I was on the phone to my boyf in NY as the results were coming through. His Mum was crying, his Dad cried, HE cried, making ME cry! Oh lawd!!

I didn't think I'd get so emotional. I saw McCain in a different light when he gave his speech after defeat. It was so humble and I was moved...its a shame the listening crowd couldn't have been more respectful towards the end of it..but anyway.

I'm so proud to have witnessed this moment in history! I've told my boyf to buy a copy of every newspaper in NY and I've done the same in London so we can show our kids in years to come.

^^^ I agree...I feel he showed a side that I wish had been shown throughout the entire process. I was truly humbled by his speech and remembered why I liked him so much before this election.

This prove to me that when you want something, you CAN do it.

Is it real?! Am I dreaming?! I woke up this morning and felt a jolt of fear; I was afraid it had all been in my head. Then I checked my phone and found Obama's text message waiting for me.

I cannot begin to describe the feeling that came over me; the joy, the relief. I laid in bed; cried and laughed and hugged my dog.

I so wish I could share this experience with my husband but he will be home soon enough.

Election Analysis - Love It!

Obama won on his own terms, strategically and symbolically. He rolled up a series of contested states, from Colorado to Virginia, long out of Democratic reach. And his victory reflected the accuracy of his vision of a reshaped country. Racism, much discussed, turned out to be a footnote, and African-American turnout was not unusually high. Instead, Obama drew his strength from an array of racially mixed, growing areas around cities like Orlando, Washington, Indianapolis, and Columbus on his way to at least 334 electoral votes.

You realize that if McCain won and everyone was saying 'We did it' in that way, all hell would break loose. Just saying. It's not about color, it's about what you believe in.

I really dont care that Obama won. I didnt vote for him because I disagree with him, but I do respect that he won and that he is my president. What I do care about is the bad winners I am encountering in real life. I've been called racist for my vote, I've been called a redneck farmer for my vote. Being called uneducated and stupid. I'm miserable at work right now because of things like this.

This is not the way to start out this presidency. If we're all Americans, we need to stick together, not belittle each other.

I wish him much luck.

I was so excited and overwhelmed watching the coverage last night. I couldn't help but think that the scenes of everyone in the streets cheering reminded me of movie. There was just so much emotion and excitement on the faces of everyone. There were tears running down my face.

I am so proud of America in general today. No matter which side won, this was a MONUMENTAL election and would have been a historic event. I don't think anyone can deny that this moment is historic for America.

Now, I hope and pray that Obama WILL deliver on his promises and be the change that America so desperately needs. I really believe he can do this. We're bordering on the start of something great here and only time will tell if we achieve it. But, I'm ready for it!!

my dh & i keep saying " finally... finally America grow up.. YES.. YES ".
other countries already have woman or minority leaders. USA is late but late is better than never. let's hope this is a new beginning for all us that everyone is equal. i know out there still some people can't accept an african american is a leader. but let's open our mind give him a chance that he can do it. i'm sure right now even though he is happy he is the 44th president but also he's nervous/worried. but we all will help him in the name of USA.
man, Dr Martin Luther King is so proud of Obama. finally Martin luther king's dream comes true.

this is an amazing date in history i must say. i am overwhelmed right now but yet happy to say a great man will get the nation back on track. what overwhelmed me beyond words was to see the different races, genders across the nation cheering and crying when the announcement was made. it does show that it was many nationalities that made this happen not just one race. People came together for change and made it happen!!! Please everyone be blessed and lets work on moving this country to great things!!

To TISH:

Oh, I'm fine with it... him winning. I just wish people were less... hostile winners where I live. They're starting fires and I'm confused by it all.

I've always accepted every president because he is MY president. All of a sudden, in this election, I'm a racist hick-farmer idiot (none of which are true... and we live in the same place, for goodness sake!) afterwards. I'm just seeing alot of hostility and it's really ruining his win.

Like I said, I didnt want him, but I'd really be ok with it if I wasn't being bombarded with nasty comments. (In real life.)

Kinda sours the whole 'history' thing for me if I have to remember it this way. You know?

I really don't think I've ever been as happy as I am today.
I was up crying all night, simply because I could not believe it actually happened.
For the first time in 8 years, I can finally say I'm PROUD to be an American.

I think all of Canada was happy that Obama won (though it doesn't affect us directly). Good for you guys, you had an amazing election. Very much unlike the pointless election we had here.

I wish Obama good luck and hope that he stays safe

While I fully respect your opinion, I have to ask do you not agree that this is a historic moment for America? I honestly feel you do not have to agree with his policies to see how people would feel the way they do about this.

And I am sorry that people you encounter are behaving quite ignorantly. But, these people, while they have voted for Obama, ARE NOT Obama. He made sure to run his race not based upon race and went out of his way to not include it. The media are the ones it turned it that way. Obama won b/c he reached out to all races and groups of people around the country. His presidency is starting out w/ that message. And hopefully, in time those Obama supporters who berated and belittle you will see that as well.

I am excited to see what the future holds for all of us.

I understand that...but I dont think you have had that from Members on this board...so why direct it back at a member for saying absolutely nothing belittling. Take it where it belongs...to the people who are saying the things to you...And I am not sure where you live and why people act the way they do...Also not sure why people are hostile...and it has nothing to do with race...Because the polls show that the majority of votes for Obama did not come from African American People.

No, no, I wasn't directing towards her! I was just kinda using it as a leeway to what I was experiencing in real life.

I guess it made sense in my head, not so much online. Sorry. I'm just kinda annoyed. I should be happy but people are ruining it for me.
