Should I try this one...
I'm really frightened I get really hooked to La Mer.

Is it a highlight powder or can it be used all over?

Almond is one of the brightest shiniest Poudre Douces so I don't suggest to use it all over, especially if you have large pores or/and a oily face. I think is an awesome highlighter, it really does the job without being that obvious.

My daughter in law isn't quite into it like me - yet! She likes Bobbi Brown, but told me the other day she is really getting into Chanel
Yesterday, I bought her Bobbi Browns cheek tint in sheer pink - its soooo pretty. I send her makeup all the time. I even bought her a pair of those colorful mini tweezerman tweezers the other day. Since I only have a son - I LOVE sharing everything girly with her.
I looked at my stash this morning

I know what you mean about sharing girly stuff - I have a niece, but she's young yet but getting there - I think though she's a tomboy she has a secret curiosity.....I'll convert her eventually.
My son wants me to take his girlfriend with me to see my fave MUA - I'm going to do that - I think it would be great fun! I'll have to learn as I go!

I wish I had mothers in law like you both!!
Mine is 81 years old and has never cared much for make up!!
