MAC for Marilyn

CAUTION Longggggg Rant Ahead: I have everything I want from this collection... so this complaint doesn't pertain to myself directly, but I DO get upset to see others disappointed. About 1 month ago I took my close friend to the local MAC counter. I helped her pick out a gloss, a couple lipsticks, and a blush. I bought her a new quad of MAC shadows and a gloss from the Vera collection this year for her birthday, and she had been begging me to take her and help her pick out some new goodies ever since. She's obviously new to MAC and has gotten excited about the brand! While we were there, I started chatting w the MUA's about this collection coming up. They, of course, knew VERY little about it and were happy to hear me give them the details. They asked us if we wanted to come to the weekend "Marilyn Monroe Makeover Event" they were having. My friend got so excited I immediately signed us up. They put us down for back to back appts Oct 5 (tomorrow) at 6pm. I knew the collection would launch in stores Oct 4th, but at that point had NO IDEA the insane hype that would ensue! I also didn't think we got our PRO discounts either at this point, so I was happy to get a slot and buy in the store. Today I was at the mall and happened to check in at the counter. Assuming that they MIGHT have held a few items for these appts they were taking. Almost EVERYTHING was SOLD OUT (as I imagined it would be). Nothing had been held. Now, here's where I get upset... They had NO plans to call and tell us! They were going to let us come in tomorrow evening thinking we were getting access to the new MM merchandise, and THEN "just sub perm products for the Marilyn items. They will be EXACTLY the same, just not the Marilyn packaging." That's honestly a quote. My response: "I am a PRO member and oftentimes have to inform you guys about products and launches when I visit here. Are you under the impression I'd set an appt to come to a Marilyn event and be happy to be told I could only purchase perm items?" BLANK FACES! I calmly let it go, cancelled our appts and left the store. Mildly frustrated but trying to be understaning considering they were more than likely unprepared for this collection... THEN my friend calls me ALL EXCITED!! "I just got a call from MAC to confirm our Marilyn Monroe Collection makeovers tomorrow! The lady told me the items were gorgeous and I can't wait to see them! This will be my first MAC haul with you!" Imagine my utter mortification! Not only did the girl call to CONFIRM after 6:30pm (LONGGGGG after everything had been SOLD OUT!) but she led my poor friend to believe they were still accessible and waiting for her the next day! I broke the news to her as sweetly as I could! And now my friend will be surprised with the MAC items I ordered for her during the Nordies launch that I purchased for her (KNOWING this would happen) as soon as they arrive! (1 LG, 1 CIS, 1 BP, and 1 TPC) The POINT: Imagine all the upset appts tomorrow (that these MUA's went out of their way to CONFIRM knowing FULL WELL they had nothing)!! Not even having the courtesy to tell their customers the truth!
The same thing happened here. Everything minus the liners was sold out in less than 10 min here, there is product for the event but I made an appointment over a month ago thinking I would use that opportunity to get my backups. I didn't know then how nuts it was or that they were not going to have ANYTHING for the event. I mean sure I could get a brush, wipes or fix plus but I am good on regular stock items right now. I am trying to get rid of foundation so it doesn't go bad. I just can't believe I am considering canceling because I love the MUA sooo much and it isn't her fault but for a change it is $50 for stuff I do not need or really want when I normally spend $250 to $300 with her. Would it be crappy to cancel?

NO. I would cancel and use the $50 for something you actually want later. Thats what I did when a MUA talked me into an event and then I changed my mind. I kept my Gift card and used it on a few MM goodies today.

What a day! I also managed to recruit my hubby in the Marilyn expedition. I gave him a list of all the stores and counters in the city, but had him start with my local one first. He was giving me the play by play via texts in the hour running up to opening. My 1st meeting finished early, and by then he had only been able to get an SI and a BP at the local counter, but had reserved another BP and CIS at the counter on the south side of town, about ten minutes from my office. So on my way to my next meeting downtown, I stop at the Downtown Bay counter, and all they have for l/s is PZ. So I get another BP for my sister-in-law, and keep it moving. After the second meeting, I make my way to the south to pick up CIS and BP. I decide to call another counter in the west, and lo and behold, they have LG, but no holds, you can purchase over the phone. I'm reciting my card number, and she stops me to tell me that they have several, so I can just come in later and buy them then. I tell her I'm not buying what she's selling me, and I need to back up LG. I finish the phone purchase, and head back to work for a teleconference meeting. Third meeting ends, and I'm not sure if it's all the meetings or Mission Marilyn, but I'm done in. Called it a day at work, and drove out west to get my LG backups. I come home to a high five from hubby. One thing I noticed, is that every counter I went to had no mobs, probably because they had little to sell (somehow, magically they started taking preorders sometime between yesterday afternoon and opening), and other than the last counter, Pure Zen was the only lipstick left on display, poor thing, lol! Now I'm sitting here thinking about how I could use that determination/drive in other areas of my life! Thanks for letting me share, and also for sharing your stories. I'm amazed to see Spectras paying it forward and helping their "virtual neighbours"! I hope that everyone gets what they are looking for.

I think the stores should have called the customers who made appointments, not to confirm their times, but to be honest with the situation at hand and give the customer the option TO still confirm and adhere to the appointment.

Yes, it sucks that the stores weren't prepared for the demand and that the items were sent in such small quantity, but I mean come onnn give the customers the option to still go to their appointments if they want to! Just be honest, and at least compensate customers for the inconvenience and for their time, especially if they still choose to go to the appointments.

I went to an event on Friday to pick up my presale items and get a little Marilyn makeover...

Everything that was sold out had a sticker on it, convenient I suppose.

I'm not a fan of what she did to my eyes but I love love love the BP & Love Goddess. The BP was used all over my face, I think I need to get a backup of it..

Today I tried the Deeply Adored lipstick & I love this one too.

Deeply Adored looks so rich and pretty on you, LENAMONSTER!

This thread is so long now that I am trying to catch up! To whomever was inquiring about the lipstick in color CHARRED RED I just wanted to confirm that is was a PRO color that has been discontinued. I am so glad that I had gotten it a few years ago. I remember when I first bought it I thought it was okay. Then I went through a period of time where I never wore it. I tried it on after a good long while in recent months and now I just LOVE it. It is so pretty. Funny how that happens. What I really like about it is that it is a more truer matte. I might be in the minority but I really do miss the old matte formula. These new mattes look more like satins. Charred Red deposits color a lot more smoothly than Smoked Purple. Smoked Purple is in a league all on its own. LOL!

Anyways, I did manage to get to my local Nordies early this morning. Was there by about 10:10 am and they had already sold out of all the lipsticks except Pure Zen and Scarlet Ibis. No Deeply Adored :( I high-tailed it down to the MAC store and was fortunately able to get it there. Out of curiosity I went around the corned down to Dillards and wasn't anybody at that counter except this guy. His lady friend must have sent him on an 'errand.' Hee-hee!

I am just so happy to get this shade. I had been lusting after both of the reds ever since we first got the official color story. Due to duplication, I decided against CIS, though.

I will officially try on Deeply Adored tomorrow. For the ladies who said that it was close to Runaway Red, you are right. They are very similar which I said I had hoped for. That is what always baffled me about people comparing Charmed I'm Sure to Runaway Red. Runaway Red is considerably darker. I believe Duckrodeo's swatches a few pages back shows this as well. Charmed would probably compare to last year's Such Flare which is indeed lighter than Runaway Red.

I also wanted to say sorry to the poor ladies who missed out on their items. What happened to you, PixieDancer, truly is wrong on so many levels. If that were me, I would be LIVID. MAC needs to get their act together regarding these much hyped collections. It wouldn't be 'cute' again for any of us to have to go through this all night cyber stalking and mad dashes to stores before they even open to get product!

That is all!

ETA: I forgot to mention that I did pick up YSL's GRENAT SATISFACTION! It is a nice deep red with a brown tint. The lipstick I have closest to it is NARS' Fire Down Below which is a little lighter and more, I don't know, orange-y if that makes sense. Still a nice color though. With this being my first YSL lipstick, I am quite pleased with the color pigmentation. I've had it on for a few hours now and it is nice that that the color hasn't settled too deeply in the lip lines. I also swatched Chanel's Holiday 2012 Lipstick L'Impatiente. Nice color, but the pigmentation isn't rich enough. I had swatced it on my hand and after an hour or so, you can tell how lighter it was getting. Can't believe that is a matte formula.

OK and let me know if your MAC store/counter has held TPC for you.

You have to share this story with MAC. Can you imagine this being your first experience and this happens??? We all know how to prepare and to be ready, but not everyone does. If my preoder goes through at NOrdies it is only b/c the guy I confirmed my order with knows me. What about the new random person who went after work, or like your friend is going to the event.

Off topic: I'm curious to know why you all who went to the store, didn't try calling the stores? Just curious. that's how I got mine. But to be honest, if I was driving, and not working I probably would've went to the store too. In the end I had to call 3 stores.

ETA, I mean do phone orders. I did have to give my credit card over the phone.

The whole idea of it being labeled a Marilyn event and then there is no Marilyn Products is really dirty and underhanded. People made these appointments assuming they would have acces to the products the event was themed around. Either the stores need to do the events before the actual release or name the Events something else........."You might have a chance or no chance in hell" would be better

I have never had luck calling any in town. Out of town, oh yes. I call other cities and place orders but customer service as a whole sucks here so it is pointless.

I did mousygiggles... cancel away! You aren't going to get the service with the products you made your appointment for. It isn't your MUA's fault, but that doesn't mean you should be stuck trying to "find" things to buy! It is perfectly acceptable and professional for you to cancel. Maybe that will get the MAC employees fired up enough to complain to the powers that be for sticking them with tons of angry customers w the low stock they sent! Sometimes doing what's right and setting an example and standard of service isn't easy... but a company like MAC and its employees will only learn if we don't placate this behavior.

I think I am. The more I think about it, the more it irks me. It almost makes me want to go with my own shizz from my online purchase and be all na na na, I still got it anyway. I know it is petty and childish but the attitude today was pretty offensive too. I mean I know they have rules, but why should I keep spending a car payment amount or more a month at their counter when I can do it online without the bs.

Wow, I just read through 10 pages! Time for my story. I preordered at Macy's a week or two ago with everything I wanted, but this morning I decided to go to Nordstroms *just incase* anything happened to my preorder. There were already 10 girls standing in line around 9:40 (the store opens at 10). I never seen anything like this before! By time time the door open, one of the MAC girls had a list and were taking people by how they were lined up. The girl that was number two in line tried to buy everything but the MAC girls only let everyone get 2 of each item. I was number 11, and they sold out of all the lippies (including Pure Zen!) by number four. I left and went to my Macy's and picked up my presale. To my suprise, they had one SI, DA and CIS left! I'm talking about Macy's Union Square, which is the flagship Macy's for the West Coast (aka biggest Macy's ever! Men's clothes, shoes, watches are all across the street in a separate building). I snagged them for my best friend even though she is not a collector, she can rock a red beautifully.

Does anyone NC25 have the Beauty Powder or tried it on? Mine is still brand new in the box and I don't want to swatch it incase I decide to sell or swap it to one of you guys! I see it's great for cool pale beauties, but I was wondering if 25 yellow undertones will look phenomenal with it as a highlighter. I rather it go to someone that will look stunning in then wear it just because it's Marilyn!

I don't think it's crappy of you at all to cancel! Especially if it's with a MUA you already know and love. I'm sure she would understand, and calling to cancel is certainly better than not showing up at all, or spending $50 on things you don't need (as much as someone can "need" makeup anyway!). You should ask her if they're going to do anything for the Glamour Daze collection, and tell her that if they are, you'd really like to book an appointment with her for that! Then it wouldn't be canceling the appointment so much as postponing it until a time when there are actual new and exciting products to buy.

I now know what qualities to look for in a mate. A man that will help me buy MAC! LOL I love the stories.

Looking at the price of the ebay auctions, I can see why it is tempting to scalp products. I'm way too lazy, and couldn't do it b/c of principle, but $275 for 5 lippies and I only paid $90 for?... That's a helluva return ~please don't kill me~ ~ducks~

Hi ladies.. long time lurker, occasional poster. Was first in line today to get everything I wanted from MM collection but am now kicking myself for not getting another FM beauty powder.. it does wonders for my NC 15 skin and I'm obsessed. Called every freestanding store and counter in my city (Edmonton, Canada) and they're sold out of course. (whomp, whomp) :eek:hboy:  if anyone has an extra they would be willing to part ways with PLEEAAASSEE let me know! Would pay for the shipping to canada of course. Thanks girls  :anyone:  :urock:
I'm happy you got one! After the craziness at the WEM event last week I didn't expect Edmonton to have anything left. Which store did you go to? What was it like this morning?

One of the MAs suggested calling/coming in tomorrow morning to see if something was available from the held items that people didn't end up picking up or purchasing.

So after about 15 pages I was able to catch up. There was insanity today at the stores, so my husband and I went to the store at about 9:50 because the manager told him to come in a little bit early we walked in thru a side door that was left open for employees only but the manager had told the security guard that it was ok for us to come in a bit early. Now mind you my husband had his military uniform on, we walked to the counter and I told the MUA what I wanted, while she got my stuff it was already 10:00 and the doors were open a big crowed of girls ran into to the counter and started yelling what they wanted the manager immediately told them to form a line behind me and my husband and OMG all hell broke loose they started fighting and arguing about should be in front of the line and pushing yelling and shoving started to happen at this point the MUA with my lipsticks comes out and some crazy chick tried to snatch the lipsticks out of her hands, so the MUA yelled and told the chick that it belonged to me and that she needed to get in line well this crazy chick started yelling that she didn't care if my husband was military or not that she should be the one to get the lipsticks because she got to the MUA first, my husband was annoyed so we just rushed and got our stuff. The more insane part is that the chick was really trying to fight for the lipsticks, mall security showed up right after I got my stuff and they escorted the crazy chick out of the mall with no makeup, the security guy said the she was banned from the mall. I never use my military status or my husbands to get ahead of anyone it just so happened that the manager wanted to be nice to me because my order was cancelled at the other Mac store but some people are just jerks I told that stupid chick that the reason why she even had the freedom to get anything was in part because of me and my husband both doing 3 separate tours each in Iraq ughgh some people are assholes! It's not that serious it's makeup there will be more collections. Anyways I did get 1 of all the lipsticks so all in all I'm happy.
