Hypathia, I love your post on age!
I think because I started working in elderly care (nursing homes, etc.) when I was 20, I early got a different perspective on the concept of "old". I'd be at work, taking care of people who were 84, 93, 79, who had children and grandchildren and great grandchildren... and then go for drinks with a friend who was freaking out because she was going to turn 22 and therefore felt "old". It just felt sort of silly to me, describing someone of 22 as old when I had met a woman the same day who was so happy because she was attending her daughter's 70th birthday.
