MAC Après Chic Collection Discussion (December 2012)

SR feels custom made for my colouring - that's a nice treat when even neutral colours typically run too cool for me. :)

I don't wear it as blush (too metallic that way), but it's absolutely divine applied with a fan brush over NARS Deep Throat or Warm Soul.

I'm glad SR works so well for you. It works fine for me too, especially when I have a tan. Then, I'll use it on my cheeks and lightly on the temples, brow, etc. as a general warmer-upper. I still have to kind of force myself to use it, though. It was big news back in the day when there were so fewer options for really bright face products, though, so that's where all the hype comes from, I think.

I like your idea about using a fan brush. I bet it's the best way to apply it - I still need one of those eventually - the 131 and 188 have been my light application go to brushes, but a fan brush could do better than either of them for something like SR, where the basic texture is not that sheer.

You don't have a fan brush? Oh, you need to get one. They're fabulous. I love mine (MAC 184). They're the only thing I use for MSF or really pigmented blushes (hello, NARS Torrid).

SR with a fan brush is just a beautiful warm coral glow. It will last me the rest of my life because I use so little of it, but it's perfect that way and I don't get the metallic or fish scale look. I hate glitter and metallic looks on myself but I'm really enjoying this. Yasmin just sent me a CP of Redhead; I can only hope I like that half as much. :)

I'm one of those picky brush people. I actually keep a pretty limited collection of brushes and only get really narrow focus specialty brushes if I feel like they solve a specific common issue I always need to deal with. Maybe I will look into getting a cheaper fan brush somewhere first and trying it out. I don't have tons of products I need such a light touch with, but I think it might come in handy with a few things.

Thanks for the recommendations, ladies! I have Angel and Please Me, and I need to show them more love. I've been distracted with LE lippies lately and seem to have neglected my perm lippies. Pink Plaid and Velvet Teddy have been on my (very long) wishlist too, but I'm moving them to the top along with Mehr.

From my permanent stash it reminds me most of pink plaid and please me.

I missed out on the MAC fan brush but I have the Laura Mercier fan brush. I'm not too good with technique with it when applying MSFs, particularly on top of my cheek bones, where blending the MSF is essential. Any application tips to help me out with this, or should I then use my 130 to blend the MSF?

The fan brush picks up so much less product that I don't have to blend very much at all. I drag the brush backwards and forwards across the surface of the blush/MSF and then sweep it across my cheekbone (sort of on an angle if I don't want it to be as wide). I might blend very slightly with the tips, but it's easily done (and I'm no expert).

The Careblend bronzer from a couple years ago was amazing too - I really hope MAC does something about bringing those back and just generally keeping Careblend's profile high. Discontinuing the MCLPs has gotten me all worried about Careblend now.

Thanks for the suggestion, i may give the Careblend powder a try when my Mineralize Skinfinish Natural starts hitting pan, which will be soon. I, too, have dry skin, but MSFN works well when my liquid foundation is looking a bit too... liquid... I brush the powder on my T-zone and cheeks (but not under my eyes). The glowy finish keeps me from looking dried out and mummified.

I'm not much of a concealer person, but I am very happy with the Mineralize one. It's the only one moist enough to not crease or bunch up under my eyes and it does a good job of concealing everything I need (although I don't mind a few freckles, I do have a couple of age spots near my eyes I like to erase). The other good thing about it is it has caffeine in it, so it depuffs me. Combining it with P&P Vibrancy Eye gives serious depuff-o-rama.

After testing a number of DS & HE concealers for a couple years, I've settled on Lancome Maquicomplet, a liquid concealer in a tube with an applicator. I've got a couple age spots on my right cheek i prefer to hide, and my sunken undereyes look better with something creamy on them that evens out their color.

I have not had any success with the MAC foundations and concealers i've tried. They've been too dry on me. I returned the Studio Sculpt Foundation i bought because i looked mummified - and that was over moisturizer, plus i tested applying it with my fingers, a brush, and a slightly damp sponge. It looked great for the first hour or two, after that my skin looked like a drought stricken field, shrivelled and cracked. I may be able to get a sample of some Mineralize concealer to test over a couple days.

On the other hand, that new concealer palette has been drawing me in. I should check that forum and see what people think of it.

I'm really liking HC, here w/o gloss:

I forgot to take a pic of me in HA. It's really nothing special on me.

Did any WOC return this lipstick? I did but now I'm not sure.. it's just so line defining... any suggestions?

For Reference I am: MAC Matchmaster 7.5, Bobbi Brown Warm Walnut 7.5, , (MAC NW45 is too red for me)

MAC Matchmaster 7.5 is perrrrfect!! <3

IT is still available on Nordstrom and MAC. Should it stay or should it go?

Here is a pic of Cozy Up  I've also got HC, HA and I want WANT AC. =( I didn't order it at first but ordered Sunday on the nordies site. When I swatched it at Macy's it looked like a very wearable even everyday color. I don't think I will even need a lip liner for it! (Although I wear liner with everything.) do it! Do it! Do it!
