Re: Chanel Discussion & Must Haves

mac_aiken, here is a peek at some of my Chanel quads to give you an idea of colors in readily-available options.....I will try to swatch these later - the swatches 'take' better when I have UDPP or some other primer underneath. The weather is getting cloudy/rainy here so it may have to wait until tomorrow, but this gives you a general idea.

The dark color in Winter Nights is a dark olive/gold color that doesn't show up well in the pic....the other ones are pretty close.

Re: Chanel Discussion & Must Haves

With the gazillion neutral Chanel quads I find it really hard to choose which will be the most flattering just looking at pics of the quads or even swatches. It seems like just about every one of their quads has some variation on pink and peach, some of which look great and some of which make me look like a sick bunny rabbit. You really need to try them on. Demure was not good on me for instance - so disappointing because I love it in pictures! -while Winter Nights was much nicer, one of my favorites.

Not to start a riot, but if you're looking for color, you're better off with either MAC, MUFE or UD for more *color* options......Chanel for more 'classic' colors that are good for any/every day and are pretty much reliable in that regard.

If you're looking for 'high-end' color, Dior has some beautiful options as well, with excellent texture.

It's just going to depend on what is most important to you at the time. I tend to like to 'grab and go' during the week for work, and know that when I grab the Chanel quad I don't have to think about it. When I want to get creative or use more color (which requires more thought for me) I reach for MAC, MUFE and UD.

JMHO.

^^ Oasis does make me look like I'm sick, and Kaska Beige too, if I use too much of the shimmery coppery beige shade. I love the silvery taupe shade in Mystic Eyes, which makes it not just a beige/pink neutral quad.

The teal shade in Bird of Paradise fades a little on me by the end of the day. IMO the pigmentation is good, as the teal colour looks the same in the pan as it is on my eyelids, but staying power is not that fantastic. The other three shades are good. Just to add, I use Too Face Eyeshadow Insurance and it doesn't give me any problems with most e/s.

I see where Nordies has the eyeshadow duos listed but you cannot access anything when you click the pic? Maybe you guys already talked about this & I missed it.

Hey dear, I went back & tried to find it & couldn't what colors are in the Demure quad again. Why is that not listed at Chanel - or am I just not seeing it?
Thanks

Did you get any color payoff with Lily? My skin is really fair.

I am really loving that Winter Nights quad (thanks for the pic!)...number 4 on my list of quads to get.

The new duo tease at Nordies is annoying. Blah...just sell them already!

Demure has a rosy shimmer, a champagne shimmer, a peachy/pink shimmer and a dark matte nut brown.

Lily is a very pretty highlight 'color' - by that I mean it doesn't have a lot of color, but it does have a sheen. It's probably a distant cousin of Tissueweight without the shimmer TW has. It is a light ballet sort of pink.

Here are some swatches (I'm getting the hang of this thing
winks.gif
......details:

All swatches are over UDPP, using the sponge applicator that comes with the quads so that they'll show up.
It's a cloudy day here - in the first photo, the flash went off, the second photo is without the flash.

Thanks so much elegant and shypo. I had no luck, but I am in new york so I should expect that. Maybe the bloomies back in jersey has it. Too tired to find out. I'm about to eat, check out sephora and then go home!

I think YSL's Rouge Volupte in Rose Paris (one of the newer colors) is close to Genial, if it's that color you're after. How YSL justifies a $34 lipstick when even Chanel is $30 is beyond me though.

I checked again and actually all of my products are made in France, except my highlighter concealer pen. It is made in Italy and it says Chanel NY on it. Does everyone in the US have made in Italy then or is it totally random?

I'm only into neutrals. I'm interested in Deep Taupe or Slate, but need to see them in person. I only have one single Chanel eyeshadow (Le Bronze) and it is by far my most used eyeshadow, so I wouldn't mind having another one! Heather Rose looks nice, but I don't usually like how pink eyeshadows look on me. This one looks quite soft though.

Great swatches! This confirms for me that I would love Mica and Deep Taupe. Right up my alley!

I've noticed that Chanel quads always seem to have some version of pink! Why do they do that? Although in all fairness, I have not tried a Chanel pink eyeshadow so maybe they won't make me look sick!

That's great that everyone is focusing on being healthier. I've put on a bit of weight over the past 6 months because I've been really stressed out and super busy with buying a house and all the crazy stuff that goes with that. I'm usually 120-125 lbs, but I'm short, so even 5 lbs extra can mean that my clothes don't fit anymore. And I can't afford to buy all new clothes, so I am definitely focusing on stepping up my workouts to get back to my normal weight. I've been too busy to workout, but I just have to find time!

It's totally true that makeup and all accessories (shoes, purses, jewelry, etc.) are the best when you are not in top shape. I haven't bought clothes in so long now though that I really need some new clothes!

Thanks, but I just can't stomach the scent of ysl lip products. I actually like a few of their colors and I owned one long ago, but I can't do it anymore.

And yeah, I don't know why they think they deserve a higher price than our Chanel.

Re: Chanel Discussion & Must Haves

Well, when I take the plunge I really dive in. LOL

Today I got Winter Nights and Les Folies Noires. I don't know how I missed the Noires quad last fall. I love the l/s from that collection and have 2 of the 3. I have been playing with the quad this afternoon and it is lovely as a liner and over GPS.

Winter Nights is lovely and I can picture this as my go to on work days when I want to look polished but not overly made up. I may go back for Kasaka Beige as well. I haven't decided.

BTW, I must have been on an e/s kick today because I also picked up MUFE #92 (purple) and #84 (bronze).
