'My Space' hoax ends with suicide....

This story makes me really mad! The nerve of that woman even telling Mrs. Meier to "stop" talking to the media. Lori Drew is responsible for Megan's death. She's supposed to be an adult but she acted worse than an animal. She toyed with this 13-year old child's emotions and psyche for months, knowing Megan's history of depression. And she does not feel any remorse at all?

The authorities should take her daughter away. If she's done something like this to another child, how is she raising her own? She's not fit to be a mother. An animal would do a much better job. Lori Drew needs to be held accountable for the emotional torture she put Megan and the Meiers through. But since, the authorities can't charge them with anything (yet, I hope), someone should have their pictures out so the world knows WHO these people are. This way, if they ever change names, we'll still recognize them! I certainly don't want them anywhere near my neighborhood. I firmly believe the Drews need to be tar and feathered and forced to wear a scarlet letter that says "child killer" for the rest of their lives!

I am so disgusted by this. How can that lady say that she feels less guilty because she had attempted suicide before!! THey were "close" family friends, they knew of her depression, they knew of her problems, and they went ahead and drove her to suicide.

They have a daughter, and everything comesback to you. I dont wish anything bad on them, but they will get what they deserve. Fugg.
As a parent, I cannot imagine the grieve Megans parents are enduring.

These people are sick, and they should be punished in the cruelest way possible for doing this to a little girl.

No worries, but that's the wonder of the internet. You doubted the veracity of the story, I provided multiple links for the story from various news sources, including the ones I listed, so you could see that your statements were unfounded.

I can't believe adults did this. That is sick. They don't seem the least bit remorseful. What every happened to people being accountable for their actions? It seems that anymore people feel that they can do whatever the hell they want to do and don't care how it affects others. These people will reside in hell for eternity. I can't believe the cops aren't doing anything.

Technically, there were no laws broken. There was already a history of mental illness for the female, with a past attempt at suicide.
She didn't leave a note, or any indication of motive for the suicide, so while it's obvious what drove her to it, there's not a direct tie between the two, or anything to directly prove that Lori Drew's actions were what drove her to suicide.

Police Report

I'm lovin' that Lori Drew really only admitted anything about it because she was worried about having property damage. What a nasty cow. I guess she was too stupid to realize that police reports are a matter of public record and she outed herself to the world.

The Meiers denied the allegation from Mrs. Drew that there were past attempts at suicide. They claim Megan hadn't ever previously attempted to commit suicide.

Ahhhh I see that. She discussed it while in third grade, not attempted it.

There's still a history of depression, ADD, and bad choices, as well as the therapy for discussion of suicide while she was in 3d grade. =/

I don't agree that the family who perpetrated the act should be scot free and unpunished, I'm just saying there's nothing beyond circumstantial evidence to connect the two.

It's sad, but I'm honestly not surprised.
Being in the late stages of my teenage years, I've seen a lot of bad bad parents crawl out of the woodwork.
A lot of my friends (and some now, ex friends) parents have just been absolutly insane... acting in the most immature ways and always taking their childrens side. Just because they are adults, doesn't mean they know whats best. Sad but true.

I don't think that they can be charged in the girl's suicide, but aside from that, shouldn't there be a law regarding presenting themselves as a person they weren't for the sole purpose of manipulating this girl? I would think that would be more legislatible (if that is a word) than some charge relating directly to her suicide.

There is a contiuation errors in this story.

At the end of the story it states Megan was going to get braces off the day she died, but earlier in the story it states 'She had to take her younger daughter, Allison, to the orthodontist.' No where does it state Megan.

Regardless of the error I, unfortunately, can see this happening.

How is this an error? Siblings don't necessarily need checkups at the same time.

It never mentioned Megan going in for an appointment to get her braces off until the very end. I understand where you are coming from that Megan could still get them off while the younger one has an appointment. Maybe it is just bad writing on the author's part since it was never mentioned that Megan was going to get them off as the story was being told, but only put in the conclusion as a pity factor. Yes it may be true she was getting them off, but mention it sooner. It felt like it came out of no where to boost the 'pity factor'. Which is why I said a continuation error.

if the boy was a real person, not a fabricated one, his parents could sue on his behalf for false impersonation...but even that would end only in a fine to the woman, not jailtime. if megan's family got a good enough lawyer, they even could probably take her for false representation, but again, that will only result in a fine, not jailtime.
