Re: Revlon Color Stay Foundation
I'm Chinese, in my mid-forties, with NC20-ish skin (predominantly yellow undertone with some redness on my cheeks, nose and chin) and I use Buff #140 in the Combination/Oily formula and found it to be an excellent color match. I also have fairly oily skin in my T-zone, large pores on my cheeks and some old scars and discoloration.
This foundation works wonderfully as both concealer and foundation and gives a natural skin-like finish. I've had flawless results applying it with either my fingers, a stippling/skunk brush or an artist squirrel mop brush, depending on my mood.
I think the key to achieving good coverage without the caked-on look with this foundation is a very light touch and to only apply as many layers on the blemish/flaw as you need to just cover it.
I first apply a light layer of foundation on my entire face and then to get complete coverage of my scars/redness/discoloration, I just stipple onto those areas another two light layers of foundation. I then set my foundation with some silica powder. The end result still looks like my own skin rather than a thick layer of skin-colored spackle sitting on top of my flaws.
What impresses me most about this foundation is the coverage and the transfer-resistance. I often wear this for more than 10 hours at a stretch, including working out for 2 hours (running, weights, dripping sweat from every pore), and I can attest to this foundation's lastingness. Truly.
As for removal, it comes off easily with a few drops of my grape seed and rice bran oil mixture which I then wash off with my face and body wash.
I have to admit, albeit reluctantly, that after being a mineral makeup devotee (I make my own MMU and have enough supplies to last me 10 years) for 3 years, I've never been able to achieve as good a coverage and as long-wearing a foundation as Revlon Colorstay's. In fact, Revlon Colorstay looks so much more natural and skin-like in finish than MMU which tends to look powdery if I try to layer it. I think MMU works best for those who don't need a lot of coverage and have few flaws to conceal. I'm now a Revlon Colorstay convert.
And for those of you who find Revlon Colorstay too pricey (rrp in Australia is about AU$37.95 and about AU$20 online), try Rimmel Lasting Finish 16Hr Mineral Enriched Foundation. It is an excellent dupe and at a fraction of the cost.
I use Rimmel Lasting Finish 16Hr Foundation in Ivory #100. It is just a touch darker than Revlon Colorstay's Buff when comparing swatches on a piece of white stock card but the difference is not noticeable when applied on my face. Performance-wise, they are comparable and I use them both interchangeably.
I hope this helps someone.
