What is/was your ideal engagement ring?

I don't have a ring picked out already. I just want something simple because I don't wear a lot of jewelry as it is.

I haven't really give it that much thought. It'd have to either white gold or platinum though with sexy diamonds. Nothing too brash looking. Elegant and feminine.

Hmmm that's quite descriptive for somebody who not given it "that much thought" isn't it?

I'm all for it, as long as both husband and wife agree to it without hurt feelings. I know some people would feel too sentimental about their rings to do it, but since I picked out my own ring, I am not terribly attached to it that way. I love it, and I never go without it, but I wouldn't mind upgrading it.

In fact, we already did it once

I originally had a tiny three-stone ring.

My husband and I eloped when we were students and paid for everything ourselves, so my wedding ring (never got engaged) is a cheapo job, just a plain gold band. But what does it matter? We're married almost 12 years, I don't think we'd have been happier if he'd given me a big diamond ring.

We've been talking about upgrading our rings though, just for fun. I think I'd want the same type of ring, plain gold band, but thicker than what I have now.

I would love something like this

Or this but having it with sapphires (not bothered if the centre stone is diamond and the sapphires are around it or the other way round)

Both of them are quite big, so I'm not bothered if they are smaller!

lol i picked mines out, but it was totally a surprise. We went to the mall and then my fiance took me to zales, and he said ur picking out ur ring rite now. I didn't like the traditional 1 diamond rings, but i fell in love with ther 'past, present and future' collection. The pics are sort of crappy...

I feel some of you on the whole , 'you must have a diamond wen ur engaged', and i completely understand why some ppl wouldn't care for one. My fiance wanted me to get one bcuz he said i deserved one (im 21 now and i've been with him since i was 14). Personally i found it a drag to let everyone know i was engaged (cause to me it was sort of expected, i mean c`mon i been with him for 7 yrs).

Your ring is beautiful! Just resize the pics or replace them with links, otherwise the mods will do it

Ok i picked out my own ring, but i didnt pretend and make a big fake ordeal about it, that's just pathetic. We just practically told our parents okay we're engaged and blah blah. I agree with u on puttin pressure on ur guy about wanting a certain ring from a certain store of so and so amount. I mean i never really thought about want i wanted or how it had to be, didn't really care for it, but given the situation i said hey why not?

I wanted something incredibly simple (definitely a solitaire) that would be practical - nothing that would catch on anything, 'cause I'm really clumsy! So, I have a half-bezel solitaire ring in white gold.

I was only engaged for a month, so I didn't want an engagement ring. I wanted one big ring rather than two small ones, so my wedding band is white gold with either 1k or 0.75k total weight diamonds around the band. It looks just like Tish's husband's, lol!

I just want a solitare marquise cut diamond on a plain silver or platinum band.

Hell, it doesn't even have to be a real diamond. I'm very uncomfortable with the whole diamond industry going on- people getting killed in mines and things.
