like an item. I have seen some girls with skintone very close to mine love an item when it comes out but I try it and hate it. That reminds me of Fresh Salmon lipstick. So many people loved it but, it looks like a hot mess on me. At some point, we kinda learn what will look good on us and what won't, what we like and what we don't like. That makes the whole process alot easier.

Also, I find it interesting that so many people don't like the look Christine did with some of the VV products because it's not evil, dramatic enough. She does not represent MAC, she represents herself and her site. She did the same thing we would all do; create looks that work for us, that we like. Just because the collection has the word Villains in it does not mean that every look has to be dark and edgy. The look the MAC Artist created for Cruella on the video is evidences of that. Just my two cents.

ITA with everything that you wrote! In response to the latter statements, makeup is such an individual preference. I think Temptalia's looks were beautiful and suited to HER. Many people work in conservative environments where they can't get away with wearing makeup that borders on theatrical/Halloween. Her looks showcased the products in the way the average woman who wears makeup would wear the items.

Many of the looks I see on Specktra look borderline clownish (IMO) complete with unflattering lip colors, unblended lip liner, and sharpie-drawn on eyebrows so *I* wouldn't wear them, but that doesn't mean I'm gonna talk trash because somebody else does. We all just have different ideas of what makeup looks should look like. Some folks are gonna think my lavender lipgloss is too safe and others are gonna think my orange blush is too outlandish. C'est la vie!

Does anyone else think that Happy Together MB looks like Her Own Devices BB?

So if you have Happy Together I guess you don't need Her Own Devices?

I think that is a GREAT idea -- I apologize to Temptalia (wherever she is, if she is here) and to all the ladies of Spectra who feel "offended" by any comment made of a makeup DEMO and not of a BLOGSITE or a PERSON -- I thought this was an "open" forum and therefore posted what I had seen.. Today, there was a lovely Purple MU as described by Audrey on that very same site -- but I guess that should not be mentioned

Usually when Christine does a look and recommends a replacement, it does not necessarily mean they're dupes. It's just the closest thing she can think of. She mentioned in a comment on the swatch page that Indian Ink is probably the closest to Vile Violet, but Indian Ink is darker and not as easy to work with. Vile Violet looks gorgeous, in my opinion. And I definitely agree about her look with these three colors, they look incredible together and it's making me want all of them even though I told myself only Vile Violet!

Re: MAC - Venomous Villains discussion

All this talk of Vile Violet has me itching to break out my beloved Violet Trance. Not saying they are comparable, but that's how my mind works. It's been awhile since I've used it.

The new swatches are only increasing my lemmings.

I think I must add Toxic Tale, Violetta and Revenge is Sweet to the must have list--esp. if RIS looks like Russian Red

Her Alter Image, Vile Violet, BOA are still maybes

French Quarter is tempting but moving to the no list because it doesn't have enuff green to make me want to deal with the texture of a grease stick

Some one talk me down from adding Truth & Light and Her Own Devices as well

they're close, but going off of my paper swatch, even tho both are mattes, i find VV to be easier to work me.

That said, not all looks have to dark and edgy.. but in order to present this line as it was intended by MAC: Makeup Art Cosmetics -- a bit more oomph would have worked to present the full potential of the collection

Re: MAC - Venomous Villains discussion

I only say this in the spirit of encouraging creativity and loving cool new products:

We all seem to be talking about everyday looks vs. theatrical looks. Personally, I most enjoy re-thinking everyday looks, since I'm gonna be wearing those more than I'm going to be out partying. Today we're heading in a great direction where you can think outside the box and be creative and still have a look that is very modern, without being garish or sloppy.

Just change up little things - like that MAC Dr. Facilier look, where you have great brows and liner, simple mouth and beautiful glowing highlighter. To me that's less work and less ornate and also really high fashion. You could do a similar look and be fine even at a conservative job. Or just try bold lips and cheeks but skip the eye makeup entirely - just groom the brows and add a slight highlight, no mascara, no liner! Or use only one eye shadow color, softly rimming the whole eye, skipping everything else except a subtle lipgloss. New products like the greasepaint sticks can help us come up with a totally new approach - always wanted a smudged look that didn't turn into a smeared look? Well, now you can at last!

We all know women who still rock their favorite look from whenever was their personal makeup heyday. But to me, true beauty is when you know you already look great and use your makeup for fashion, style and art. No need to rely on one time-tested look when new products are making new looks that are super easy, understated and flattering. You can be adventurous, because the products just get easier to work with and stay on better without extra work.

The VV collection is just screaming "Try me, ladies! Mix this shit up!" Massive makeup transition - all aboard! No wonder people are passionate

Wow I can't believe how much I am loving this collection! When it was first just a rumored collection, I was hoping it wasn't true b/c it sounded kinda cheesy. But now it is just around the corner, and I am loving all the products- and the packaging is so cute! It is bringing me back to my childhood, and connecting the characters to the colors is just awesome.
yes.gif

Anyways my current list:
-Strange Potion l/g
-Toxic Tale l/s
-Vainglorious e/s
-Bite of an Apple Blush
-Oh so Fair bp
-Innocence Beware l/s (x2)
-Heartless l/s
-Bad Fairy np
-Formidable! np
-Mean & Green np
-Truth & Light Cooling Powder
...so I'm looking at $206!! Doesn't help that FF is also going to clean my wallet out!

I have been trying to cut things out but everytime I see the swatches I only want more!

I have respect for all FOTDs and looks shown here on Specktra - like I said before everyone's taste is different and I think no one would show a look here if they aren't convinced with it.

No, not banned

I just want to avoid talking in a negative way about someone else who is not here - discussions can easily turn that way.

Of course you can share your opinion about a collection or products freely and constructivly, but we should not reduce it just to one blog or person.
