The funny thing is, even if someone that was a NW45 did swatches, it does not mean that it will look good on me. We mostly buy because we like an item. I have seen some girls with skintone very close to mine love an item when it comes out but I try it and hate it. That reminds me of Fresh Salmon lipstick. So many people loved it but, it looks like a hot mess on me. At some point, we kinda learn what will look good on us and what won't, what we like and what we don't like. That makes the whole process alot easier.
Also, I find it interesting that so many people don't like the look Christine did with some of the VV products because it's not evil, dramatic enough. She does not represent MAC, she represents herself and her site. She did the same thing we would all do; create looks that work for us, that we like. Just because the collection has the word Villains in it does not mean that every look has to be dark and edgy. The look the MAC Artist created for Cruella on the video is evidences of that. Just my two cents.

with your comments on skin tones and how sometimes swatches do not reflect how a product may look on lighter, darker or more tanned skintones. That is one reason why buying online is so difficult -- you have to gauge the swatches and take a chance on the descriptions. It really is best to actually try the product on.
I happen to think Christine/Temptalia has a lovely blog site -- the fact that her representation of the VV colours did not impress me was because the colours are more vibrant than what was represented (I have seen these in person). You are totally right in saying she represents herself and her site -- and is free to do as she pleases with the colours.. just as I am free to feel unimpressed
That said, not all looks have to dark and edgy.. but in order to present this line as it was intended by MAC: Makeup Art Cosmetics -- a bit more oomph would have worked to present the full potential of the collection
From an economic viewpoint, if I want colour and no "edge or bite" I would not spend on MAC, but rather go with a DS line and get a lovely dupe
and do a simple everyday mu with similar colours
