I have to do my models face in just over a week, im guessing at the head office, and in front of the queen b. i can feel myself sweating again just thinking of it, but i'm confident. I was told that i could bring my model in at anytime at my counter to practice, which was realllly cool of the manager. We're going back tomorrow. I cant wait till all of this is over, and I get my new hire packet. I'm looking ahead i know, but you kind of have to i guess. Thanks again!

Eeeeek! I went into MAC today and the manager walked right up to me and said the job fair was going to be on Wednesday, I was glad she recognized me. I'm so nervous already! Any last minute tips or advice?

Be confident and be the part.

Be dressed all black with your hair done, makeup polished and professional, and be open to feedback. Good luck! Let us know how it goes.

do exactly what Chrystia said be confident and be yourself. MAC is all about diversity. i would wear a neutral look with a bit of drama. it great to show off ur skills with that type of look as most people come into MAC for something along those lines i know yesterday i had to do a ton of wedding and bridesmaids looks so neutral all the way with a bit of drama. you dont want to look like ur trying to hard with them.

be open to feedback

know your MAC history specktra was a godsend for me i used this site to read everything i can about the company. talk about what MAC does for the community like kids helping kids, viva glam,MAC aids fund, back to MAC

right after i did my interview i did my demo on another mac employee who works at the store in the same mall i work at

alway be open to learning something new just be truthful and genuine with your answers

i interviewed for a freelance position and i got a permanent position at a counter in the same mall as the store.

and remember have fun make sure u talk with the person you doing your demo on explain what u doing with their makeup as well as making conversation

hope this helps

THANK GOD FOR SPECKTRA!!!!!!!!!! Reading as much as I could really prepared me for what to expect and totally gave me more confidence

I went to the job fair today, got there half an hour early with my model we were the first ones there
smiles.gif
, waited for them to be ready then we went down stairs into a conference room to do a group interview. There was about 8 of us, then they asked our models to wait outside or go shop for a half hour til we were done with the verbal. After we introduced ourselves the first question was why mac and I was the first to answer
smiles.gif
they asked us what we think they expect from their artists ( i mentioned upholding the mac image, because the set the starndard etc), what would we do if one of our coworkers had constructive criticism for us but wasn't very nice about it, there was other questions too but we elaborated on each question for about 10 minutes. Then they asked us to wait with the models while they deliberate and they called four of us back and we got to move on to the demo! YAY!

We brought our own brushes so this is what i used
150
242
224
266
188
316

They said that our models are going to a holiday party and want to try out a red lip, they gave us 5 minutes to pull our products and 30 to finish the look, i did
Eyes:
Soft ochre paint pot for a base
goldmine on the lid
amberlights on the outer lid
saddle in the crease
ricepaper for a highlight
mylar for the brow bone
espresso on the brows with clear brow set
Smolder eye khol for liner
Opulash mascara

Face:
strobe cream
Select spf 15 foundation
MSF natural
Peaches blush
MSF Gold Deposit
select cover up concealer

Lips:
lip conditioner
Brick liner
Ruby woo
and i forgot the name of the dazzle glass, but it was the reddest one they had

I was talking to my model the whole time, telling her what i was doing, and the names of everything. They werent watching us like hawks, but they were close enough to hear and see how we were interacting with the customer. After we were done they went around and gave each of us feedback. She asked what I used and thankfully i remembered the names of everything except the dazzleglass, then she asked what i liked the best, I said that I love the red and gold together, then she asked what i thought i did wrong, i said the liner on one eye and the foundation color was a little off but i just went with it to get done in the time limit, she said she was gonna say the exact same thing and that if i was helping a customer that i could feel free to wipe it off and start over so they get a perfect match. She also said that i picked the perfect red for my model and she loved that i went around with concealer to give it a good clean edge.

I felt so good after we were all done, they said they would be calling by tomorrow to let us know what they decided. Even if i dont get this, I had a lot of fun today and I'm just so happy that i got to move on to the demo portion, so now I wait. Haha, but i honestly think my model looked the best out of us 4 and one of the girls wasnt talking to her model at all. But I'll find out tomorrow

I don't know if there is another forum for this topic but what kind of privileges or discounts do you get when you work for mac???

as a freelancer u get nothing. no training no gratis u can apply for a MACPRO card.

as a permanent employee. you get your staff card which the discount is more than the MACPRO card but u can only use it online or at a MAC freestanding store only. you also get gratis meaning u get key pieces from each collection that comes out. you are also able to go to the pro classes that MACPRO holds you get to go to basic training for MAC which a week long which FREELANCERS dont MAC will pay for your hotel stay and food when your at a function for MAC (update or basic). you also get a discount at the cosmetics company store, as well as any other brands that estee lauder owns(clinique, bobbi brown,prescriptives,etc..) but those have to be a freestanding store as well.
it's a great company to work for I love it!!

New Mac counter Hire. HELP

My local Macys will be having a MAC counter coming in January. I am super excited and interested in working at MAC. My question is if there is no counter yet how can i get the upper hand and apply for a position there. Please help as i know usually you would get hired by dealing with the manager but since its not there yet not sure sure how this works. thanks

Also Macys is hiring for a PT beauty advisor would that have anything to do with the new MAC counter coming?

I would recommend contacting the HR department at your local Macy's. They may have information on how to specifically apply for the new MAC counter. If not, hopefully they will at least be able to point you in the right direction. HTH

MAC usually hires from with in if its a new counter or store opening they bring on freelancers as permanent employees or current employees move over to the counter for more hours. at least thats how it works here in texas i would call around to the other MAC counters near it cause if ur hired u work for MAC not MACYS. MAC just uses the space.

As someone stated, MAC rents the space from Macys so you would not apply to Macys if you are hoping to work for MAC. If there are other MAC counters or stores in the area I would stop in and ask them for an application and express your specific interest in the new counter. Each region seems to work a little bit differently. If there are currently no counters or stores in the area that you can go to, I would go with the other person's suggestion and ask if MACYS has contact info for anyone with the new counter. Make sure you have a resume ready in case for each situation. Good luck!
