Miss California's answer............

I really enjoyed reading this topic- I am really wondering what non-Americans think of this. I know a few Canadians posted, but I wish I could see what many other non-Americans think.

Also, I asked my boyfriend if we could get "opposite married". It was so funny

Say the question had been: "Recently all states voted to allow inter-racial marriage. Do you agree with their decision to do so, why, or why not" or "Recently all states voted to allow women to legally work in the US, Do you agree with their decision to do so, why, or why not"

And she had said:
"I personally believe that a marriage is between two Caucasian people." Or "I personally belive that women are inferior and shouldn't be allowed to work".

Think about how many people would have throw her under the bus, just as Perez did. You have to put yourself in that persons shoes and imagine how humiliating and degrading it must be for someone to openly voice an opinion that says you are inadequate as a human being and shouldn't be allowed to have the same rights as everyone else.

Its easy to say "Wow, Perez is an ass for treating the girl this way". But you know what, if she had said either of those statements above - I would have thrown her under the bus myself. It may be her opinion, and even if you agree with her, put yourself in the shoes of all GLBT people out there who heard that answer, and felt as they do on a daily basis - that they are not viewed as equal to the rest of society. Think about the young lesbian teenager watching that pageant, who either dreamt of being a pageant queen, or dreamt of getting married, or dreamt of doing many of the things she may not have an option to do - think about how terribly that kind of statement hurts those people.

So Perez flipped out - but you know what, we need to stop looking at it like its not the right of every GLBT person to be SEVERELY outraged. We've already taken away their right to marry (for the most part) - lets not take away their right to be outraged that the world is telling them that they aren't equal.

It's one thing to disagree with her stance, and to even go so far as to call her ignorant. But to go to the degree that Perez did is just hateful and speaks very little of him as a human being. She said nothing derogatory about the GLBT community, she just stated her opinion about marriage.

I realize that community deals with a lot of hate, but wouldn't they be better served by rising above such hate and anti-GLBT opinions, by educating the public? IMO, Perez is doing far more damage to the GLBT community by tearing apart Miss California.

I just read that she has now come out saying that she believe that being Gay is a choice and a behaviour learned over time. That in her family that would never be allowed.
Can we keep people like this from breeding? Please?
How can someone be SO ignorant

Wockner: Interview with Miss California, Carrie Prejean

Carrie: I think it's a behavior that develops over time.

Rex: Why would someone choose it, given that if you choose that, you get discriminated against?

Carrie: Um, because obviously Perez Hilton doesn't think that there's anything wrong with it.

Rex: No, but if being gay is a choice, rather than something you're born with, why would you choose something that's going to lead to your being discriminated against? What would be the motivation?

Carrie: I'm not sure what the motivation would be.

Rex: OK. Me either.

^^^ It's just her opinion...who cares....she's entitled to it as we are entitled to ours....I have heard far worse things come out of mouths...I don't think anything she has to say is that important to have people this upset....if that is what she thinks so what, not gonna change any laws nor should it affect anyones life. If that is her belief it does not make it right or wrong...makes it HER belief....

Because unfortunately she is spewing this crap out to the public, and i know that lots of people share these beliefs, and i really have no idea how they can. Gay rights and equality are extremely important to me. I know you'll never change everyone's mind, but i hear someone (especially a public figure, or a 15 min of famer) saying such nonsensical backwards things, i get sad, and well, i loose a little hope.
I know she won't go shaping laws, but state reps are backing her and her not so gay friendly views. And there doing it publicly...

Anyway, i always get bent out of shape when i hear things like this, whether it be Miss California or some stupid kid in the school Cafeteria. The only difference is Miss California is saying it to millions. The kid in the caf is only talking to his stupid friend.

Don't get me wrong I dislike it to I am all for rights equally for all people...But right or wrong...The girl is entitled to believe what she wants...we all have that right... The fact that people actually care and keep watching her and responding to her words only prolongs it...and keeps her in the public eye.....

Fair enough - but personally, if someone told me that I shouldn't be allowed to have the same rights as everyone else - I would raise a shit storm like never before.

can we call THIS ignorant now, because if after all the studies with brain differences etc she can spew this, I believe that we have the right to call it as it is.
Oh and I see she talked about the President's stand on gay marriage, yeah while he gives his religious view he backs civil unions and the same rights being given to gay couples, I see Miss ali is trying to become the new Anita Bryant

Tish I know what you mean about us all being entitled to our opinions, but I agree with what Mabelle is saying. If you are passionate about a subject, some opinions would really make you angry. Miss California's opinion to me is like say we all know about gravity and ppl like Newton have dedicated their lives to prove it. Then you get some rando come and say:"I don't believe in gravity!!". You see what I mean? If you don't know about it, don't deny it! If you're denying it, at least say why with concrete reasoning! And if they say that on TV it's even more annoying! It doesn't disvalidate the law, but it is frustrating to the ppl who care.

I find it sad that only 4 states have legalized same sex marriage

I totally understand and understood what Mabelle was saying....What I am saying is....I DO NOT believe in what Miss Cali's opinions are...However I don't care either.....She can talk til she is blue in the face and it phases me not one bit....I guess my skin is a lot tougher...and I have been through so much that MOST opinions do not move me....They are like buttholes...we all have them...from Good to bad....I don't contribute to her moment in the spotlight because I don't listen, watch or really care what comes out of her mouth. When others stop...she will stop talking.

I love when people preach about tolerance, but then refuse to be tolerant themselves. /sarcasm
