Re: MAC Group Interview!!

Hey Ladies,
I have a group interview soon with mac and i was wondering what type of make-up to do. Would it be ok to do a mask or like a design?
I just dont know if it would be ok to be overlyy funky since it is a job interview. What about dress code? My recruiter said professional dress code, so could i wear tights, or would it have to be dress pants?

do you mean the look you will wear, or the look you will do on your model?

if you mean your own look, no. don't do a mask. wear a look you'd wear to any professional job interview, but nothing too simple. you want them to be able to see your makeup, but not SEE your makeup.

if you mean your models look, more than likely the person interviewing you will give you/your model a scenario and a specific look. trust me, you won't be doing a mask. besides, being able to do a mask doesn't show them your everyday makeup skills. you have to be able to show them that you can do a look that the average customer would ask for on an everyday basis, and a mask this is not.

as for your clothing, wear something that you'd wear if you already worked there. scope out what the artists wear. if you wanna wear tights, wear tights. if you wanna wear pants, wear pants. just make sure you're in all black, its trendy, clean, non-faded, and ironed. you don't have to wear a business suit or anything like that, but black pants and a trendy top or a cute dress with leggings and funky shoes will work. dress the part. dress like a MAC artist!

good luck!

Hey, Thanks so much for that, it makes obvious sense! lol.. i guess i was trying to think of ways to set my self apart. But i dont know if thats what they are looking for.

Did you have to do Face Charts during the group interview, an artist i know told me they did do that a while ago. Im not sure about now. I have been practicing on a few though.

Re: MAC Group Interview!!

You shouldn't have to do a facechart, but if you do, they won't take that into the job consideration. If they have you do one, its more to see how you communicate the look to the client, so they can replicate it at home. It actually takes a lot of practice to turn out a decent facechart, which you won't be expected to do right of the bat. It may be a regional thing tho cuz my region doesn't require them during an interview.

Re: Waiting for final (?) interview with MAC...how long did you wait?

This is happening to me now. I had my first interview last Friday (one week ago), and was told that the manager was waiting to get an email with paperwork (or something to that extent) from someone and that he would call me as soon as he go the email. He said he thought he would get it that day or the next, well. NO call. I decided to give him a week before following up, so I called today, and when I asked for him the sales person told me he'd just stepped away, and took my info and told me he'd call me right back. Nope.

What should I do? He seemed to be extremely interested in hiring me and getting me in as soon as possible (they have a big shortage of freelance artists there). But I don't want to keep calling and bugging him, but I don't want to just let it pass by.

Do I call him again? Do I go in to see him? Or do I just let it go?

Re: MAC interview decision

I know exactly what you mean! A week after I first freelanced with MAC I found out I was pregnant! I freelanced about 1x month last few months were about 2-3x month. I stopped freelancing about 2 weeks before having my baby. Then I came back to freelance about 3 months later

I had my interview today.

I'd turned in my resume at the mac counter two weeks ago and received a call two weeks later to inform me where my interview would take place. I arrived thirty minutes early and chatted with the other MAC hopefuls while we waited.

My interviewer asked started with basic questions about my retail experience and then went we went on about makeup. She asked me why I wanted to work for MAC and I told her about my product knowledge, explained why I loved the mantra and the viva glam cause. She asked what my favorite MAC product was, and when I responded Fix+ , she told me to try putting vanilla pigment in the spray to give a nice glow all over. At this point I felt like I was talking to a fellow makeup junkie/friend! lol

She gave me a scenario of being the only girl working at the counter and having two customers come in at the same time, one wants a b2m lipstick, the other needs to be matched for foundation and the phone is ringing. She then asked me what I'd do.

I took my cousin in as a model. She is very Kim Kardashian-ey lol she has olive skin, beautiful bone structure and perfect eyebrows that the trainer raved about. I was asked to do a light eye with "perfect skin and the perfect red lip." I took my own belt brush and brushes and I'm glad I did because they didn't provide us with many. I first filled in her eyebrows and used Studio sculpt foundation in NC40 over moisturizer, did concealer and set it with prep and prime loose powder. I put brule all over the lid over bare canvas paint and put cork in the crease with a light pink eye shadow blended into it just to warm it up and lined the eyes with engraved.

I used cork to contour the face (the products were verry limited.) and the highlighter provided in the eyebrow powder duos to highlight. I used light blush to balance with the red lip.

I'd only had the time to line and fill in the bottom lip with a red viva glam lipstick before my time was up. My model thankfully rubbed her lips together and it didn't look too bad. Unfortunately I didn't apply eyeliner to line her waterline or add mascara. The trainer didn't seem to notice the mascara part, I think it's because my model has curly long lashes.

She asked me to rate my look on a scale of 1 to 10 and gave me constructive critism, I agreed with her on what she told me and added my thoughts on what I could've done better or what I could have spent more time on.

She mentioned that she liked the skin and she liked how I didn't apply too much blush and kept it balanced. She mentioned that some do too much on the skin and they're looking for flawless but natural. She told me she felt I did a good job and that she thinks I will benefit from the formal training they offer to get even better because they "don't expect perfection before then".

Sorry this is sooo long but I'll be expecting a call by next week and I'm so excited!!

Re: I had my interview today.

Good luck. I am SO impressed at what it takes to work for MAC! Makes me wonder why anyone would ever leave as my MAC girl did at Nordstrom.

At any rate, I am sending up sparklers for you. You deserve it!

Sincerely,
